As young students, you have many dreams. These dreams can be very big, such as winning the Nobel Prize; they can also be small, such as becoming one of the best students in your class.Once you find a dream, what do you do with it ? Do you ever try to make your dream real?
Andrew Matthews, an Australian writer, tells us that making your dreams real is life's biggest challenge. You may think you're not very good at some school subjects, or that it's impossible for you to become a writer. Those kinds of ideas stop you from realizing your dream. In fact, everyone can realize his dream. The first thing you must do is to remember what your dream is. Don't let it leave your heart. Keep telling yourself what you want every day and then your dream will come true faster. You should know that a big dream is, in fact, made up of many small dreams.
You must also never give up your dream. There will be difficulties on the road to your dreams. But the biggest difficulty comes from yourself. You need to decide what is the most important. Studying instead of watching TV will help you to get better exam results, while saving five yuan instead of buying an ice cream means you can buy a new book.
As you get closer to your dream, it may change a little. This is good as you have the chance to learn something more useful and find new hobbies.

It seems food deliverymen (送货员) are always in a hurry. They wear blue, red or yellow helmets and many of them don't follow traffic rules. They drive on the wrong side of the road and run red lights. They use mobile phones while driving.
These reckless behaviors have caught the public's attention.
In the first half of 2017, food deliverymen had 76traffic accidents in Shanghai, according to Shanghai Security Bureau. That means every two and a half days, a food deliveryman will die or get hurt on the road.
What makes deliverymen take such risks? The strict rules of the food delivery service companies and the impatient customers may be the answer.
Many companies will fine a deliveryman up to 2,000yuan, if he fails to deliver an order on time, reported China Daily. Fines also go to those who get bad reviews from customers
To solve the problem, food delivery service companies need to improve their incentive system (激励机制), noted CRI Online.
Some cities are also taking action. Shanghai has asked companies to train their deliverymen on traffic rules and safety. Now in Shenzhen, if a deliveryman gets caught breaking traffic rules more than twice, then he can be prevented from driving food service delivery vehicles for a whole year.
              (1) The first paragraph mainly tells us that many food deliverymen ______ .
              A. work very hard
              B. are good at driving
              C. break traffic rules
              D. use mobile phones too much
              (2) What does the underlined word "reckless" in paragraph 2mean in Chinese? ______

              (3) What is the main idea of the last paragraph? ______
              A. Companies are improving their review systems.
              B. Some cities are working to improve the situation.
              C. To drive safely, food deliverymen will obey more traffic rules.

When the two brothers were old enough to marry, their father was not happy because their family wasn't so rich that the brothers often argued with each other about some small interest. He really didn't know how they would fight when they broke up the family and lived apart (分开的).
One day, their father was sick, lying in bed and staring (凝视) at something, when the elder son came over to wish him good health. His father said, "Ask your brother to come here, and I have something to say."
The younger brother arrived. Their father sat up and said, "I don't know how the disease hit. I'm feeling terribly unwell." The brothers persuaded (劝说) their father not to worry about it, but he shook his head, "in fact, I don't worry about the disease because I can manage it, but if you are in disorder with each other in the future, it will be our family's ‘disease' and no one can deal with it." The brothers felt ashamed.
The father got out of the bed, pointed to some chickens in the yard and said "Look at them sitting there in peace with each other, isn't it good? " Then their father brought out a bowl of corns, went quietly behind the house and spread most of them on the ground. Then he went back to the yard with only a few coms left and flung (挥动) at the chickens. As soon as they saw the corns, the chickens jumped up, waved their wings and fought for it. The peaceful world was now filled with "smoke of gunpowder" for some corns.
The brothers smiled and understood what their father was driving at.
Their father added, "Both of you saw more corns are behind the house…"
As a matter of fact, aren't there many troubles in life because God spread some corns before us?
              (1) What was the old man worried about? ______
              A. His family was too poor to leave them anything.
              B. The two sons would fight over some small things.
              C. The elder son would make trouble with the younger one.

