Once my mother told me a story. In Africa, when an antelope(羚羊)wakes every morning, the first thing it thinks about is, “I must be able to run faster than the fastest lion, or I’ll be killed.” At the same time, a lion wakes from his dream. The first thing the lion thinks about is, “I must be able to catch the slowest antelope, or I’ll starve(饥饿) to death.” So almost the same time, the antelope and the lion get up and start running toward the rising sun.

This is life: full of chances and challenges. Whether you are an antelope or a lion, you must go ahead when the sun rises. For students, it is just the same. If we do not study hard, sooner or later, we will fall behind the other students. At first, I didn’t know what the word “exam” meant. Later, I knew an exam was a kind of competition. In competitions, there are always winners and losers. As I grew up, I got to know competition well. In one’s life, there must be competitions, so people can improve.

Each time I saw children playing games, and heard their laughter, I wished I were that age again, However, I remembered my parents’ words: “You must work very hard in order to have a good future.” So I picked up my pen and began to study hard again.

I was still not sure what competition really meant. One day, I was taking part in an English-speaking competition. When I went to the stage, I saw other students looking at me kindly, I suddenly knew what competition was. It is not as cruel as my teacher and my parents told me. In fact, competition is the opposite: it is kind and necessary.

I learned a lot from realizing this fact. Now I understand more about the world. Competition is important for us all.

            • 3. This Thanksgiving Day, a new wonderful Disney cartoon, Moana was on in China. It tells a story of a princess(公主), Moana, who has a sailing(航海) trip to save her people.
Her father didn’t agree her trip, but with her grandmother’s help, she decided to start it. She only has two partners, a cock named HanHan and a pig called Pangpang. First, Moana looked for the super hero, Maui, because he stole(偷) the goddess(女神), Te Fiti’s heart. Because of this, the goddess was angry and became a devil(恶魔), which covered the world with black clouds and fire. After Moana found Maui, she boated with him to the open sea and had a difficult experience to give the heart back to Te Fiti. Te Fiti became normal and brought everything back to peace. Moana then returned to her homeland, where everything was back to life and the villagers began their normal life. Moana took her father’s place to be a new leader.

We can learn a lot from the movie. We should be thankful to the earth. If we always get everything from it without stopping, we will be punished(惩罚). We should face our mistakes like Maui and find the true ones for ourselves like Moano.

Mary loved small animals. One morning while she was walking in the forest, she found two weak birds in the grass. She took them home and put them in a small cage. She looked after them with love and the birds both grew well. They thanked her with a wonderful song every morning.

But something happened one day. The larger bird flew out of the cage. She thought that it would fly away, so she grasped (抓紧) it quickly. She was very excited to catch it. Suddenly she felt strange. She opened her hand and found the bird was dead. Her great love killed the bird!

The other bird was moving back and forth in the cage. Mary could feel the bird wanted to go out. It wanted to fly into the blue sky. At once, Mary took the bird out of the cage and let it fly away. Mary enjoyed watching the bird flying and singing. It sang the sweetest song that she had ever heard.

The easiest way to lose love is to hold it tight. The best way to keep love is to give it freedom.

Long ago, in a small village of Wakefield lived two farmers, Harry and Peter. Harry was very hard-working while Peter was lazy. Every day Harry got up early and came home late, but Peter walked around for fun.

One summer there was no rain and the crops were dying. Harry thought“I must do something to save these crops, or they shall die.” With this problem in mind, he went out to find a river so that he could dig a canal to his field. He walked on and on, feeling tired and thirsty. After a long search, he found a river full of water. He was very happy. He started digging a canal to his field. Until it was noon his wife sent their daughter to bring Harry home for lunch. But Harry did not go. He did not want to leave his work unfinished. He completed his work late at night. He was very satisfied. He went home, had a good meal and fell into a sound sleep.

Peter did the same. But he was not at all determined. He also started digging a canal to his field but he didn’t have his work completed. His field did not get enough water and all his crops died.

Harry’s field would be watered when it was needed. He had a good harvest because of his hard work. So dear friends, please remember that hard work is the key to success.

One year, a college in the United States announced that it would offer a lot of money for the pure white marigold(金盏花). The high reward attracted so many people, but in the nature, besides golden, the marigold is brown, andit is not easy to get the white one. So after they were excited for a time, many people had forgotten the announcement.

One day after 20 years, the college received a letter and 100 seeds(种子) of pure white marigold. It turned out to be an old woman of over 70 years old. Some scientists in the college doubted it, but it was surprising that those seeds finally took root(根) in the earth. The miracle(奇迹)appeared after one year, the field was covered by pure white marigold.

So the old woman who was always unknown to the public became a new focus(焦点).

The old woman was a flower-lover. When she read the announcement 20 years ago, she got very excited like others. But her eight children were against her decision. After all, a woman who never knew the seed genetics(遗传学) couldn’t complete the job that scientists could never do, so her thought was only a daydream.

Still, the old woman didn’t change her mind and went on working. She planted some of the most common seeds and took good care of them. A year later, when the marigold came out, she chose the faintest (最暗淡的) one from those golden and brown flowers and got the best seed. The next year, she again grew them and chose…. Day after day, year after year, through many seasons, the old woman’s husband died, her children flew far, a lot of things happened in her life, but only the wish to grow the pure white marigold took root in her heart.

Finally, after 20 years on the day we all know, in the garden she saw a marigold, which was not nearly white, but as white as silver or snow.

A problem even scientists couldn’t deal with was solved by an old woman who didn’t understand genetics. Was it magic?

To take root in the heart, even the most common seed, can grow into a miracle!
