When Imet mybest friend for the first time. I was studying for an important oral exam in the library and people there made a lot of noise. The more upset I got, the  (1)  it was for me to stay focused. The worst was that someone was even singing loudly behind me.

I   (2)   and glared (盯着) at the person. She looked like a friendly girl,   (3)  it made me even angrier.

I picked up my books, glared at her and said in a low voice angrily. “Thanks to your   (4)  ,I’ve been unable to study. You’re so selfish.”

When I got home twohours later, I found that I’d left my most important textbook in the library and the library was closed. I was so   (5)   that I almost cried. Just then, the phone rang. After making sure that I was Jane, the girl said that she had found my book and she got my phone number from the librarians’ files according to my name on the   (6)  . She said she could bring it around for me.

I was so   (7)  ! When I found she was the girl I had shouted at for singing, my face turned red and I said sorry several times for my rude behavior(粗鲁的行为). Jenny just laughed and told me she was glad to see that I’d also left my glare in the library! I couldn’t help   (8)  .

We got along reallywell and ever since then we’ve been best friends. I often think how   (9)  I am. If Jenny hadn’t been a kind person who was willing to forgive (原谅) my rudeness, I would never have   (10)   such true friendship.

China has changed so fast that it is hard to know when to start. I came to China in 1994 and _(1)_ here ever since, so I have seen the changes in China. Take one city, Shenzhen for example. When I first saw this city, it   (1)  _ beggars (乞丐) and lots of low rise buildings. Many of the _  (2)  _ had shack (窝棚) buildings on top of them.

There were no birds and other little wild life. It was like entering a   (3)  _ planet. But in the past 20 years Shenzhen has been a rather modern city   (4)  _ huge high rise buildings and a stock (股票) exchange, also a very large shipping industry.

Now the city is very green, _  (5)  _ the wildlife has returned. Finally I can hear the birds _  (6)  _ and this brings hope of a better China in the future.

As China moves from being the "workshop" of the world to a more acceptable service industry and people live _  (7)  than before. The present leader is taking the country in the best possible direction and   (8)  _ is admirable (令人钦佩的).

China has changed for the better and I've enjoyed every minute   (9)  _ I've spent there. I think the country will become more beautiful in the future.

Dogs are people's friends. They will do anything their masters(主人)ask them to do and they do their duty very well.

Curly is my black dog. He is big and strong. He is strong enough to carry me on his   (1)  . He likes running and playing with me. He likes to   (2) . my father around in the fields, too.

One day my father took off his coat. put it on the ground   (2)   a big tree and said to Curly.“  (3)   my coat.”

Curly sat down on the coat. Then my father remembered he had to   (4)  dinner for the Family.   (5)   he went home and forgot all about his coat and dog

Late in the evening I   (6)   my dog and looked for him everywhere in the yard. I called, "Curly, Curly!" But Curly did not answer.

Soon my father wanted something in his coat pocket(口袋). Suddenly he remembered   (7)   he had done. Quickly he went back to the big tree. What do you think he saw? Curly was   (8)   sitting on the coat! He was afraid someone would take it   (9)  .

In China, there are still lots of girls and boys   (4)  her. They want to study in classrooms, but their families don’t have much money.   (5)   the family has two or three children, it is hard to let     (6)   the children go to school. Now they don’t need to    (8)   the money. From 2006 children can go to school for free in some places. They don’t have to   (9)   for books and other things. Every day, people produce rubbish in the city. Taking away a city’s rubbish is a big _(1)_. Every day trucks come into a city to (2)_ it. Most rubbish is _(3)things we can’t eat or use. If we kept these things we would soon have a mountain of rubbish.

In some cities the rubbish is collected and taken outside of city to a(4)_. Often the city dump(垃圾场) is placed where the ground is low_(5)_ there is a big hole. The kitchen rubbish is broken into small pieces and sent into the sewage system(污水系统). The sewage system takes away the used water from toilets, bathtubs and (6)_places.

To keep mice and flies away, some earth is used to(7)_the newly dumped rubbish. Later, grass may be planted on the rubbish-filled land. Finally, a house or a school may be built there, and then you’ll never know that this have once been an old rubbish dump.

In other cities the rubbish is  (1)  in special places. The fire burns everything but the metal. Sometimes the metal can be used again in factories where things are made of metal. The food parts of rubbish are put in special piles where they(9)_change into something called humus(腐殖质), which looks like black earth. And it’s found to be  (2)   in all kinds of things that can help plants to grow.

A school boy wanted to ask for two days off(请假), but he only learnt the phrase(短语)" have a day off". He thought and   (1)  , then he had an   (2)  .

He came to the teacher's office and said," Mother is ill. May I have a day off, sir?" "Of course, you can," replied(回答)the teacher at once.

The boy walked away. And then he   (3)  turned back and knocked(敲)  (4)  the teacher's door   (5)  , "May I have a day off again?" he said.

              The teacher was very   (6)  . "Didn't you say it   (7)  ?"

"Yes, sir. But I can't be here the day after tomorrow, either(也)."

The teacher understood him and could not help laughing(禁不住大笑起来). He said   (8)     (9)  smile, " Why   (10)  you say, 'May I have two days off?' "

Harry was worried. He remembered   (3)  the woman a return ticket. After he checked the Jersey timetable for May 22nd,he knew she was right. How had he made   (4)   mistake?       (5)   what to do,he smiled at the child.“Did you have a nice holiday in Jersey?”“Yes.The seashore was   (6)  . And I can swim,   (7)  !
              “That’s fine.”said Harry,“My little girl can’t swim a bit yet,of course,she’s only three.But you swam very well,   (8)  you?

One day, I heard an American boy say to a Chinese girl student, “You speak very good English.” But the girl answered, “No, no. My English is very poor.” The foreigner was quite   (1)   at the answer. Thinking he had not made   (2)   understood or the girl had not   (3)   him clearly, he said, “Yes, indeed, you speak very well.”

                  (4)   the girl still kept saying, “No.” In the end the American boy could not understand and didn’t know     (5)   to say. What’s wrong with the girl’s answer? She didn’t    (6)   a compliment (恭维) in the same way as the American people do. She should answer, “Thank you” instead of “No”. She     (7)   understood what the American boy had said, but she thought she should be modest. In the    (8)  , people will feel proud and    (9)   when they are praised . So if someone says the     (10)   you have cooked are very delicious, you should say, “Thank you.”
In our country we think being modest is a virtue (美德) and being proud is a bad thing , but in my opinion, being confident does not    (11)   being proud, so sometimes you should be confident    (12)   being modest.
                    (13)   you are modest and say, “No, I’m afraid I can’t do it well”, while working in a western country, the others may think that you really cannot do it. If you often say “No”, you will certainly be looked down upon by    (14)  . When asking for a job, if one says something like “Yes, I can certainly do it” instead of “Let me have a try”, he or she will     (15)   get it. So in the west, you should be brave to show your self-confidence.
