When we buy a house, we all want to have nice neighbours, because most of us think that it is helpful to live with some good neighbours. But what kind of neighbour is good? The answers are different from people to people. Here are my answers.

First, it is very important to respect (尊重) each other. If our neighbour tries to know more about our life, what will we feel? He or she may also talk with others about our life. Do you want to live with him or her any more? The answer is “No”. We will feel very sad to have this kind of neighbour and move away quickly.

Next, a good neighbour is always ready to give us a hand when we need him or her. For example, if we are not at home, our good neighbour will watch our house for us. 

Finally, a good neighbour should love the environment (环境). He or she never puts rubbish here and there. Good neighbours should keep the place clean, because the good environment can make us comfortable and happy.

I think we all should learn to be good neighbours, and I also hope everyone will have good neighbours and live a happy life.

The world itself is becoming much smaller by using modern traffic and TV, telephone and so on. Life today is much easier than it was hundreds of years ago, but it has also brought new problems. One of the biggest is pollution.

Pollution comes in many ways. We see it, smell it, drink it and even hear it.

The more people, the more pollution. Many years ago, the problem was not so serious because there were not so many people. Man is now slowly polluting the whole world. Air pollution is still the most serious. It’s bad to all living things in the world. Water pollution kills our fish and pollutes our drinking water. Noise pollution makes us become angry more easily.

Many countries are making rules to fight pollution. They stop people from burning coal in houses and factories in the city.

The pollution of SO--₂ is now the most dangerous problem of air pollution. It is caused by heavy traffic. It is sure that if there are fewer people driving, there will be less air pollution.

Fast walking is the exercise between walking and race walking. A study shows that fast walking has become the most popular exercise in China and many people walk more than 5,000 steps a day. The results of the study are from QQ users. About 37% of the people choose fast walking as their favorite exercise; over 23% choose running and more than 14% choose riding bikes.

Fast walking and running are easy, cost little and work well, so they are popular. And many people would rather do exercise in nature than go to gyms (健身房). Itˈs best to walk fast for at least 10 minutes at one time and walk up to 6,000 steps every day.

The study also shows that people in Guiyang, Guizhou love sports most. On average (平均), everyone there walks 5,941 steps every day. It seems that people in places with better environment and air are more willing to (更愿意) do sports.

  Local markets are interesting places. People go to markets early in the morning to buy fruits, vegetables, meat and fish. People also love local markets because the food is very fresh and cheap. Fruits, vegetables and meat often come from the farm the same day they are sold. The fish are often very fresh and come to the market straight from the fishing boat. But the market doesn't sell the same things every day. You can only buy some fruits and vegetables during some Certain(特定的) season.

    At the market, vendors(小贩) sell chicken, pork and beef. Just tell the vendor what kind of meat you want. Then say how much you want, and they will prepare the meat for you. If you don't want to cook, you can also buy cooked food at the market. Then you can take it home and eat it.

    Do you need any non-food items(非食品)? You can find those at the market, too! You can buy toys or books there. Do you need some new clothes or new shoes? You can also buy those at the market. Many people like to shop at the market, They can buy almost everything they need in one place.

   Some people live in high mountains. The air up high is thin. Mountains people are used to the thin air. They feel good when they live up high.

    Most people live in low places. If they go up high, their head hurts and they sometimes feel dizzy (头晕目眩的) and sick. They have to breathe faster. Their hearts beat faster. They have to move slowly. If they stay up high for a long time, their bodies will change. Their lungs will become large. Their larger lungs will help them to breathe the thin air.

    Airplanes fly high over the mountains. Big planes have enough air so the people inside won't get dizzy. The air gets thinner as you go higher. Out in space there is no air at all.

    In California, South America, most people live far up on the mountains. Sometimes they go down to the low country. People living there feel fine. But the people from the mountains feel sick.

 As an English, I can speak three languages—English, German and French, so do you think the British people are very good language learners? The fact is that they aren’t.

Some statistics (数据) from the survey done by the European Commission (欧盟委员会) showed that 62% of the British people only speak English. 38% speak at least one foreign language and 18% speak two or more. Compared with the British people, 56% of the people in other European countries speak at least one foreign language and 28% speak two or more.

From this you can see that the British people are famous for not speaking foreign languages and that they are not good language learners in Europe.

And the survey also showed that English is the most widely-spoken foreign language. Many European people can have a conversation in English. That’s why my people don’t think it is necessary to learn a foreign language.

In Britain, students are not required to learn a foreign language. That means learning a foreign language is only an option at school. In UK schools it is common for children to start learning a foreign language at 11 and many of them give it up at 14. So why don’t students continue learning foreign languages at school? Because they think it is more difficult to get good marks in languages than in other subjects such as science or history.

To solve this situation, the British government is looking for different ways to improve language learning at school. One way is to start learning it at a much younger age. Another one is to give school children more choices.

Changing the British attitude (态度) to learning foreign languages may be a hard task but the government decides to try!

Why do people grow green plants on the houses or tall buildings? Cities call it concrete jungles (水泥丛林) or green roofs. In many people’s minds, cities don’t have enough green. Green roofs are great to look at and great for the environment. They also give people fresh food and help people make more money.

Now roof gardens are becoming popular in New York City. Some people plant fruit and vegetables on the roof, like tomatoes, eggplants, green peppers and watermelons.

“I water my vegetables every morning and sell them in the afternoon, so they are very fresh,”said Zaba, a shopkeeper in New York City. In fact, he started planting fruit and vegetables on the roof 15 years ago. Half the food in his shop comes from his roof garden.

Some people even keep bees on their roofs. Kurt has 250 boxes of bees. He says the little bees are good for cities. They can not only pollinate plants, but also clean the city’s air. Of course, they can give people money, too.

English is now the first language of about 400 million people, the mother language of 12 countries and the official language of thirty-three more countries. That means one in every seven people in the world speaks English.

English has become the new Latin(拉丁语)of the century. One must know English is a part of the twenty-first century. In Italy, for example, English is a must for many technical(技术的)jobs. In China, English is the most important foreign language learned at school.

Now no other language on the earth is better suited to play the role of the world language. Because English is easier to learn than any other language, and it easily borrows local words and phrases from other countries to expand(扩大)its vocabulary.
