Hello, I’m Peter. I’m a reporter(记者)of a TV station. I go to Long Green School this Monday afternoon. I want to know how they like their school. How do they study? What do they usually do at home?

There are 56 students in Class 6, Grade 7. Thirty of them are boys. Most of the boys like playing basketball, football and table tennis. Some girls like swimming and tennis.

It is interesting that some students are good at their subjects but they don’t like sports. Some students like sports but they don’t like studying. The short boys don’t like taking exercise. Exercise is good for health, so I think they shouldstick todoing exercise.

Most students do their homework first at home. After that they watch TV. About half of them don’t clean the rooms or wash clothes.

I’m not happy about the result(结果). I think children should help their parents clean the house or wash clothes at home.

Here is a report on the International Student Handbook from the Voice of America(VOA).

The International Student Handbook explains the higher education system and how to apply to schools. It explains the different costs and the kinds of helps to foreign students. The handbook also gives information about admission tests(入学考试).

The International Student Handbook costs about $30 if you buy it online. Or, for $12, you can read it and print out a copy. The online handbook also includes links to more information.

We have explained the American higher education system and government rules for coming to the United States. We have also talked about admission tests, the costs of an education.

Some of our reports have been based on questions from our listeners. We welcome questions, and are happy to see all the interest in our programs. But please understand that we can only answer some of the questions. We cannot tell you how to get into the school of your choice or what you should study to be prepared.

All we can do is to suggest that students who are interested in a school should carefully read its Web site or printed materials. Then send an e-mail or letter to the admissions office with any questions you have. There may also be a special office for international students.

Are you a panda lover? Do these lovely black-and-white animals make you happy? If so, you’re not the only one. Tens of thousands of Americans and tourists from around the world go to the National Zoo in Washington D.C., just to see the cute pandas.

On August 23,2013, the mother panda Mei Xiang gave birth to a baby panda named Bao Bao. The name was chosen after more than 120,000 people voted(投票) online. Ever since Bao Bao was born, the panda house has become the most visited place in the National Zoo. On public holidays, there are always long lines of visitors. Local media (媒体) never gets tired of reporting Bao Bao.

The National Zoo set up a Panda Cam, allowing fans to watch Bao Bao’s real-time activities on the zoo’s website. The Panda Cam went down a few times because of heavy online traffic. When the Panda Cam is working well, people can clearly see when the panda is sleeping, playing, being fed by a zoo keeper, or even having a checkup! To protect Bao Bao lives separately from her mom.

American media pays great attention to this Chinese national treasure in cities like Atlanta, Memphis, San Diego and Washington, where twelve pandas live. If you travel to the capital of the USA, you can’t miss the panda souvenirs. From toys to postcards, from coffee cups to key chains, there are panda pictures on all of them.

Dogs can be good friends for humans. Or they can even help blind people. But have you heard of these animals competing in dog shows?

Well, the US just held the 140th annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City. This is the second oldest sporting event in the US. This year’s Best in Show was C.J., a German shorthaired pointer(短毛猎狗). He won against over 2,700 other dogs.

But what goes into preparing for this show? First, a dog must be 100 percent one kind of breed(品种)to compete. Dogs need good training to do well. And they need to be successful at other important dog shows, too.

On the day of show, people look after the dogs very carefully. They brush the dog’s hair and make their hairstyles look perfect. Judges (裁判) are looking at everything: how they act, their fur and many small things.

To compete at dog shows like this, they should spend around $50,000 (about 330,000 yuan) to $100,000 a year. That goes to trainers, travel and taking care of the dog. So why do people do it?

Some do it to help teach people about dog breeds, while others do it to make money. But they must have a love of their furry friends. Or they wouldn’t spend that much time and money on them.

A taxi hit a truck. A policeman spoke to the taxi driver and to the truck driver. He also spoke to Tom. He was a witness (目击者). This is what they said.

TRUCK DRIVER: I was driving from the airport to Newton. A car crossed the road, so I slowed down. I did not stop. A taxi hit the back of my truck. Nobody was seriously hurt but both cars were damaged(受损害).

TAXI DRIVER: I was driving behind a truck a few kilometers from Newton. The truck stopped suddenly. The driver did not give me a warning (警告). I was driving very slowly. I could not pass the truck because there were two cars coming near from Newton. My taxi hit the truck, and some glass cut my left hand.

TOM: I was watching the traffic about a kilometer from the airport. A truck was going to Newton It was not going very quickly. There was a taxi about two hundred meters behind the truck. It was going fast. When the truck slowed down, the taxi hit it. The taxi driver was not looking at the truck. He was looking out of the window at something. My friend saw the accident, too.

Tom's friend spoke to the policeman and agreed with Tom.

“Make-A-Wish” is one of the world’s most famous charities (慈善机构). It makes wishes (愿望) come true for children who is badly ill. It gives them hope and joy and helps them forget about their health problems and have fun.

It all started in 1980 in Phoenix, Arizona. Christopher was a 7-year-old boy. He was very sick. He always dreamed of becoming a police officer. Tommy Austin and Ron Cox, two police officers, make his wish come true. They gave Christopher a tour of the city in a police helicopter (直升飞机) and made a real police uniform (制服) for him.

There are four kinds of wishes children usually have:

I wish to go. Children usually want to travel or go to a concert, a game or a park.

I wish to meet. Children sometimes want to meet their favourite actors, singers or players.

I wish to be. Some children wish to become actors, singers or police officers.

I wish to have. They often want to have a computer, a game, a bike or many other things.

Let’s hope more wishes will come true in the future. People who work in the charity always try for the best. Almost 25,000 volunteers help, work or give money. Will you be one of them?

The number of American students who learned a foreign language reduced by (减少了) about 100.000 between 2009 and 2013. For many , taking a class in economics(经济学) might seem more useful than a French course.

Which languages will control the future? It depends on where you are and what you want to do in the future. Do you want to make money? These will be your languages. A report listed more than 20 growing markets and their languages, such as languages spoken in the so-called BRIC countries-Brazil. Russia India and China. And Hindi, Bengali(孟加拉语), Urdu and Indonesian (印尼语), will control much of the business world by 2050. If you want to get the most money from your language course, studying one of the languages listed above is probably a safe choice.

Do you want to speak to as many people as possible? How about Chinese. Spanish or French?

1, Chinese. Although Chinese has three times more native speakers than English. it's still not wildly used over the world. And Chinese is difficult to read and write.

2, Spanish. Spanish doesn't have so many native speakers, but it is very popular as a second language and it is taught in school around the world.

3, French. French is not so popular in Europe now. However. in West Africa, there are lots of people speaking French, and it is good to help West Africa develop.
