              Dear Teens,

①Do you wonder why some kids can stay calm while others get nervous so easily? Why do some kids do everything very quickly while others are verysluggish? Why are some kids always happy while some feel upset all times?

②One of the answers to these questions is personality(个性). People were born with different personalities. A baby gets its blood type, genes(基因) and other physical things when it is still inside its mother. These factors(因素) make part of your personality. Besides, family life, school learning and life experiences can also decide what kind of person you are. You may not like your personality. Don’t worry. You can always try to change it and make yourself better.

③If you are a selfish person who always thinks of yourself, you can start this way. Try to give others a hand and ask for nothing in return. The happiness you get from giving instead of receiving will help you change your personality.

④If you are very shy and don’t know how to make friends, just tell yourself to smile at others and start talking to others with warm greetings. You are sure to have more friends than you used to do.

⑤If you are a sluggish person who always does things slowly, you’d better make a plan every day. When you finish something, draw a happy face. If not, draw a crying one. No one would like to see a crying face and you will have the desire to change it into a smiling one.

⑥All in all, don’t get too worried about your shortcomings(缺点). No one is perfect. That’s why many people are trying to change. Don’t give yourself a hard time about it all. It’s not easy to change the habits overnight. Remember “ Rome is not built in a day”. Keep working at it. One day you’ll see that you can turn over a new leaf and be a new person.

Studies show that laughter(欢笑) is good for our health and may even be the best medicine.

A newspaper said that Dr. Miller measured the blood flow (血流) of 20 healthy people before and after they watched two different movies-Stwing hivate Ryan(a war movie) and Kingpin(a comedy). The results were opposite. He found that their blood flowdecreasedduring the war movie and increased during the comedy. As we know, exercise can make blood flow increase. Dr. Miller pointed out that laughter might be almost as healthy as exercise.

Dr. Wei Jiang of Duke University studied over l,000 heart failure patients. He discovered that those who often felt sad had a 44% higher risk of death. In other words, being happy is good for our heart and helps us live longer.

The studies show that laughter is important for us to keep healthy. And it is free and has no bad effect. Many doctors today encourage patients to laugh. Some hospitals even have comedy rooms with TV comedy channels. And they believe the best way to live a long, happy and healthy life is to have a good diet, exercise regularly and add in a few laughs every day.

Hi, Grandma! Here I am in Paris. Jenny and I arrived by plane the day before yesterday. Aunt Joan and Uncle Pete met us at the airport. We were tired so we relaxed at home and started our visit of the city yesterday.

Yesterday we went to the Louvre Museum. It has many world-famous paintings, like the Mona Lisa. In the evening we had dinner in a French restaurant. The food was delicious!

This morning we took a walk. There are shops and restaurants everywhere, and I love the street markets. They sell very good fruit and vegetables. We also did some shopping. I bought a gift for you. I hope you'll like it!

At about three o'clock, we took the Paris subway to the Eiffel Tower. It is really high. There were lots of visitors, so at first, we had to wait(等待) for an hour, and then we went to the top(顶部). We stayed there for a long time, and then all the lights(灯)were on. It was beautiful!

On Sunday we're going to a famous palace by train and take a boat trip on the River Seine. I'll write again.

                                                                                                                                                                                   Love,

                                                                                                                                                                                   Betty