              B. The two brothers are impolite to each other.
              C. The two brothers make friends with each other.
              D. The two brothers get on badly with each other
              (3) What does the writer want to tell us? ______
              A. We should find new ways to deal with troubles in life
              B. People should be hard-working and live peacefully together.
              C. There are always bad things in our life which we should face.
              D. The disease of a family is more serious than the disease of a person.

Have you ever run into a careless mobile phone user on the street? Perhaps they were busy talking, texting or checking updates on WeChat without looking at what was going on around them. As the number of this new "species(物种)" of human has kept rising, they have been given a new name˗˗˗˗ phubbers
Recently, a cartoon created by students from China Central Academy of Fine Arts put this group of people under the spotlight(聚光灯). In the short film, phubbers with different social identities always put themselves in their phones. A doctor plays with his mobile phone while letting his patient die, a pretty woman takes selfie(自拍照) in front of a car accident site(场地), and a father loses his child without knowing about it while using his mobile phone. A chain of similar events finally leads to the destruction(毁灭) of the world.
Although the ending sounds overstated(夸张), the damage(损害)that phubbing can bring is real.
Your health is the first to bear(承受) the effect and result of it. "Constantly(不断地) bending(使弯曲) your head to check your telephone could damage your neck," Guangming Daily quoted(引述) doctors as saying, "the neck is like a rope that breaks after long-term stretching(伸展)." Also, staring(盯着) at telephones for long periods of time will damage your eyesight gradually, according to the report.
But that's not all. Being a phubber could also damage your social skills and drive you away from your friends and family. At reunions(团聚)with family or friends, many people tend to stare at their telephones while others are chatting happily with each other and this creates a strange atmosphere, Qilu Evening News reported.
It can also cost you your life. There have been lots of reports on phubbers who fell to their death, suffered accidents, and were robbed of their telephones in broad daylight.
              (1) What does the underlined word phubbers mean in Chinese? ______ .
              A. 低头族
              B. 打工族
              C. 月光族
              D. 啃老族
              (2) For what purpose does the author(作者) give the example of a cartoon in Para.2? ______ .
              A. To warn doctors against using telephones while treating patients
              B. To show the world will finally be destroyed by phubbers
              C. To advertise the cartoon made by students
              D. To tell people the bad influence of phubbing
              (3) Which of the following is NOT a risk a phubber may have? ______ .
              A. He might get divided from his friends and family
              B. His neck and eyesight will be gradually harmed
              C. He will cause the destruction of the world
              D. His social skills could be influenced
              (4) Which of the following may be the author's attitude(态度) towards phubbing? ______ .
              A. Supportive
              B. Against
              C. Active

Some parents consider mobile phones important tools for their young children. Mobile phones can help their family stay in touch. Yet others are against mobile phone use among kids. They argue that it will open the door up for threats such as cyberbullying (网上欺凌). Then when should kids get mobile phones?
According to a recent study, one-fifth of 3rd graders already have their own mobile phones. The number climbs to 39percent in the 5th grade. And it jumps to 83percent in middle school.
The study was done by Elizabeth L. Englander at Bridgewater State University. She studied more than 20,000kids between grades 3and 12. She wanted to research mobile phone use and its influence on cyberbullying.
In addition to mobile phone use at earlier ages, Englander also found that by the 3rd grade, 90percent of kids are already online, mostly playing games.
Because of the numbers she found, Englander draws a conclusion (结论) from the study. "Education on cyberbullying and cyber(信息技术的) behavior needs to begin before middle school," she says.
"Most children are online by third grade. And over 20% report experiencing problems with other children online," she adds.
Online bullying(恐吓) by age eight? That's a scary number. So the question still remains -- what age is the right age?
However, there's no real answer. There are many things to consider: family environments, a child's development level and the real need for a mobile phone. Scott Steinberg is the writer of The Modern Parent's Guide to Kids and Video Games. He suggests giving children a mobile phone when they will be outside and the need to keep in touch is necessary.

