Scientists are trying to make robots to do many things -- play music, work in hospitals. But can they run a restaurant? There are two robot receptionists (接待员) and six robot waitresses and waiters in the Dalu Robot Restaurant in Jinan, Shandong. One hundred customers (顾客) can be in the restaurant at a time. Two of the robots serve drinks. The other four serve the food. The robots only do some of the work in the restaurant. There are also people working there, especially (尤其) in the kitchen. The cooks are humans because the robots don't have the skills (技能) to cook.

"Make - A - Wish" is one of the world's most well - known charities (慈善机构). It makes wishes come true for children who have serious illnesses. It gives them hope and joy and helps them forget about their health problems and have fun.

It all started in 1980 in Phoenix, Arizona. Christopher was a 7 - year - old boy who was very sick. He always dreamed of becoming a police officer. Tommy Austin and Ron Cox, two police officers, made his wish come true. They gave Christopher a tour of the city in a police helicopter (直升机) and made a real police uniform (制服) for him.

There are four kinds of wishes children usually have:

I wish to go. Children usually want to travel or go to a concert, a game or a park.

I wish to meet. Children sometimes want to meet their favorite actors, singers or players.

I wish to be. Some children wish to become actors, singers or police officers.

I wish to have. They often want to have a computer, a game, a bike or many other things.

Let's hope more wishes will come true in the future. People who work in the charity always try for the best. Almost 25,000 volunteers help, work or give money. Will you be one of them?

What time of day can you think most quickly? Are you a morning person? Or does it take you a few hours to get your brain(大脑)going? A lot of recent research suggests that we should pay attention to our body clock. It can tell us what time of day we can perform best at.

Many people work best later in the morning. This is because the body’s temperature rises quickly. But everyone’s body clock is different and some are special. Morning people will get up early and work better early in the day. Evening people will work later but work better towards the end of the day.

Research shows that we’re better at some activities at certain times of the day. Physical performance(体能)is at its best between 3 pm and 6 pm, so it’s better to exercise later in the day.

Between noon and 4 pm, people begin to pay less attention. This is because we think less quickly ager a big meal. Research also shows we become sleepy around 2 pm. This is why people in Spain take a short sleep in early afternoon.

Finally, it is better to eat when we’re active. This allows our body to burn calories(卡路里)better and stops our blood sugar levels(血糖)from getting too high.

You have often looked into a mirror, of course. But you haven't seen the real picture of your face yet. And why couldn't you see it? When you look into a mirror, you don't see your face as other people see it. You see a reversed picture. If you close your left eye, your picture closes its right eye. If you touch your right ear with your right hand, your picture touches its left ear with its left hand.

If you have two small mirrors, you can see your faces as your friends see it. You hold the two mirrors at right angles (角度) to each other and look into them. After some practice you will be able to see the real picture of your face.

Now close your left eye and your picture closes its left eye too. Touch your right ear with your right hand and your picture touches it s right ear with its right hand! This happens because each mirror reflected (反射) the picture in the other mirror. So you see a reversed picture of a reversed picture, which, of course, is the same as the real picture.

                                          Warm air needs more room

As its temperature rises, air starts to act a little differently. Find out what happens to a balloon(气球) when the air inside it heats up with this fun science experiment for kids.

              What you will need.

              ●An empty bottle

              ● A balloon

              ● A pot of hot water (not boiling)

              Instructions

(1)Stretch(伸展) the balloon over the mouth of the empty bottle.
(2)Put the bottle in the pot of hot water. Let it stand for a few minutes and watch what happens.

              What is happening?

As the air inside the balloon heats up, it starts to expand. The molecules(分子) begin to move faster and further apart form each other. This is what makes the balloon stretch. There is still the same amount of air inside the balloon and the bottle. It has just expanded as it heats up. Warm air therefore takes up more space than the same amount of cold air. It also weighs less than cold air occupying (占据) the same space. You might have seen this principle(原理) in action if you’ve flown in or watched a hot air balloon.

Choose the right answer according to the passage.

Do you know 3-D printing? It is very new and is developing fast all over the world. With its help, people can print real world things with a 3-D printer. People believe it will have a very great future. 3-D printers seem to be able to make many things in just a short time.

However, 3-D printing is still a little expensive for everyday use, but we believe we will have personal 3-D printers in the near future.

Many people are dreaming even bigger, and it seems that if you can imagine it, you can 3-D print it. If not now, then will be soon. Look, some people already have exciting imaginations!

Some toy companies are working on helping kids imagine their toys and then printing them. And there are already 3-D printed candies! A company inChinaeven built 10 houses in Shanghai in one day with a large 3-D printer. Are they the most comfortable homes? No. But they could help the homeless people a lot. These houses didn’t cost much (each house cost about $5,000). It’s a cheap and very environmentally (环保的) friendly way to build houses.

Climbing Mount Everest (珠穆朗玛峰), the worlds highest mountain, just becomes more difficult. The government of Nepal is telling climbers they cannot leave litter on the mountain. Each climber will have to come down the mountain with at least 18 pounds of litter. That’s the average (平均的) amount of litter a climber leaves behind on Everest.

Officials say climbers should pick up their own litter.“We are not asking climbers to pick up litter left by someone else,” said Maddhu, who works for the government of Nepal. “We just want them to bring back what they take up.”

Leaving litter along the way helps climbers keep their bags light so they have energy to reach the top of Mount Everest. “The litter problem on Mount Everest is not new,” Maddhu says. “When people started to climb the mountain, they started to leave their litter there.”

The new rule started in April 2014. To make sure it is followed, climbers will have to pay a sum of money before they climb. Once they climb back down the mountain, officials will check to make sure they have the required 18 pounds of litter. If they do, their money will be returned to them. If they do not, climbers will not receive their money and they will not be allowed to climb Everest next time.

The purpose is to make sure no more litter will be left on Everest. “As we offer Mount Everest to all the people of the world, they should keep it clean,” Maddhu says. “After seeing the results from this, we will use this rule for other mountains.”

North American black bears are shy animals. They are fearful by nature, and will usually run away if they see or hear people. Because of this, it can be difficult for scientists to learn about these animals.

In order to study black bears, researchers from New Jersey, USA, catch bears and use drugs to help them go to sleep. Researchers then work out the size and the weight of the bear, take blood to test for diseases, remove a tooth and take it to the lab to find out its age. From these studies, researchers want to find out how many bears live in New Jersey, how long they live, and how many babies they produce.

But in Minnesota, USA, researchers study bears that are completely awake. The bears know the researchers' voices and they aren't afraid of the research team. With the help of a few grapes to keep the bears busy, researchers can touch them to check their hearts, look at their teeth, and do other jobs. Researchers can also walk or sit with bears for hours and make videos to learn about their everyday lives.

In both places, the main purpose is the same--to make sure there is a healthy population of black bears. But the research ways and the kinds of information that researchers are able to collect are quite different.

Waste can be seen everywhere in the school. Some  (1)  ask for more food than they can eat , some students don’t  (2)  to turn off the water taps after they finish washing, and others often forget to turn off the  (3)  when they leave the classroom. They say these things are cheap,  (4)  I don’t agree with them.Waste can bring a lot of problems. Though China is rich in some resources (资源), we are  (5)  of others. It is reported that we will have no coal or oil to  (6)   in 100 years. So if we go on wasting our resources,  (7)  can we use in the future and where can we move? Think about it. I think we  (8)  say no to the students who waste things every day.  (9)  should stop wasting as soon as possible. If we do our best, waste can be stopped  (10)  and many natural resources can be saved.
