What do you think of stress? Is it a good thing or a bad thing? Most of the students think stress can do harm   (1)   them in some ways. There’s a story about a teenager in a middle school. He even   (2)   his study because of the stress from school and family. We also usually   (3)   that someone turns to psychological doctors(心里医生) because of heavy working stress. There is no doubt that some people think stress is a dangerous wolf.

       On the other hand, other people argue that stress is not a bad thing. They  (4)   stress can produce momentum(动力）in the end. For them, right attitude and action can reduce stress and make it   (5)   . When I was a child, my mom always pushed me to study hard. She wished I could go to an ideal   (6)   for further education. I experienced stress for the first time. Waste can be seen everywhere in the school. Some students ask for more food than they can eat and others often forget to turn off the lights when they leave the classroom. They say they can afford these things. But I don’t agree with them.

Waste can bring a lot of problems. Although China is rich in some resources(资源), we are short of others, for example, fresh water. It is reported that we will have no coal(煤) or oil to use in 100 years. So if we go on wasting our resources, what can we use in the future and where can we move? Think about it. I think we should say no to the students who waste things every day. Everybody should stop wasting as soon as possible.

In our everyday life, we can do many things to prevent waste from happening, for example, turn off the water taps when we finish washing, turn off the lights when we leave the classroom, try not to order more food than we need, and so on. Little by little, everything will be changed. Waste can be stopped one day, if we do our best.

Some people think that success is only for those with talent or those who grow up in the right family, and others believe that success mostly comes down to luck. I’m not going to say luck, talent, and conditions are not important because they really are. Some people are born into the right family while others are born with great abilities, and that’s just how life is.

However, to succeed in life, one first needs to set a goal and then gradually put it into practice. What’s more, in order to get really good at something, one needs to spend at least 10,000 hours studying and practising. To become great at certain things, it’ll require even more time, the time that most people won’t put in.

This is a big reason why many successful people advise you to do something you love. If you don’t enjoy what you do, it is going to feel like great pain and will probably make you give up well before you ever become good at it.

When you see people showing some great skills or having achieved great success, you know that they have put in a huge part of their life to get there at a huge cost. It’s sometimes easy to think they got lucky or they were born with some unusual talent, but thinking that way does you no good，and there’s a huge chance that you’re wrong anyway.

Whatever you do, if you want to become great at it, you need to work day in and day out, with all your heart and over a long period of time. If you’re not willing to put in the time and work, don’t expect to receive any rewards(回报). Time and hard work won’t make sure that you will get the great success you may want, but it will make sure that you will become really good at whatever it is you put all that work into.

Someone says, “ Time is money.” But I think time is much （1） important than money. Why? Because when money is spent, we can get it back. But, when time is gone, it will never   （2）__. That is （3）_we mustn’t waste(浪费) time.

Television is good. You'd like to watch it all day and all night. But too much TV is a very bad thing. Scientists found that kids who watch too much TV may have more trouble learning to read. They can't focus(集中)on their work.

    Kids learn language skills best by reading, talking and playing with others. If they spend too much time watching TV, they will have less time for those things.

    Watching too much TV is bad for people's health. People don't move much while watching TV. What's more, they may eat a lot of food while watching. This can make them fat. We call these people couch potatoes(电视懒虫).

    Fighting on TV is a big problem for kids. Young people are good at following. Scientists have found that those who watch a lot of fighting shows are more likely to fight.

People like to say," The hand that rocks(摇动) the cradle(摇篮) rules the world.” Or they say, “Behind every successful man, there is a woman. "Now some women still hope their husbands and sons can be successful. But some women want more for themselves. They want to be as successful as men.

Today many best jobs are still given to men. Even when women do the same work, they are often paid less than men.Some women want these things changed. They want to stand beside the men, with the same chances for success.

Now many American women are earning money outside their homes. More than half of the women at the age of 18 to 65 have good jobs. In general, working women have more education than those who stay at home. Among women with jobs, eight out of ten drive a car to work, and most of them often spend their holidays away from home. They like travelling by air. Women's work had made several changes in women’s lives and in men's lives, too.

But things are quite different in the Middle East countries. In some Middle East countries, women have to stay at home. Their duty is to look after their families and do all the housework. They can't find work outside. When they go out in public, they cover their faces with something and walk behind their husbands.

For the past few years women's life has been changing in those countries. Many women want to play an active role in the society. Though working gives them few chances of getting married, many men still want to marry them in the old ways.

When the six very best students from different cities in Guangdong Province all together chose universities in Hong Kong; when the very best students of Beijing picked up HK University while giving up the nearby Beijing or Qinghua University; when the highest enrollment (录取) rate of Hong Kong Science and Industry University reached 48︰1, itˈs the high time to ask what happened to the education in China .

    Years ago, the answer certainly would be "Beijing or Qinghua University". But now no one could give the exact answer without thinking twice. The only sure thing is that HK universities have gradually showed an unusual attraction to a great many mainland students.

    Itˈs no doubt to call this HK craze (狂热,发狂), which even surprised HK universities themselves.

    How can HK universities come before Beijing and Qinghua University and attract so many mainland students?

    First, Hong Kong universities offer large-amount sholarship (奖学金), especially for the top students who can receive the sum scholarship as much as 400,000 HK dollars. Since a number of families find it a little difficult to afford higher education, itˈs easy to understand why HK universities are their first choices.

    Second, most HK universities receive professors and students from all over the world and both Chinese and English are spoken in class. This kind excellent language atmosphere (氛围) is another attraction for mainland students.

    Furthermore, university students in Hong Kong have a better chance to study abroad as exchange students.

    Can mainland top universities like Beijing or Qinghua University be calm as before when facing the unexpected competition from HK? Will they take measures (采取措) to win back the top students who once help them set the worldwide reputation (名声,名誉)? Time will explain it.

    The fierce competition brought by HK universities can be a good thing for the Whole improvement of education in China, After the awakening and action-taking of mainland universities, they can perform better together with HK universities.

    At least, it reminded the mainland universities the tuition fees (学费) are what students have to consider when they are choosing universities. Itˈs time to move.

  How can you learn about a person when you meet him for the first time? The fastest way is to look at his shoes.

A recent research shows that people can learn 90% about a stranger simply by looking at the person’s shoes. The research includes the study of the size, price, color, style and quality of the shoes, in order to learn how old the person is, how much he makes every month, what kind of person he is in life, how he works and so on.

In the study, 63 university students looked at pictures showing 208 different pairs of shoes worn by volunteers. The volunteers in the study were photographed in their most commonly worn shoes, and then they were asked to fill out a questionnaire (问卷).

So what did the shoes say about their owners?

Some of the results were expected. People making more money each month most commonly wore expensive shoes. Colorful and fashionable shoes were usually worn by people who are outgoing and outstanding.

However, some of the results are surprisingly interesting. For example, comfortable shoes were mostly worn by people who easily agree with others. And ankle boots (裸靴) were more likely worn by aggressive (有进取心的) people.

The strangest of all may be that those who wore uncomfortable-looking shoes are mostly calm and quiet people. And if you have several pairs of new shoes and take very good care of them, you may spend a large amount of time worrying about what other people think about you.
