              Zhang Shiyuan, 13, from Shanghai

I think robots will replace(代替) accountants(会计). Most accountants deal with numbers at big companies(公司). They must work very carefully. Even a small mistake can cause a big problem. Sometimes, people may get tired and make mistakes. But robots won’t. Using robots means there will be fewer problems.

              Luo Xiaoqi, 13, from Beijing

Someday, robots will replace shopping assistants(售货员). Robots use computers and they’re good at arithmetic(算术). The robots assistants calculate(计算) more accurately and more quickly than human assistants. The robot assistants have no feelings. Whatever the people buy, they will always behave(表现) well. The robot assistants can make shopping more enjoyable.

              Zhang Yifei, 14, from Guangzhou

I believe the robots are going to replace the workers in the manufacturing industry (制造业). Most workers in a factory do heavy work over and over again. Robots will work on it better and faster than people. I know some factories are already using robots, but I think they will replace humans in the future.

If you take a picture of the sun every day, always at the same hour and from the same place, will the sun appear in the same place in the sky? A very fine picture, compiled (编纂) by Petricca from Italy, proves the answer is no.

“The earthˈs 23. 50 tilt (倾斜) and its slightly oval orbit (椭圆形的轨道)make this shape ˈ8ˈ pattern(图案), where the sun will appear at the same time throughout the year, ” said Petricca.

This pattern is called an analemma(日行迹8字形轨迹). It is interesting to notice that analemmas seen from different earth Latitudes (纬度) have a little different shapes, as well as analernmas created at different times of the day. Also, analemrnas on the other planets have different shapes.

If the earth were not tilted, and if its orbit around the sun were a perfect circle. the sun would appear in the same place in the sky throughout the year. But then, we also wouldnˈt have seasonal change !

In this picture, Petricca combined(结合)32 pictures of the sun taken at 12: 00 am local time throughout the months and seasons. “I was lucky to have the last year with good sunny skies at the right times, even if some months were really difficult to take photos, ” he explained. “The background view is the one from the first picture, January 4th, 2015, after three days of snow.”

Janina Mattausch is a product marketing manager for Netatmo.
"The common security(安全) cameras at present are not that smart. So,they can tell you if something is moving but they don't necessarily know if it's a human being or,ah,if it's your kids--they don't know the difference,so they will warn you all the time."
When family members enter a home, the new camera"recognizes"(识别) them and sends information to the owner's smartphone. The owner can choose to see the video then or later.ut if an unknown person enters a home, the camera will send the owner a warning that will cause an alarm to sound on the owner's smartphone.
That is what happened recently to a smart home camera owner named Darrmen. He lives in Paris.
"On a Friday I was at work, atending a big monthly meeting when my phone warned. At first I told myself'Oh,it must be a mistake, maybe I have to set the system again.'-but the notice on my phone was telling me that there was a movement in my flat and also a face that the software did not recognize."
He watched the video and was very surprised by what he saw."I saw a person I did not know with his shoes on.I was watching it live on video. So I felt totaly unbelievable, frozen.I asked a workmate to take me back home as fast as possible and I called the police on the way."With the help of the video, the police found the intruder(闯入者) later that day.

There are many wetlands in China and some of them have become internationally important wetlands. The Chinese Yellow Sea Wetlands are one example. They are in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province. They are the ideal home for many different kinds of birds and animals. The world’s largest Milu Deer Nature Reserve(麋鹿自然保护区) is there. More than 700 milu deer live freely there. There are not many red-crowned cranes(丹顶鹤) in the world, but every winter you can see some in the Red-Crowned Cranes Nature Reserve in the Yellow Sea Wetlands.

The temperature in the wetlands is usually not too high or too low. There is a lot of rain and sunshine, too. They are really good places for wildlife. They offer food and home for some special kinds of animals and birds. It is not the only reason why we need to protect wetlands. Wetlands are important because they also prevent floods. But some people want to change the wetlands to make space for farms and buildings. This means there will be less and less space for wildlife.

Luckily, more and more people are beginning to realize the importance of wetlands and wildlife. Every year on February 2nd, the World Wetlands Day, many activities are held to tell people more about wetlands.

Most people around the world are right-handed. This also seems to be true in history. In 1799, scientists studied works of art made at different times from 1,500 B.C. to the 1950s. Most of the people shown in these works are right-handed, so the scientists guessed that right-handedness has always been common through history. Today, only about 10% to 15% of the world’s population is left-handed.

Why are there more right-handed people than left-handed ones? Scientists now know that a person’s two hands each have their own jobs. For most people, the left hand is used to find things or hold things. The right hand is used to work with things. This is because of the different work of the two sides of the brain. The right side of the brain, which makes a person’s hands and eyes work together, controls the left hand. The left-side of the brain, which controls the right hand, is the centre for thinking and doing problems. These findings show that more artists should be left-handed, and studies have found that left-handedness is twice as common among artists as among people in other jobs.

No one really knows what makes a person become left-handed instead of right-handed. Scientists have found that almost 40% of the people become left-handed because their main brain is damaged when they are born. However, this doesn’t happen to everyone, so scientists guess there must be another reason why people become left-handed. One idea is that people usually get right-handed from their parents. If a person does not receive the gene (基因) for right-handedness, he/she may become either right-handed or left-handed according to the chance and the people they work or live with.

