Scientists believe that music influences the way people behave. They think that the sound of western classical music makes people feel richer. When a restaurant plays classical music, people spend more money on food and drinks. When the restaurant plays modern music, people spend less money. Without music, people spend even less. Scientists also believe that loud, fast music makes people eat faster. Some restaurants play fast music during their busy hours. This makes people eat faster and leave quickly. Restaurants can make more money in this way.
Some scientists think that music makes you think and learn better. They say that music helps students to be more active. It is true that people learn better when they are relaxed. And listening to music can help you relax.
The next time you hear music somewhere, be careful. It might influence the way you do things.根据短文内容,选择正确答案。

A man once had a dream(梦) about the Black Forest(森林)in Germany. In his dream he was walking in the forest when two men ran out and tried to throw him to the ground. He ran off as fast as he could, but they followed him. He reached a place, there he saw two roads in front of him, one road to the right and the other to the left. Which road should he take? He heard the two men behind him, getting nearer, and at the same time he heard a voice in his ear. It told him to go to the right, and he did so. He ran on and soon came to a small hotel. He was received(受到招待)there kindly and given a room, and he was saved from the two men. That was the dream.

Twenty years later he was really in the Black Forest and , as happened in the dream long ago, two men ran out and tried to throw him down. He ran off, and came to a place with two roads, like in the dreams. He remembered the dream and took the road to the right. He soon reached a small hotel , was taken in, and so was safe. His dream of twenty years before had saved his life.

Tom and Steve are twin(双胞胎的)brothers. But they have different hobbies. Tom loves to play sports and basketball is his favorite. But Steve loves to read books.

One day, Tom was playing basketball with his classmates at school when he fell and broke his leg. When they took Tom to the hospital, the doctor said he wouldn't be able to play sports for half a year. Steve went to see Tom and brought him some books on basketball. At first, Tom wasn't going to read them because he thought they were not inter esting at all. But he felt really so bored at the hospital that he began to read them. To his surprise, he found that there were ways to teach him how to play basketball better. He began to think that books were not too boring but even helpful(有帮助的)for him.

When Tom's leg started getting better, Steve helped him by going for walks with him. Finally, Tom's doctor said he could start playing basketball again. Then Tom showed Steve how to shout(投篮). Steve found that he also enjoyed it.

Then Tom was ready to join in the basketball games. Steve went to watch the games and enjoyed himself. They then always practiced playing basketball and read books together.

So you can see, when something bad happens, something good may also happen. Steve showed Tom about books and Tom showed Steve about basketball. So you can also try showing others something that you like to do and they can show you something that they like to do. In this way, you can find new things to do.

Most people want to be happy, but few know how to find happiness. Money and success alone do not bring lasting happiness.Aristotle,a Greek thinker, said,"Happiness depends upon ourselves." In other words, we make our own happiness. Here are a few suggestions to help you be happier.

The first secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life. Too often,we spend so much time thinking about the future-for example, getting into college or getting a good job-that we fail to enjoy the present. You should enjoy life's simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your favorite music, or spending time with close friends. People who have several close friends often live happier and healthier lives.

Another secret to living a happy life is to be active, and have hobbies where you forget your problems and time. Many people experience this dancing, or playing a sport, such as swimming. You can forget about your problems, and only think about the activity.

Finally, many people find happiness in helping others.Studies show that people feel good when they spend their time helping others. If you want to feel happier,do good things for someone. You can help a friend with his or her studies,go shopping to buy food for an elderly person,or simply help out around the house by washing the dishes.

Then he said, “This watch will be a reminder(提醒物) for you. I hope today you have learned something 28              .”

I learned a lesson from my father: to respect(尊重) time and 29              be late. The watch is important to me, not because of its   30              , but because of the lesson that I learned from it.

How often do you let other people’s rude actions change your mood*? Do you let a bad driver or an impolite waiter make your day in a mess? We were driving fast in the right lane* when suddenly, a black car jumpedout ofa parking space right to front of us.   (3)   taxi d river stepped on the brake* as hard as possible, and at thelastmoment our car   (4)   just one inch from the back of the other car.

I couldn’t   (5)   what happened next. The driver of the car turned his head around and startedshoutingbad  (6)  . But then here’s what really   (7)   me. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. I said, “  (8)   did you just do that? This guy nearlykilledus!” He told me what I now remember “The Law of the Garbage* Truck.”

He said, “Likegarbage trucks, many people run around full of garbage, full of anger, and full of regret.Astheir garbage increases more and more, they  (9)   a place to pour it. They’ll pour it on you  (10)   you let them. So when someone wants to pour it on you, don’t feel hurt. Just smile, wave, and move on. You will be   (11)   .”

I started thinking: how   (12)   do I let Garbage Trucks run right over me? And how often do I take their garbage and   (13)   it to other people? Then I knew clearly what I should do.

I began to see Garbage Trucks. I see the   (14)   moodpeople are carrying. I see them coming to pour it. And   (15)  my taxi driver, I don’t feel hurt. I just smile, wave, and move on.

My mother used to ask me what I thought was the most important part of the body.

When I was younger, I thought sound was very important to us, so I said, “My   (1)  , Mummy.” She said, “No. Many people are deaf.”

Several years   (2)   before she asked me again. This time I told her, “Mummy,   (3)   is very important to everybody, so it must be our eyes.”

“You are learning fast, but the answer is not   (4)   because there are many people   (5)  are blind,” said Mum.

Over the years, Mother asked me a couple more times. Her   (6)   was always, “No. But you are getting smarter every year, my child.”

Then last year, my grandpa died.   (7)   was crying. Even my father cried.

Mum looked at me when it was our turn to say our final   (8)   to Grandpa.

She asked me, “Do you know the most important body part yet, my dear?” I was   (9)   that she would ask me this now. I always thought this was a game   (10)   her and me.

She went on to tell me, “Today is the day you need to learn this important   (11)  .”

She looked down at me. I saw her eyes well up with   (12)  . She said, “My dear, the most important body part is your   (13)  .” I asked, “Is it because it holds up my head?”

She replied, “No, it is because it can hold the head of a friend or a loved one when they   (14)  . Everybody needs a shoulder to cry on sometime in their life.”

Then and there I knew the most important body part is not a   (15)   one. It is one sympathetic to the pain of others.
