Mary Donaldson is worried about her 16-year-old daughter. Sophia. Six months ago, Sophia came back from a party, upset and unhappy. From then on，(1)she thinks of nothing but how to lose weight and become beautiful. She refuses to eat and keeps on doing exercise. (A)Sophia had always been a little heavy, so when he decided to go on a diet, Mary encouraged her. (2)She felt that her daughter would look more attractive if she loses 10 kilograms. However, Sophia has lost over 20 kilograms until now. Her eating and exercising habits are having a harmful effect on her health. She is too thin and is often sick.

Her mother is trying to prevent her from going on a diet and losing weight, but Sophia thinks that she is still too heavy and refuses to start eating as usual. Sophia's mind is full of the idea of looking like a model. (B)Every day she goes to a club to do exercise. When she is not there, she spends her time reading magazines like Fashion & Beauty (《时尚与美》). The models in these magazines are very thin and beautiful. Sophia says. "If I look like these models, I will be happy."

(C)Mary doesn't know how to help (3)her daughter. She feels sorry for having encouraged her at first, because Sophia no longer feels good or pleased with her body. Plant trees with Felix

Felix, a 14-year-old German boy, is not famous as a child actor but an environment hero. The club has an aim of planting 212 million trees. They have planted over 3.5 million trees all around the world. Felix said, “The answer to controlling global(全球的) warming is trees—lots of trees!”

You can see kangaroos everywhere in Australia．They appear on TV, in books and, in the shops．The government even plans to put them on passports．[103]Although it's the best loved animal in Australia, millions of kangaroos are killed every year．Why, people ask, do the Australians kill them? Quite simple, there are too many of them．

The number of kangaroos in Australia is believed to be 20—25 million．It is larger than the number of people living in the country．

There are several reasons for the growth in the number of kangaroos．There is plenty of water in the places where kangaroos live and many of the dingoes (澳洲野狗) that like to kill and eat kangaroos are not there anymore．

Kangaroos also produce (产生) the young all the year round．When a female (雌的) kangaroo gives birth , she then gets pregnant (怀孕) again immediately．The large number of kangaroos means some kangaroos don't get food to eat．They are so hungry that they break into farms and fight against other animals for food．

[104]To solve the problem, the Australian government allows a certain number of kangaroos to be killed each year．

Many people don't think that it's right to kill kangaroos but the government thinks that it is only to help the farmers．Australia sells 5 million kilos of kangaroo meat every year—it is used to make hamburgers for dogs．
