①A recent report found that kids 30 years ago could run faster and longer than kids today. ②The report found that today’s kids were 15% less healthy than kids from 30 years ago.

You’re a 13-year-old girl. Your mom was the same kind of kid when she was your age. Now imagine we could set up a mile race between you and your mom from 30 years ago. The study shows your mom would probably beat you in the race by 1.5 minutes. It was the same for boys. A boy from 30 years ago would beat a boy today.

The scientists who did the study think there are some reasons for the big fall in health. First, too many of today’s kids are overweight. That makes it harder for them to run fast. Second, kids today don’t get enough exercise. The doctor says that kids should take exercise at least 60 minutes every day. That’s why ③学生在学校上体育课是重要的。

So what should kids do? If you don’t want your mom and dad to think they are faster than you, don’t spend a lot of time looking through the Internet, watching TV or movies. Instead, do things that will get you up and to move.

David Adler is a dreamer. He always has been. As a boy, he often created stories to make his brothers and sisters happy. His parents owned a house with three floors. They used it to keep unwanted things on the third floor. David loved

to crawl (爬) around up there, looking through all the things. It gave him ideas

for even more stories to tell!

David, the dreamer, grew up and became a teacher. He didn’t stop dreaming, though.  One  day  his  three-year-old  nephew  visited  him.  He  asked  David  a

question. That question was followed by another question. And another. And another. The boy’s questions just kept coming! After he left, David’s head was filled with all the questions his nephew had asked. David Adler wrote a story using all those thoughts. He sent it off to a publisher to see if they liked it. They did! His first story was going to become a book! It was called A Little At A Time.

Not a lot changed after David Adler wrote his first book. The only thing that changed was he started doing more writing. David decided to take a break from teaching when his first son was born. His wife had a good job and wanted to go back to work. David had to stay at home to care for his son. One day, David took notes of all the things that he needed each time he took the baby outside.

That thought inspired (激发) him to write a mystery book. It would be the first of many books

centred on a character named Cam Jansen, a girl with an amazing memory. The books were a big success. Then he gave up teaching and became a full-time writer.

David Adler has dreamed up a lot of different stories. He still spends a lot of time dreaming. It is how he comes up with ideas for his books. He says, “Don’t Think. Just Write!” He does his best work when he just writes the things that come into his head.

Astronaut spends year in the ISS

Living in space is common to astronauts . But what if it is a task of a year?

US astronaut Scott Kelly was in the International Space Station(ISS) for 340 days. It was the longest time a US astronaut has spent in space at a time.

Kelly’s stay is part of the Twins(双胞胎) Study. When Scott spent a year in the ISS, and his twin brother Mark, lived on Earth. They gave scientists more ways to study human space flight.

Usually living in the ISS for such a long time is boring. Was it the same for Kelly? Let’s take a look!

              Good morning, everyone!

It’s time to enjoy a sunrise. But for Kelly, it was one of the 16 sunrises he saw each day in the ISS. Isn’t that cool?

              Work comes first.

During his stay, Kelly and his partners did about 400 science experiments. One of them was about planting vegetables. And they did it! Growing vegetables will be helpful for longer space journeys.

              Moving with microgravity(微重力).

As we all know, space is a place with microgravity, which influences(影响) human bodies. So Kelly did exercise more than 700 hours in the ISS. That is about two hours of exercise a day. Microgravity also makes some easy things difficult. Kelly often slept in a sleeping bag, or his arms would float(漂浮) in front of him all the time.

Boring? Why not do something fun?

Kelly loved taking photos from space and sharing them with the world online. Even President Obama is his fan. Under one of his photos, Obama wrote:“Hey, loving the photos. Do you ever look out of the window and just feel afraid?” “I don’t feel afraid about anything, Mr. President, except getting a question from you,” Kelly replied.

Answer the questions according to the passage.

              (1) How long did Kelly stay in the ISS?

              _______________________________________________________________________________

              (2) Why did scientists start the Twins study?

              (3) Kelly and his partners did some sciences experiments. Please give an example.

              (4) What did Kelly have to do because of microgravity(微重力)?

Look around and you’ll see people busy on their smart phones(智能手机). Smart phones do make our lives easier than before. But have you ever thought about what they mean to your eyes?
According to a study, half of British people own smart phones and they spend an average of two hours a day using them. There has been a 35% increase in the number of people in the UK who are shortsighted(近视) since smart phones were introduced there in 1997.
Looking at smart phones for a long time gives you dry eyes. When looking at something far away, your eyes automatically blink(自动眨眼) a certain number of times. However, when you look at things closer to your face, the blinking will slow down and this will be bad for eyes. Another bad habit is using smart phones in dark rooms before going to sleep. If you look at a bright screen, your pupils(瞳孔) will become larger and too much light will enter your eyes. This can do harm to the eyes and cause a disease called glaucoma(青光眼).
There are a few things you can do to protect your eyes. Hold your phone at least 30 centimeters away from your eyes when using it. Take a break every hour and try the following: look at something at least five meters from you and then try to look at the tip of your nose. Repeat this several times and it should reduce the discomfort in your eyes.

Although smart phones are useful, please use them in a right way.

During the first few hours of climbing,I enjoyed the flowers and trees, and the birds’ singing, but as time passed,I hated it at that moment. “Only there at the top,can you see au of the nice things, just like in life.” My father said to me,“You can always see a beautiful sky at the top of the mountain, but you canˈt see it before you reach the top”.

At that time,1 was too young to understand his words. But later after that. I got new hope and confidence(信心).I found myself standing at the top of the mountain. And there,I could see the whole of the sky, which was as clear as crystal(水晶).
