Overweight(超重)is one of the biggest health problems now. Being overweight affects more than how you look. Too much fat can kill you. Whatˈs worse, overweight children turn into overweight adults(成人).If youˈre obese now, you probably will grow into an obese adult.  But hereˈs good news.  You can fight overweight.

    Change your eating habits.

    You are what you eat. Kids like snacks.  Did you list any healthy snacks? One study of eating habits showed that soft drinks are the first in the snack list. Next, kids choose salty snacks, like chips.  Whatˈs more, the list is full of junk food from No. 3 to No. 11. Finally, No. 12，kids picked a healthy snack-fruit. So, think about your snack choice again.

    Get outside to exercise

    Jim, a player on his school football team, had a weight problem not long time ago.  He could never get anyone to play with him. So his father and he started playing football for a few minutes every night.  Ten minutes turned into an hour or more.  In just a few years, the heavy kid became athletic, fit and healthy.

    More TV means more fat

    Nearly every American kid watches TV for 2 hours and 56 minutes every day that adds up to 44 days a year of sitting. More TV (or more Internet surfing, or more computer games) means more fat.

    Eat an apple a day, walk around the house, play with your family...  Do it today, and do it  more tomorrow. It will help you a lot.

    1. Try to get up early.

    2. Try to take more exercise.

    3. Try not to sit in front of TV or computer for too long.

    4. Try to eat more healthy food.

Different countries have different customs(习俗). When you travel to other countries, please follow their customs.

Very often people forget to tip when they travel in the United States. When someone serves you at a restaurant or in a hotel, it is usual to leave some money for his or her good service.

In England, make sure of standing in line even though there are only two of you. And it’s a good idea to talk about the weather in England. It’s a popular topic among the British.

In Japan, people usually give cards to each other when they meet for the first time. When a person gives you a card, don’t put it into your bag right away. The person hopes you can read it.

And be careful of your language. A kind body language in one culture may not be polite in another.

In Canada you can find dogs, cats, horses etc, in almost every family. These are their pets. People love these pets and pets are their good friends. Before they keep them at their houses, they take them to animal hospitals to give them needles(针)so that they won’t carry disease(疾病). They have special animal food stores, though(尽管)they can get animal food in almost every store. Some people spend about two hundred Canadian dollars a month on animal food.

   When you visit people’s homes. they would be very glad to show you their pets .You will also find almost every family has a bird feeder (喂食器) in their garden. All kinds of birds are welcomed to come and have a good meal. They are free to come and go and nobody can kill any animals in Canada. They have a law against killing wild(野生的) animals. If you killed an animal, you would be punished(处罚). If an animal happened to get run over by a car, people would be very sad about it.

   People in Canada have many reasons to like animals. One of them is: When children grow up, they leave their parents and start their own work and life. Then their parents will feel lonely, but pets can help them. They can be good friends and never leave them alone.

 Everyone has worries. How do you deal with your worries? There is always something you can do to help yourself feel less worried. Sitting there worrying is no fun and it won’t solve your problems.

    Grades at school are often a top worry for children. If you worry most about grades, ask yourself these questions:

● Why are grades important? What do grades mean to me?

● How do I get ready for class? Do I go over my notes even when there isnˈt a test?

● Do I have a good place to do my homework?

● Have I tried different ways of studying?

If your worry is about a fight you had with your friend, you might write down all the things you could do ---- write a note to him or her, invite him or her to watch a basketball game, say sorry to him or her and so on. Once you have a list of things you could do, you can choose one thing that could get your friend back..

  You can ask for help when youˈre worried. You can find someone to talk to, such as your parents, friends, and teachers.

Sodagreen is a band(乐队) from Taiwan. There are six people in the band.They write and sing their own songs. Many young People like them.

For British people, the home is private（私人的）place in which he or she goes to hide away from the troubles of life. It is very seldom that one would be invited to a British person’s home. It is rude to knock on a person’s door if you are not invited. If you are invited, don’t ask to see more than the downstairs that your British host （主人）invites you into. Never ask how much the house or anything about the cost.

      To the American, most of them want their home to be a place where they can entertain (款待) and share their lives with their friends. They may be glad to give you a full tour of their houses. They may also be pleased when you show your interest and pleasure in their houses.

       Both British and American people will engage in quite a lot of talk and a drink or two before the meal is served. After the first mouthful, you should say how delicious the food is and ask something about it. Remember, never eat with your mouth open and make very little noise while eating. It would be nice of you to help your host in any way. Maybe offer to pour some drinks or clear up after the meal.

Can plants eat people? Probably not, but there are many plants that eat meat. Some of them are big, and they can eat small animals. One famous meat-eating plant is the Venus flytrap (捕蝇草).

The Venus flytrap is a very strange plant. It grows in dry parts of the United States. Its leaves are like the pages of a book. They can open and close very quickly. Inside the leaves, there are three small hairs. If a fly touches one of the hairs, the leaves closes quickly. The fly cannot get out. In about half an hour, the leaves press the fly until it is dead. Then, the plant covers the fly. Slowly, the plant eats the fly.

Why do plants do it? Most plants get what they need from the sun, the air, and the ground. In some places, the ground is very poor. It doesn’t have all these important things, especially nitrogen (氮). So some plants eat meat to get what they need. Let’s hope that some of the bigger plants don’t get the same idea!

Most of us know that the weather can affect our feelings. But do you know why? And how does the weather affect our moods? Scientists give us answers from their research(研究).

People often say the shining sun makes them happy while cloudy day makes them sad. It’s true that sunlight makes us feel good. When the sun shines on us, our bodies will produce(产生) vitamin D. Vitamin D is necessary and important for people to keep healthy. It can make us feel active and happy. For example, many people in Iceland(冰岛), Norway(挪威) and Finland(芬兰) often feel sad because there is little sunlight. The winters there are long and dark. Less sunlight makes their bodies produce less vitamin D. So scientists built special “sunrooms” with man-made lights to help people feel better in these countries. People can go there and enjoy the “sunlight” for a few hours every week.

A good way to pass an exam is to work hard every day in a year. You may fail (失败) in an exam if you are lazy for most of the year and then work hard only a few days before the exam. If you want to be good at English, you have to read stories in English, and speak English as much as possible.

    A few days before the exam you should go to bed early. Do not go to bed late at night. Before you start the exam, read carefully over the question paper, and try to understand the exact (确切的) meaning of each question. When you have at last finished your exams, read over your answers. Correct the mistakes if there are any and be sure that you have not missed (遗漏) anything out.
