And we both enjoy   (6)   . On weekends, we often go to the library to do some reading. But the other friend of mine, Lin Ying, is   (7)   different from me. She is much more outgoing, and she likes   (8)   and often makes me laugh. She also likes   (9)  , so she is more athletic. I don’t think differences are important in a   (10)  . There was a football game on our school football field last week. We played    (1)     a team from a country school. They didn’t come  (2)     the last minute. They looked worse than we thought. They were wearing    (3)    clothes and looked like farm boys. We were sure we must be the     (4)   because we were always the best.

We found in    (5)    that they did much better than us after the game began. They    (6)    their best and they always played as a team. But we didn’t. Finally, we     (7)    the game and we all felt unhappy.

We thought much   (8)    the game. We’re too proud (骄傲). We’re good players, but we can’t   (9)  win. For us, the most important     (10)    is: One can’t judge (判断) a person only by his clothes. We’ll never forget the game!

There was once a king who offered a prize to the artist who would paint the best picture of peace,Many artists    (1)  .The king looked at all the pictures. But there were only two he really liked, and he had to choose    (2)   them.

There was a calm lake in one picture. The lake was a perfect mirror and peaceful towering(高大的)mountains were all around it.Overhead was a blue    (3)   with light white clouds All who saw this picture thought that it was a perfect picture of peace.

The other picture had mountains, too. But they were bare(光秃秃的)and had rough rocks.

Above was a(n)   (4)   sky,from which rain    (5)   and in which lightning flashed.Down the side of the mountain a waterfall fell quickly. This did not look peaceful    (6)   .

But when the king looked    (7)   ,he saw behind the waterfall a tiny bush     (8)   ina crack (裂缝)in the rock.In the bush a mother bird had built her nest. There,in the middle of the rush of angry water, sat the mother bird on her nest—in perfect peace.

Which picture do you think won the prize? The king chose the second picture.Do you know   (9)  ?

‘‘Because,’’explained the king,‘‘peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble,or hard work,Peace    (10)  to be in the middle of all those things and still be calm in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace.”

An elderly builder was ready to retire. He told his boss that he wanted to leave the house-building business and live a more leisure life with his  56 and enjoy his big family. Although he needed to retire, he would miss the pay that it could deal with the life  57 .

The boss was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one  58   house as a personal favor. The builder said yes,but at that time it was easy to see  59  he was not careful. It was an unfortunate way to end a devoted career(忠诚的事业).

60  the builder finished his work, his boss came to inspect the house. Then he  61 the front-door key to the builder and said,“This is your house... my gift to you.”

The builder was  62 !What a shame(羞愧)!If he had only known he was building his  63   house, he would have done it all so differently.

So it is with us. We build our lives, a day at a time, often putting  64  than our best into the building. Then, with a shock,we realize we have to live in the  65  we have built. If we could do it over, we would do it much differently.

Life is a do-it-yourself project. Your attitude and the choices you made today help build the "house" you will live in tomorrow. Therefore, build wisely!

The first time I remember noticing the crossing guard was when he waved to me as I drove my son to school. He    (1)  me with a puzzle—all because he waved to me like someone does on seeing a close friend. There was a big,    (2)  smile on his face. For the next few days I tried to  (3)  his face to see if I knew him. I didn’t. Perhaps he had    (4)  me for someone else. By the time I was quite sure that he and I were strangers, we were greeting each other warmly every morning like old friends.

Then one day I found out the truth. As I drove near to the school he was standing in the middle of the road  (5)  his stop sign, I was in line behind four cars. After the kids had reached the safety of the sidewalk, he lowered his sign and let the cars through. To the first car he waved and smiled in just the same way he had done to me over the last few days. The kids already had the window down and were happily waving their reply. The second car got the same  (6)  from the crossing guard, and the driver, a businessman, gave a short wave back. Each of the following car of kidson their way to school responded heartily.

Every morning I continued to watch the man with  (7)   . So far I haven’t seen anyone  (8)  to wave back. I find it interesting that one person can make such a(n)    (9)  to so many people’s lives by doing one simple thing like waving and smiling warmly. His cheerfulness armed the start of my day. With a friendly wave and smiling face he had changed the  (10)  of the whole neighborhood.