If you or someone near you is in danger, how will you do the first aid? Mr. Zhang, a doctor in Beijing First Aid Center has some useful suggestions.
Check the environment. Watch the situation carefully. Is there anything that might do harm to you? Will you or the victim be hurt by fire, harmful smoke, a broken building, electrical wires or other dangerous situations? Do not rush into a place where you coulcl be a victim yourself.
If being close to the victim will put your life in danger, search for skilled help at once. Skilled people have received special training and know how to deal with these situations. First aid isn't helpful if you do it but hurt yourself.

We can’t remember clearly since when we started to take our mobiles to a dinner table. This happens a lot, especially when we eat out. Once a dish comes, instead of lifting our chopsticks, we take out our mobiles and click. Later , we post the photos onto Weibo or WeChat, waiting to be “liked”. Then we check our mobiles from time to time during the meal, to see whether we get “liked” or not. We just cannot leave our mobiles for simply a meal.

Does that sound familiar to you? Do you do that often? If not, how do you feel when others do that when having dinner with you?

A recent study suggests that what we are used to doing is not that good. Spending time taking photos of food makes the food less pleasant. To test this, some researchers did an experiment. Some people were asked to take photos before they could enjoy the food. It turned out that the more photos they took, ____. So, why not stop taking photos and just enjoy the food ahead of you?

Besides the scientific result, there are also some other bad influences of taking photos of food before meals. After posting the photos onto the Internet, one will be unable to control himself and check his mobile many times. “ Does everyone accept my photo? I hope a lot of people like it!” It seems like your mobile secretly calls your name all the time, even when you are with real people.

So next time you go out to have dinner with your family or friends, how about not taking photos of food? Let the food be delicious as it is and share your life with people around you. Trust me, it will be a wonderful time.

Do your parents ever say, “Act like a lady” or “be a gentleman” to you? But in the eyes of today’s teenagers, what qualities should a lady or a gentleman have? Let’s take a look.

What is a gentleman? The girls have their say:
Huang Xiaoyu of Guizhou: A gentleman is not a strong, stupid guy. He doesn’t get angry. He cares about others’ feelings. He’s always ready to help. There is a boy in my class I think is a gentleman. I didn’t do well in the mid-term English exam. He comforted(安慰)me by saying I would do better next time. His words made me feel happier.
Chen Tingting of Shenzhen: A gentleman always says, “ladies first”. When it comes to cleaning up the classroom, he does the heavy work. He lets girls go into rooms first. There aren’t any gentlemen in my class. When there are snacks, the boys in my class are always the first to grab them!
Boys tell us what they think a lady is:
Wu Yifan of Dalian, Liaoning: A ladylike girl is gentle and quiet. But she’s not shy; she’s not afraid of expressing herself. She is kind and beautiful. To me, actress Dong Jie is a lady. She is pretty and gentle. She also has a kind heart. She does a lot for charity.
Wang Lichao of Tianjin: A lady is not just pretty-looking but wise too. She never says rude words. She is not noisy. She is always calm and at ease. I don’t think there are any real ladies in my class. Most of the girls are of a style I call “wild beauties”.

When you’re not at home, many worries may start to crowd your mind. Did I turn the coffee maker off? Did I lock the door? Are the kids doing their homework or watching television? With a smart home, you can quiet all of these worries.

A smart home is a home with a communication network. This network connects devices(装置), such as lights and TV sets, and allows them to be controlled from far away through electrical wiring(线路), mobile phone communication or WiFi over the internet.

More and more people may start to consider owning a smart home, because it makes life much easier. It can help keep your room at a certain temperature. It can record what happens inside the home and send the video to your phone. When you are on vacation abroad, you can use a smart home controller to turn on or off the electricity when necessary. Some smart homes can receive a visitor, allowing him to come in and offering him a drink. They can even feed the cat and water the plants.

Besides, smart homes are easy to fix. Most smart home technology and devices are wireless and can be set up with a small tool(工具), using only the guiding information. When a problem appears, you can deal with it yourself without paying a professional worker.

However, for home-users, the smart home technology is far from perfect. It can be rather expensive to own the technology and the devices.
