When you are learning English, you find it not clever to put an English sentence, word for word, into your own language. Take the sentence“How do you do? ” as an example, if you look up each word in the dictionary, once at a time, what is your translation（翻译）? It must be a wrong sentence in your own language.

If the speaker puts words in a wrong order, the listener can’t understand the speaker’s sentence easily. Not long ago, the Middle East’s first 3-D pavement(路面) art festival started in Dubai and caught many people’s eyes.

     The 3-D pavement art festival was an important part of the Dubai Canvas Festival. The Dubai Canvas Festival celebrates art and culture with different themes each year. During the festival, top international 3-D artists used chalk or paint to create their 3-D artworks on the pavement. Many of the artworks showed eye-watching pictures of Dubai. Take a chalking drawing by US artist Kurt Wenner for example. In his artwork, people could see a boy sitting on a traditional fishing boat with other children around, Dubai’s famous high-rise buildings were in the background. The 3-D drawing was so vivid that many visitors liked to sit on it and take photos.

    The organizers(组织者) of the art festival said they hoped to turn Dubai into an open-air art museum and make everyone enjoy the fun and beauty of art.

In Singapore,many middle school students spend a lot of time on their studies. People think good schooling is a ticket to success in their future. So,many of these students try their best to get good marks in their exams. They have a lot of homework every day and exams are usually difficult. Sometimes,some of them have to go to remedial classes after school.

There are many after school activities：sports and games,music and dance,hiking and rockclimbing,etc. They are also very happy to do community service (社区服务).

In their free time,most students like to listen to pop music. Hollywood blockbusters (好莱坞大片),Hong Kong and Singapore movies are very popular among them. Some of them also spend their free time surfing the Internet,emailing their friends and playing computer games.

They sometimes go to cafes,fast food restaurants,shopping centers and big bookstores.
