Curly sat down on the coat. Then my father remembered he had to  (5)    dinner for the family.  (6)  he went home and forgot all about his coat and dog.

Late in the evening I  (7)  my dog and looked for him everywhere in the garden. I called,“Curly, Curly!” But Curly did not answer.

Soon my father wanted something in his coat pocket(口袋). Suddenly he remembered  (8)  he did. Quickly he went back to the big tree. What do you think he saw? Curly was  (9)  sitting on the coat! He was afraid someone would take it  (10)  .

At that moment,I knew the meaning of the suspended coffees. It's simple--people pay the coffee in advance(预先)for someone who can't (  34  ) it.The tradition with the suspended coffees started in Italy, but it has spread all over the world.Meanwhile,I understood suspended coffee is not only a cup of coffee, but also the (  35  ) and love to someone in need.

I was six when I joined my father and two elder brothers at sunrise in the fields of Eufaula, Uklan. From the time I was eight I was helping Dad fix up old furniture. He gave me a cent for every nail(钉子) I  (1)  out of old boards.

I got my first real job, at JM’s Restaurant in town when I was 12. My main responsibilities were clearing up tables and washing dishes, but  (2)  I helped cook.

Every day after school I would  (3)  to JM’s and work until ten. Even on Saturdays, I worked from two until eleven. At that age it was difficult going to  (4)  and watching my friends run off to swim or play. I didn’t really like work, but I loved what work allowed me to have. Because of my job, I was always the one buying when my friends and I went to the local(当地的) Tastee Freez. This made me feel  (5)  .

Word that I was hardworking and trustworthy(讲诚信) got around the town. A local clothing store offered me a credit card  (6)  I was only in seventh grade. I immediately bought a $68 sport coat and a $22 pair of shoes. I was  (7)  only 65 cents an hour, and I already owed(欠) the store—keeper $90! So I learned gradually the danger of easy credit. I paid  (8)  as soon as I could.

My first job taught me self-control responsibility and brought me a level of personal satisfaction that  (9)  of my friends experienced. As my father, who worked three jobs, once told me, “If you  (10)  responsibility, there are not many things in life you can’t have.” How right he was!

She gave me some medicine and then left, without saying  (3)  . At that time, I felt good to say what I always wanted to say, and I didn’t think I had hurt her feelings very much. That night I saw my mom  (4)  in her room, so quietly. Even so, I hated her tears from one eye. I made a  (5)  : I must study hard and leave my mother.Years later,I was quite successful and lived  (6)  . I never thought of going back to see my “ugly” mother  (7)  one day I got a letter: “Dear son… I’m sorry I only have one eye. When you were little, you got into an accident and lost your eye. People like dolphins because they are both lovely and clever. They have a(n)   (1)   IQ (智商).Dolphins can ‘talk’. Scientists try to ‘talk’ with dolphins, and the   (2)   make them surprised. They find dolphins may understand them so well.

Most animals enjoy playing, but dolphins like to make their games different. On a beautiful day in 1997, scientists on a beach   (3)   a little dog going into the sea. They were surprised to see the dolphins come up to the dog and then start throwing (扔) it into the air. The dog   (4)   the ‘game’ and kept playing with the dolphins for over an hour.

Dolphins live in  a very different world from   (5)  , but they are very good at our ‘IQ tests (测试)’. For example, in the picture above, a dolphin jumps   (6)   the water when he hears a whistle noise (哨声). He does this because he will get a fish   (7)   an award.

There is   (8)   much to learn about these lovely friends.

I can’t remember when I started collecting litter. But it was when I got tired of   26 litter nearby that I realized no one else was going to pick it up.

I live near a forest inOhio, America. I can walk there 27 three minutes. I used to love going there to play with my dog. But one day there was 28 much litter there that I became very unhappy. I decided to clean up the forest, and I wanted to 29 happy when I went there again. I made my first trip to clean the forest that afternoon. I took a big black rubbish bag with me. Ten minutes   30 I started to pick up litter, my bag was full! There were cans, bottles, broken glass and newspapers in it.

From then on, I 31 to the forest four times a year to pick up litter. I often stay there for three hours. It makes me feel 32 to do something for the environment. After each trip, I look through all the litter that I’ve collected. If 33 of it is recyclable (可回收利用的), I’ll keep it. I can’t understand why people drop litter. But I will keep on picking it up 34 they stop dropping it. I know I am only doing a small bit 35 the earth, but I still think it is important.

How did we help to save our earth this week? Let me tell you.

First, my family tried to save electricity. We never left the lights   (1)   when leaving the rooms. We   (2)   the TV when nobody was watching it. Mum only used cold water in the washing machine.

Second, we started recycling(循环,回收)this week. We tried to write on   (3)   of our paper, not just on one side. We also divided (分成) our rubbish into   (4)   bags for bottles, paper and food. Mum kept the plastic shopping bags from the supermarket to use them again as rubbish bags.

Third, my family started to save   (5)  . We stopped   (6)   long baths and had short showers   (7)  . We washed the toilet with used water. Mum and dad used less water to do the washing. My sister and I didn’t leave the tap running when we brushed our teeth.

At last, mum and dad began to save gas. Mum used to   (8)   us to school, but now my sister and I started riding our bikes to school. It’s hard work   (9)   good exercise! This week dad and a few of the people in his company also started to go to work in one car and share the   (10)  .

These are great ways to help protect our environment.

A thousand years ago Hong Kong was covered by a thick forest. As more and more people came to  (1)  in Hong Kong, these trees were cut down and burnt. Now there is  (2)  forest left, though there are still some small areas covered with trees. We call these woods.

Elephants, tigers and many  (3)  animals were living in the thick forest. When people came to live in Hong Kong, the  (4)  began to die out. Early farmers grew rice and  (5)  pigs and chickens in the valleys. They cut down the trees and burnt them. They needed  (6)  to keep themselves warm in winter, to cook their food and to keep away the dangerous animals. Elephants quickly disappeared because there was not enough food for them.  (7)  did most of the wolves and tigers. Monkeys and many other animals soon     (8)  in the same way.

You might think that there are no longer any animals in Hong Kong  (9)  in the zoos. But there are still about 36 different animals  (10)  there. One of the most interesting of Hong Kong’s animals is the barking deer. These are beautiful little animals  (11)  a rich brown coat and a white patch under the tail. They look like deer but they are much smaller. They are less than two feet  (12)  .They make a noise rather like a dog  (13)  .In Hong Kong the barking deer has only a real enemy—  (14)  .People hunt these little animals though it is illegal. There are now not many barking deer left. So it is important  (15)  people to protect wild animals.
