Parents are the closest people to you in the world. They love you just because you’re you. And they would do anything for you.
Like a lot of middle school students, Zhang Li has a problem. She and her parents don’t get on well. “I really want to be my daddy’s good girl. But it seems he just doesn’t understand. He talks to me but doesn’t listen to me,” said Zhang Li, a student from Grade Three.
Do you and your parents also have problems?Well, why don’t you take a walk and have a walk on Saturday? May 15 is International Day of families(国际家庭日). On that day, people around the world give thanks for good things about families and work on family problems.

They weren’t happy at home. Of course, lots of other children feel that way. But you and your parents will be much happier if you can be friends. Here are some ways to have a good talk with your parents: find a good time to talk, like when you’re eating dinner, going out for a walk or watching TV. Tell them something you’re interested in, or ask them about their lives when they were young. They love to talk about that! Listen to them carefully, and look at them in the eyes. Anger is a kind of feeling. Many things can make you angry. When your teacher gives you too much homework, when your team loses an important game, when a friend borrows your favorite thing and then breaks it, you may get really angry.

Usually, your body will tell you when you are angry. For example, you breathe(呼吸)faster, your face turns red, and you may want to break something or hit(打) someone, but sometimes, you hide(隐藏) your anger. For example, you may hide it in your heart. The problem is that if you do this, you may get a headache or your stomach may hurt.

In fact, it’s not good to hide your anger, and it’s normal for you to get angry sometimes. But anger must be let out in the right way, without hurting others or yourself.

When you get angry, you can talk about it with other people. My father woke me up early one summer morning when I was fourteen and said, “Get up, youˈre going with me to cut the grass in the garden.”

The idea that my father thought I was old enough to help him in his business made me feel proud and excited. From sunrise to sunset, my father, my younger brother and I worked in the large garden, in a rich part of Atlanta, Georgia. At the end of the day, I was too tired to say a word, but I felt good. This was my first time to help my father in his business. I got $ 6 for my work that day.

One day my father found some leaves I missed and pulled me aside. “Take away these leaves!” he said seriously, “and donˈt make me have to tell you to do it again.” The message was clear. Today I value(珍视)the importance of doing a job well the first time. It will never fail to impress(给……留下印象)the person who you are working for.

After two years, my father told me and my brother that he felt we were old enough to cut the grass by ourselves. Every Saturday during our last two years of high school, we set off early in the morning with the same strong wish we got while working under our father.

Looking after the garden was not exciting, but that didnˈt matter. It taught me that any job was a good job and that what I was paid was more than I had before.

A newspaper reporter once asked me how someone could possibly live with hard work and low pay. “If youˈre only thinking about hard work and money, you probably donˈt want to do any better than you are doing.” I answered. In every job, from cutting the grass to washing dishes, Iˈve learned much. Iˈve learned something that helps me in my next job.

If you work hard enough, you can learn from any job you do.

As students, you may have many dreams. They can be very big like becoming Superman, or they can be small. You may just want to become one of the ten best students in your class.

If you find a dream, what do you do with it? Do you ever try to make your dream come true?    Follow Your Heart by Australian writer Andrew Matthews tells us that making our dreams come true is life’s biggest challenge.

“You may think you’re not very good at some school subjects, or that it is impossible for you to become a star. These ideas stop you from realizing your dream,” the book says.

Every day at lunch time, Samuel would go out of his shop and sat out of the restaurant’s kitchen. Then he ate his only food — the black bread, when enjoying the wonderful smell coming from the kitchen.
