(1).My mother told me a good friend is like a mirror.(2)我比大多数的孩子更安静、更认真。That's why I like reading books and I study harder in class. My best friend Yuan Li is quiet, too, so we enjoy study together.(3).I am shy so it's not easy for me to make friends. But I think friends are like books—you don't need a lot of them as long as they are good.

It's not necessary to be the same.(4).我最好的朋友拉里与我不相同。He is taller and more outgoing than me. We both like sports, but he plays tennis better, so he always wins.(5).However, Larry helps to bring out the best in me. So I'm getting better at tennis. Larry is much less hard-working, though. I always get better grades than he does, so maybe I should help him more.

When we got to my Dad’s home,we found Dad still coughed a lot,but his smile was as sure as ever. He was sick. My husband and I stayed with him for the weekend,we had to return to our jobs on Monday. But I wanted to let him know that we also cared about him, even when we weren’t with him.

Then I remembered when our children were small. Before leaving their grandparents’ home after a visit, each child would write a love note to their grandparents. For days, their grandparents would smile as they read these notes of love.

So when I cleaned Dad’s kitchen and made the bed for him, I wrote some notes. Some were like this,“Dad,I put the food in the fridge.”  Some were like this,“Dad,I hope you will sleep well in your new bed.” Most notes were put downstairs he would stay for several weeks when he was. But I put one note upstairs under his pillow(枕头), “If you have found this note, you must be feeling better. We are so glad!”

These notes helped improve his health. A few weeks later, I asked Dad how he was doing on the phone. He said, “Much better. I just found your note under my pillow upstairs!”

Hi, my name is Tom and there’s something I’d like to share with you ...

My 16-year-old son, Dylan, told everyone that one of the most amazing experiences of his life was the trip to South Africa last summer. Most people would think that he was on a vacation there. But Dylan spent almost the whole ten days of his trip building houses for people there. It was hard and dirty work. I never thought that he would enjoy it, but he loved every minute of it.

Encouraging (鼓励) teenagers to do volunteer work is one of the most important things you can do for them as a parent. And the amazing thing is, once they get a taste of it, teenagers will love to volunteer. And students who do volunteer work do better in school than those who don’t volunteer. In fact, volunteering provides many things for teenagers, including a wonderful experience and a good chance (机会) to meet new people.

对于青少年而言,找一份志愿者工作并不难。They can find them in hospitals, libraries, children’s museums and so on.
