Feeling left out?

A reader wrote in to say that she was feeling lonely at break because her best friend wasn’t around. Here’s our advice to her, and to all kids who feel lonely sometimes.

It’s hard when a best friend isn’t around. Maybe because she moved to a different school or a different class. You may feel lonely at break or lunchtime. You want to have new friends. but how do you make them? Maybe it seems like everybody else already has their friends. But remember, there’s always room for more friends.

Start by looking around your classroom. Think about which kids you’d like to play with at break. Look for time to say hi to them, smile, and be friendly. Offer to share something or express your appreciation(欣赏)to them. Invite someone to play with you or say “Do you want to sit here?” in the lunchroom. When you’re at break, walk over to kids you want to play with. act friendly, and say “Hi，can l play, too?” or just join in. If you have trouble doing this or if you’re feeling shy, ask your teacher to help you make new friends. Teachers are usually pretty good at matching up friends. The best way to make friends is to be a friend. Be kind and friendly. Share and offer to help. Pretty soon, you’ll have one or two, even more new friends.

You might still miss that special best friend. But when you see each other, you can share something you didn’t have before she left. You can introduce her to your new friends.

Cars are very popular in America. When the kids are fourteen years old, they dream of having their own   (1)  Many students work after school to   (2)   a car. Spy

Many years ago, carrier pigeons were used to help our country during wars (战争)．“Spy pigeons” had small cameras that were tied to their feet． As a pigeon flew over enemy (敌人)land, the camera took photos of the land below． This would allow our soldiers to see where the enemies were and what they were doing．

So next time you see a pigeon, stop and watch it closely． What might look like an ordinary bird to most people, might actually be helpful．

The human brain weighs about 1.4 kilograms, but it can hold much more information

than most computers. However, there is another difference between human brains and computers. Computers don’t forget information they are given, but humans often do.

No one remembers everything and luckily we don’t usually have to. But everyone can improve their memory if they want to.Here are some suggestions.    

·        Try to use new information immediately. For example, if you meet someone who says “Hi! I’m Carlos.”, don’t just say “ Hello.”. Repeat the person’s name and say“______”.

·        Break a big number into small parts. For example, it’s hard to memorize 109244153.But if you break it into three parts—109/244/153, it will become easier.

·        Write down what you need to remember over and over again. This will help you keep it in mind longer, especially when memorizing formulas(公式)or facts.

·        Always review information. If you bring what you’ve learned back to your mind, it will become easier to remember. For example, before you go to sleep, it’s a good idea to review the new things you’ve learned that day.

·        Discuss with friends. It’s always easier to remember things through discussions. You can have a discussion about what’s right or wrong, it will lead to the right answer.

·        Never tell yourself that you have a bad memory.You can always do something to help improve your memory. And everyone’s memory will get better if they use it often.

 All of the suggestions are helpful. If you follow them, you are certain to improve your memory.

As we all know, the former(前任的) Chinese leaders were interested in playing sports, such as ping-pong, basketball and football. So is President Xi Jinping.

  Xi was a sports lover and he used to playing football very much. And now he is also one of the football fans in China. He thinks we should not only care about the national team, but also pay much more to the training of the young players. So he visited Europe this year, he especially watched China-Germany(德国) youth football match. Although the team lost the game in the end, he still encouraged the young players to train harder and give up. He told them that they would be the keys to China’s football.

  Our life is just China’s football. As Xi once said in Shanghai,“China’s football dream looks far away but we cannot stop. You might make your dreams one day only if you keep dreaming.” So there is no excuse for us to give up our dreams, and we must try our best to realize them.
