At night, you fall asleep while listening to beautiful music. In the morning, you are   (1)   up by the singing of birds outside. You can enjoy all of these things because of one important organ(器官)-the ears. March 3 is Ear Care Day. It helps us remember the   (2)   of our ears and encourages us to take good care of them. You may wonder: how do the ears   (3)   ? The ear has three different parts: the outer ear, the middle ear, and the inner ear. The outer ear is the part you can see. It collects   (4)   around you. The sound then travels down to the middle ear, the inner ear and then to your brain.

Your ears never stop working, even   (5)   you are asleep! Thatˈs why you may sometimes wake up suddenly in the middle of the night-your brain   (6)   something, but you donˈt know what it was, since you were asleep.

But ears do more than hear. They help you keep your balance, too. In the inner ear, there are organs that are filled   (7)   liquid(液体)and covered in small hairs. When you move your head, the liquid and hairs move, too. They send   (8)   to your brain about the position of your head.

More surprisingly, ears even help with   (9)   food. If something happens to your ears, you may have a hard time telling different tastes, according to the website of Peopleˈs Daily.

The ears are   (10)   important organs. Everyone should make sure to protect their own ears as well as they can.

Yesterday was Father's Day. Many things happening between my father and me crowded my mind. But one thing made a deep impression on me.

It was a Sunday morning, and I was in a  (1)  mood.Two of my friends had gone to the movies the night before and hadn't invited me. I was in my room  (2)  ways to make them sorry when my father came in. “Want to go for a ride today, Beck? It's a beautiful day.”

“No! Leave me alone!” Those were the  (3)   words I said to him that morning.

My friends called and  (4)  me to go to the mall with them a few hours later. I forgot to be  (5)  with them and then went with them. When I came home, I found a  (6)  on the table. My mother put it where I would be sure to see it.“Dad has had an  (7)  .Please meet us at Highland Park Hospital.”

When I reached the hospital, my mother came out and told me a car hit my father and his injuries were extensive(大面积的).“Your father told the driver to leave  (8)  alone and just call 911,thank God! If he had moved Daddy, …”

My mother may have said more, but I didn't hear. I didn't hear anything   (9)  those terrible words: Leave me alone. My dad said them in order to  (10)   himself. He didn't want to be hurt more. How much had I hurt him   (11)   I shouted out those words at him earlier in the day?

It was several days later that he was  (12)  able to have a talk. I held his hand gently, afraid of hurting him.

                  “Daddy … I am so sorry …”

“It's okay, sweetheart. I'll be okay.”

“No, I said, “I mean about  (13)  I said to you that day. You know, that morning?”

He looked at me and said, “Sweetheart, I remember  (14)  about that day, not before, during or after the accident. I remember telling you goodnight the night before, though.” He managed a weak smile.

My English teacher once told me that words have great power. They can hurt or they can heal(治愈). And we all have the power to   (15)  our words. I am going to do that very carefully from now on.

Andy woke up and looked at the clock,11:30? He jumped out of bed and threw on clothes. He had watched to get up early and surprise his dad with Father’s Day breakfast in bed—with his mom’s help of course. He took up the wrapped present on his desk and went to find his   (1)  .

“Where is Dad?” Andy checked all the rooms, but the whole house was empty. He walked out to the   (2)  , and his jaw dropped. Dad was holding a hammer and looking at a new tree fort that stood in   (3)   big back yard.

Andy climbed the rope ladder up to the fort. It had two rooms with three small windows.

Dad followed Andy into the fort, looking excited. “I spent all morning   (4)   it. I had one when I was your age. Grandpa surprised me with it on Father’s Day, too.”

              “So, it’s like a(n)   (5)  ?” Andy asked.

“Yes, it is a present for   (6)   of us. Maybe you’ll build one for your son one day.”

Dad looked around and asked Andy   (7)   they would do first in the tree fort. Andy slowly showed the   (8)   and said, “Happy Father’s Day!” He didn’t think it was possible,   (9)   Dad’s smile widened as he opened the gift. “A chess set! How did you know I wanted   (10)  ?”Andy always saw his dad playing against the computer and he guessed it   (11)   be his father’s favorite.

“Let’s play it! ”Dad set up the chessboard. “It’s the   (12)   gift I got of all this Father’s Day.”

“I’m glad you like it.” Andy said.

“I do, but I was talking about spending more time with you. I   (13)   loved the father-son time. I spent a lot with your grandfather when I was   (14)  .” Andy looked at his dad, “Can we call Grandpa and   (15)   him to come to the fort? ”

Dad squeezed Andy’s shoulder. “I think he’d love that. ”

That day, the three men played, talked and laughed. It was really a happy Father’s Day.

If you live in the New England area of the United States, you will hope for the storm on a cold winter night before you go to bed. Why? The reason is pretty simple: a big (1)   means a snowy day and a day  (2)  !
