               Most people want to be happy, but few know how to find happiness. Money and success alone do not bring lasting happiness. Aristotle, a Greek thinker, said, "Happiness depends upon ourselves." In other words, we make our own happiness. Here are a few suggestions to help you be happier.

                 The first secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life. Too often, we spend too much dine thinking about the future-for example, getting into college or getting a good job—that we fail to enjoy the present. You should enjoy life's simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your favorite music, or spending time with close friends. People who have several close friends often live happier and healthier lives.

                 Another secret to living a happy life is to be active. Many people go dancing or play sports. People can forget about their problems and only think about the activities.

                 Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. Studies show that people feel good when they spend their time helping others. If you want to feel happier, do good things for someone. You can help a friend with his or her studies, go shopping to buy food for an elderly person, or simply help out around the house by washing the dishes.

               Every 30 seconds there is an earthquake. But don't worry because most are so weak that they cannot be felt. Only a few big ones hurt people. Many earthquakes happened in China, such as the big one in Sichuan. Thousands of people died in it. So it's important to know what to do when one hits. Here are some tips on how to stay safe in an earthquake.

                 a. If you are indoors during an earthquake, hide under a desk. Stay away from windows and anything that could fall on you.

                 b. If you are outdoors, move to a clear place. Try to be away from trees, signs, buildings and streetlights. These could fall on you.

                 c. If you are in a shop and far from the door, don't try to run outside and rush for exits (出口). Everyone will be doing that and you'll find it hard getting out. Don't get into a lift during an earthquake. Just hide under some strong cover near you.

                 d. When an earthquake has ended, be careful because aftershocks may still happen. These are just as dangerous as the earthquake itself. So stay under the desk until you make sure it's safe to get up.

                 e. If you are at home and you smell gas (煤气), open the windows and get out of the building as quickly as you can. A gas line in your house may be broken. This could be very dangerous.

              Homework is a big part of going to school. Unluckily, homework has to be done, outside class--during the time when you would rather be doing something else, for example, you prefer going to a birthday party to copying out a whole Chinese text. Luckily, there are several things you can do to make homework less work.

                 First, be sure you understand the task. Write it down in your notebook if you need to, and don't be afraid to ask questions about your task. If you want, you can also ask how long the special homework task should take to finish, so you can budget your time.

                 Second, go over your lessons before you start your homework. Many students think they don't have enough time to finish their homework. So they begin to do it at once without reviewing their lessons, In fact, they will have to spend more time looking up now and then when they do their homework.

                 Third, use any small pieces of time you have in school to work on your homework. The more work you can get done in school means the less you'll have to do that night..

                 What if you don't have time in school to get homework done? You'll need to think about how much homework you have for a given night and what else is going on that day, and then budget your time. Most high school students have between 1 and 3 hours of homework a night. If it's a heavy homework day, you'll need to spend more time on homework. It's a good idea to come up with some kind of homework timetable, especially when you want to enjoy sports or other activities.

              Do you want to be healthy? What can you do to be healthy? Let me tell you.

                 Play sports every day. Sports can make you get active(活跃的) and healthy. Running, swimming and playing soccer or basketball are all good sports.

                 Eat fruit and vegetables every day. They are all healthy food. Don’t eat too much junk food every day. It is not good for your health. At the same time, drink enough water every day.

                 Get enough sleep. You must sleep for eight or nine hours a day. It is healthy for you. Never go to bed too late. And remember to get up early the next morning. Then you can have a good day at school.

                 Make many friends at school. Friends can help you and make you happy. When you are happy, you are healthy, too.

                 It is easy to be healthy. And if you do these above, you can make it.

              I’m living in a busy city. There are too many people and too many cars. Too many people and too many cars cause too crowded traffics. At the same time, the cars gives out much smog (烟雾), especially (尤其是) at rush hours (高峰期). The smog pollutes (污染) the city terribly. The problem is becoming more and more serious. We should do something to prevent it.

              First, I think we should have more police officers at the busy crossings. They can stop the traffic jams (阻塞). Second, we should not make more parking garages (停车位) for cars. When people think that it’s easy to park in cities, more people will drive to work and it will make the traffic more crowded. Third, we should make it more expensive for drivers to drive cars to cities. Then more people will leave their cars for their bikes. Fourth, we should encourage          people to take a bus to work. For example, we can build more underground lines. Of course, we can also do many other things to improve our traffic.

From 1871 to 1903, Jack met every boat in the area and showed them the way. In1903 apassenger(乘客) on a boat with the name “The Penguin” shot and hurt Jack. Luckily the dolphin didn’t die, and after a long time he was well again. He helped the ships find the way through the area for nine more years, but he didn’t help the boat “The Penguin”.

              Today, some people still kill dolphins, but many countries in the world now protect them. In these places, people mustn’t kill them.

              Students in Junior One had a great time on the school trip on Childrenˈs Day. They went to Blue Water Aquarium by bus. The teachers were very happy because the students cleaned the buses after the trip.

                  Sixteen visitors from America arrived at our school on June 3rd,Saturday. And they have visited a few places of interest in Beijing.

              Football World

                 Hereˈs good news for football fans! The FIFA World Cup 2006 will be held in Germany from June 9th to July 9th. Many football matches on TV are waiting for you.

              School Concert

              Thereˈll be a concert in our school on June 30th. Some students will show their talents by singing, dancing and playing the piano at the music hall.

              Hello, I’m Peter. I’m a reporter(记者)of a TV station. I go to Long Green School this Monday afternoon. I want to know how they like their school. How do they study? What do they usually do at home?

              There are 56 students in Class 6, Grade 7. Thirty of them are boys. Most of the boys like playing basketball, football and table tennis. Some girls like swimming and tennis.

              It is interesting that some students are good at their subjects but they don’t like sports. Some students like sports but they don’t like studying. The short boys don’t like taking exercise. Exercise is good for health, so I think they shouldstick todoing exercise.

              Most students do their homework first at home. After that they watch TV. About half of them don’t clean the rooms or wash clothes.

              I’m not happy about the result(结果). I think children should help their parents clean the house or wash clothes at home.

                A newspaper said that Dr. Miller measured the blood flow (血流) of 20 healthy people before and after they watched two different movies-Stwing hivate Ryan(a war movie) and Kingpin(a comedy). The results were opposite. He found that their blood flowdecreasedduring the war movie and increased during the comedy. As we know, exercise can make blood flow increase. Dr. Miller pointed out that laughter might be almost as healthy as exercise.

                 Dr. Wei Jiang of Duke University studied over l,000 heart failure patients. He discovered that those who often felt sad had a 44% higher risk of death. In other words, being happy is good for our heart and helps us live longer.

                 The studies show that laughter is important for us to keep healthy. And it is free and has no bad effect. Many doctors today encourage patients to laugh. Some hospitals even have comedy rooms with TV comedy channels. And they believe the best way to live a long, happy and healthy life is to have a good diet, exercise regularly and add in a few laughs every day.
