If we don't have classes or exams, summer vacation is a good time for every kid. To me, it means  (1)  more than not going to school. It is also a golden opportunity to   (2)   time with my family because 1 have  (3)   time with them during the school year.

    Last summer I traveled with my family to the Hawkesbury River in Western Sydney. It was one of the most unforgettable summer   (4)   of my life.

    Staying by the river helped us escape  (5)   the hot weather and noise of the city. Every day, my family and I got up early to go   (6)  in the cool water. In the morning, we all took part in a big game. Everybody played,   (7)  my grandparents, parents, brothers and sisters. We enjoyed water-skiing, wakeboarding (水上滑板) and other activities. These activities   (8)   our family closer together.

    In the afternoon, we peacefully read a favorite book under a tree by the river, The days always ended with a campfire (篝火). Everyone sat around the fire, talking and laughing.

    The river is a great place for you to forget about all the   (9)   of everyday life and simply enjoy the moment. To me, it is the perfect place to spend time together with my family. I can't   (10)  thinking about those days again and again, even so many months later.

   One's attitude(态度) is always important. If you are lazy or weak, you'll never taste success. But if you are  (1)  , success and happiness may come to you.

   I love persimmons (柿子). But I can't get them until autumn. If I try them before the right time, they probably  (2)  bad. In Grade Six, because of my poor grades, my parents were   (3)  that I wouldn't get into an excellent middle school. They   (4)  me to study harder, but I didn't really understand why they were so anxious. Summer came and I studied hard. The hot weather  (5)  me sleepy and I couldn't concentrate (集中精力)on my textbook. But every time when I wanted to stop studying, my dad would say, "Think about your   (6)  . If you don't work hard, you will regret." I had to sit back down again and return to my textbook. But all I  (7)  about was playing with my friends.

   My dad would say to me, with a serious look on   (8)  face, "If a persimmon tree doesn't grow in summer, it can't bear(结出)fruits in autumn! Only by working hard can you get good results." A few months later, I succeeded in   (9)  the key middle school. I was so happy. My dad was right. If a persimmon tree doesn't grow  (10)  summer, there will be no fruits in autumn. I worked hard and I enjoyed the fruit of my hard work!

A boy lost his arms in an accident. After that, his younger brother had to look   (1)   him. He could hardly do anything in his life. As the two brothers   (2)  together, they had lots of problems and often fought. Then one day, his younger brother left him. The boy was too sad and he didn't know   (3)  to do.

When your English teacher asks you to read silently in class, you may think it’s a little strange .You may   (1)   why you should do so. Actually reading silently is an important technique which can help you improve your English .

  When you read   (2)   rather than in your head ,you read more slowly. This could be because you are   (3)  some time on the words ,making sure the pronunciation is correct. When you read silently, you can read faster and therefore cover more things .

  As said above , when you read aloud, you are concentrating on your pronunciation rather than reading the words in front of you .When you read silently, you get much more information and    (4)   better .

  When you read aloud , you have no choice but to read every single word you come across. When reading silently, you can skip some   (5)   parts and just read the most important parts of the text .

  If you are leaning English in a   (6)   rather than at home, it’s beneficial for all students to be able to read the same information. If everyone is reading aloud, it would be very   (7)   to hear and understand what is being said. However if the whole class reading silently, it   (8)   it much easier for everyone to work on the same piece of the text .

  Another reason why reading silently is more beneficial in class is that not   (9)   has good pronunciation . It is easy to listen to , and to   (10)   another student’s bad habits when pronouncing certain words . Reading silently and then speaking English in a small group is a much better way.

A grandmother and her young granddaughter went out to do Christmas shopping for family and friends. While they were walking down a busy city street, they   (1)   a homeless man. He was sitting against the cold wall of a tall building. He   (2)   old and thin. The man wasn't begging （乞讨） for money. He was making paper roses. He did it slowly and kept on blowing on his hands   (3)   it was so cold. There were several   (4)   in front of him. They were   (5)   different sizes and colors.

The grandmother replied, "Dear child, it may be his nature （本性） to buy cigarettes with the money, but it is my nature to   (10)   a man in need."

Give because it is your nature, not because you want or expect something in return.

    A woman and her little daughter went to the supermarket. But when they came  (1)  , it started to rain outside. And it seemed that it couldn't   (2)   in a short time. They had to hide(躲藏) in a building. There were many people like   (3)  . They all looked worried. They   (4)   the rain to stop soon. But it rained harder and harder. And suddenly the woman felt sad. She thought of her sad things during these years, They were   (5)   this heavy rain. Her parents left her because of illness(疾病), her husband died in an accident, she lost her job.

    But suddenly her   (6)   said to her, "Mum, let's run to the bus stop! Then we can   (7)   the bus and go home." "Why? We will get   (8)   in the rain." "But mum, our   (9)   will be dry again. Do you think so?" Then the little girl ran to the bus stop in the rain. The mother   (10)   all the sad things. She followed her daughter and ran to the bus stop.

    Life will go on, we should face storm(暴风雨) and rain, only after these, we can see the rainbow. Stop thinking about our past, cheer yourself up and the world will smile at you.