Though right-handedness is more common than left-handedness, people no longer think left-handed people are strange or unusual. A long time ago, left-handed children were made to use their right hands like other children, but today they don’t have to.

With the development of technology, WiFi is becoming more and more popular and important in people’s daily life. But have you ever experienced it? Just imagine what life will be like if there is no Internet.Maybe you won’t be able to talk with friends, play video games or search for information for your homework on the Internet. But in fact, only one third of the world’s population are able to get information on the Internet.The rest are too poor to buy WiFi access(使用    权) or they live in remote areas.As a result, they live without the Internet.

Google and Facebook, two world-famous technology companies, have decided to do something about it.Google’s Project Loon will try to send balloons which are 15 meters wide into our Earth’s stratosphere(平流层) in 2015.The balloons are made of a special material that is three times thicker than the plastic bag we use every day. Each balloon will carry a minicomputer and a WiFi radio. The WiFi radio will send the Internet over the areas it is floating over. Then people can get up-to-date information on weather or news.

Getting electricity has always been a problem for the 173 people living in Nuevo Saposoa, a small village inPeru,South America. However, things went from bad to worse in March 2015 after heavy rains damaged(毁坏) the only power cables in the area. The villagers were forced to use oil lamps(灯), which are not only expensive but also dangerous because of the harmful gases they produce.

Luckily, researchers at the University of Technology (UT) in Lima,Peru heard about their problem and found a wonderful solution. They made a lamp that can be powered by plants and soil, both of which can be easily found in the Amazonian rainforest where the village lies. The lamp takes energy from a plant growing in a wooden box and uses it to light up an LED light bulb.

While that may sound amazing and even impossible, the science behind the idea is quite simple. As plants create their food (using the sun’s energy, water and chemicals from the soil), they also produce waste which they return to the soil. Tiny animals in the soil eat this waste and they produce electrons – the building blocks of electrical energy. The UT team put special sticks inside the soil to capture the energy and keep it in the lamp’s batteries for later use. The researchers say a single charge can power a 50-watt Led light for two hours - enough time for local villagers to get their evening work done.

The university gave ten Plant Lamps to the villagers of Nuevo Saposoa in October 2015. So far, they have been a huge success! Elmer Ramirez, the UT professor who invented the lamp, believes the Plant Lamp could help improve the lives of many people, especially small rainforest commu nities, 42% of whom have no electricity.

Perhaps he made sounds like those he heard all round him----water splashing(飞溅), bees humming(嗡嗡作响声), a stone falling to the ground. Somehow he learned to make words. As the centuries went by, he made more and more new words. This is what we mean by language.
People living in different countries made different kinds of words. Today there are about fifteen hundred different languages in the world. Each contains four or five hundred thousand words. But we do not need all these. Only a few thousand words are used in everyday life.
The words you know are called your vocabulary. You should try to make your vocabulary bigger. Read as many books as you can. There are plenty of books written in easy language. Your dictionary is your most useful book.

When you’re not at home, many worries may start to crowd your mind. Did I switch the coffee maker off? Did I lock the door? Are the kids doing their homework or watching television? With a smart home, you can quiet all of these worries.

A smart home is a home with a communication network. This network connects devices, such as lights and TV sets, and allows them to be controlled from far away through electrical wiring, mobile phone communication or WiFi over the Internet.More and more people may start to consider owning a smart home, because it makes life much more convenient. It can help keep your room at a certain temperature. It can record what happens inside the home and send the video to your phone. When you are on vacation abroad, you can use a smart home controller to switch on or off the electricity when necessary. Some smart homes can receive a visitor, allowing him to come in and offering him a drink. They can even feed the cat and water the plants.
Besides, smart homes are easy to fix. Most smart home technology and devices are wireless and can be set up with a minimum of tools, using only the guiding information. When a problem appears, you can deal with it yourself without paying a professional.
However, for home-users, the smart home technology is far from perfect. It can be rather expensive to own the technology and the devices. Also, because the smart home system allow its owner to get home information from anywhere, it leaves the home easy to be attacked by hackers, who may secretly use or change the information in the system.
Now, many scientists are excited at the future of smart home technology. Imagine being able to get fashion advice from your mirror, or receive food shopping suggestions from your refrigerator. While there are others who worry that those smart devices will make people lazier and lonelier. Whatever it is, one thing is for sure—smart home technology will change the way we live and work.

“Mars Orbit Express” is a space probe (探测器). It was sent towards Mars by American scientists on August 12th,2005. Its tasks are to study Mars’ atmosphere and return photos to Earth. But before that “Mars Orbit Express” must travel about 100 hundred million kilometers and seven months. It reached Mars’ orbit(轨道)in March,2006.
Mars and Earth have similar weight and size. However,Mars is closer to the sun than Earth. Mars is very cold. The average temperature is below 50℃. The temperature at noon only reaches 20℃ during a Mars day. Its atmosphere is mostly CO2. It has much sand and two moons---Phobos and Deimos.
Scientists think Earth and Mars had similar beginnings 4.6 billion years ago. But while Earth supports millions of lives,Mars becomes bad. “Earth easily could have turned out like that.” said an scientist, “It is important for us to find out why and Mars Orbit Express’ should do that.” “Mars Orbit Express” also would help scientists to learn what might happen to Earth in the future.  “Mars Orbit Express” would work for about four years.
