              Everyone Can Change the World

A friend wrote me a letter a few weeks ago. He felt hopeless at the time. He ended his letter with the question: “  (1)  ” I replied to him and started my own letter with these words: “Yes, we most certainly can!”

I can still remember someone who changed my world. She was the music teacher at my primary school.   (2)  . I really wanted to impress(给人印象)her. However, I did not know how to play any instruments.

One day, she let me try playing her guitar. I did my best, but could only stumble along. (断断续续地弹奏). When I was finished, I put my head down. “  (3)  ,” I told her. She looked at me with her kind eyes, smiled at me and said, “We are all good at something. You just need to find out what you are good at. Then, you can share it with the whole world.”

                (4)  . They planted a seed (种子)in my soul which continues to grow to this day. They made me realize that I had something good inside of me. I just had to find it and share it.

Can you change the world? Yes, you can! You can change it through one choice, one person and one kind act at a time. All you have to do is share your goodness. Mother Teresa once said, “God does not ask us to do great things, only small things with great love.”   (5)  .

              (1) A. I guess I am not very good

              B. So make your love great

              C. Those simple words changed me

              D. She was good at playing the guitar

              E. We can’t really change this crazy world we live in, can we?

              (2) A. I guess I am not very good

              B. So make your love great

              C. Those simple words changed me

              D. She was good at playing the guitar

              E. We can’t really change this crazy world we live in, can we?

              (3) A. I guess I am not very good

              B. So make your love great

              C. Those simple words changed me

              D. She was good at playing the guitar

              E. We can’t really change this crazy world we live in, can we?

              (4) A. I guess I am not very good

A problem is only a problem until there is a solution. We find solutions by thinking creatively.  (1)   In other words, we think outside the box. Sometimes thinking outside the box solves not just one, but two problems.

Amsterdam is one of the most crowded cities in Europe. As a result, housing is very expensive, especially for students.   (2)   However, finding this type of apartments was almost impossible until recently.

While the colleges in Amsterdam were trying to solve the housing problem, thousands of shipping containers (集装箱) were lying quietly in ports around the world. These huge steel containers carry products from one counry to another. The life of each container is about 10 years.   (3)   Yet they can’t recycle all of them because there are so many.

Back in Amsterdam, a company came up with an amazing idea. Why not reuse these shipping containers as student apartments?   (4)   They are all the same size and fit together perfectly. The steel is strong. Moreover, these containers are so widely available that they are quite cheap to buy. For all these reasons, they can be used to build apartments quickly andvcheaply. Building began in 2005, and after only a few weeks, hundreds of Amsterdam students had new homes.

When students hears about this idea, they thought the container apartment would be small, noisy and cold.   (5)   Each container apartment has a kitchen, a bedroom with a study area, and a bathroom. The apartments are warm and quiet. They even have a high-speed Internet connection. Living in a shipping container has become popular. Today, over 3000 Amsterdam students live in the container village.

              Encourage Exercises

It’s no secret that many students do not like to stay in classrooms and study all day. ( 1 ) : quite a lot of them don’t like outdoor PE classes either.
“Our three PE classes every week are all running, running and running. It’s for our High School

Entrance Examination (中考),said Li Liangjing, 15, a junior 3 student from Xiamen.

( 2 )Two month ago, the shanghai University of Sports made a survey from over 110,000 students and worked out teenager’s physical index(指数). For junior high school students, their physical health score is 94.1, which is quite good. But this doesn’t mean they are active in sports, because their awareness (意识) and willingness (意愿) to do physical exercises only scores at 74.8.  ( 3 ) , reported the Paper News.
Because of that, the Shanghai Education Committee decided to put more importance on the general physical quotient (体商) of teenagers. This means that schools should pay attention to not only students’ health and sports test scores, but also their knowledge, skills and willingness to do exercises. Therefore, making PE classes more fun and growing students’ interests in sports seems necessary, according to the deputy director (副主任) of the Shanghai Education Committee, Wang Ping.  ( 4 )  , such as throwing the handkerchief (手绢) and the eagle and the chickens. They also teach students different sports like tennis, swimming and martial art (武术).
“ ( 5 ) , which can be good for all their lives,” said Wang. And experts (专家) from the Shanghai University of Sport are planning to introduce the idea to more provinces.
