It’s time for the new term again. How can we get back to the normal life?

              1  Get touch with everyone.

If you’re having the back-to-school blues, you can bet everyone else is, too. So, find a happy hour for your classmates. Talk about everyone’s summer experiences, or share what everyone learned over the summer holidays.

              2 _________

Before things get busy, spend an afternoon writing down your goals for the term. Would you like to apply for international study or post your first article for publication(发表)?Whatever your goals are, set them now, so you can work hard to make them come true.

              3 Start reading.

As soon as you have your school timetable, make a reading plan for the term, and list what and when you need to read. For example, if you’re planning to read four books per week, plan a weekend treat for yourselves. Frozen yogurt, a trip to the beach, dinner out, it’s yours-if you get your reading done.

Then, start reading. Believe me, you will thank yourself later for getting a head start now.

              4  Sleep.

Welcome week may have a lot of social activities, but make sure you do get eight or nine hours’ sleep every day. You won’t have such luxury(享受)later in the term.

Now you know what you need to do to set yourself up for success this term-so get to it! Good luck.

You are visiting the Eiffel Tower in France, but the next second you are in Thailand. Then, suddenly you may have dinner with Barack Obama in America. But you are not dreaming. This is what might happen in the near future. With the help of virtual reality (VR, 虚拟现实) technology, a lot of changes are taking place in our life.

VR is a computer technology that makes an environment and allows users to see and even interact (互动) with it. Just wear a pair of VR glasses joined to your computer and you can experience a lot of things without stepping out of your room.

“The most interesting part of VR is that it offers an immersive(身临其境) experience,” said Wang Bing, leader of the Chinese entertainment company Funshow. “That’s why VR movies are popular among users. You become a part of the story.” According to the Report on Chinese VR Users’ Behavior last month, over 960,000 people in China have bought VR products and 83.2 percent of them have watched VR movies.

VR can also be used in some other ways. It can help to train workers before they have to work in highly dangerous environments. VR also helps patients with acrophobia (恐高症) by making them think they are standing on the top of a tall building.

However, VR technology still has a long way to go. Users report feeling sick while wearing VR glasses. Maybe it could take a period of time for VR to be widely used around the world.

Maybe you are a common student. You think you will never be a top student. This is not necessary so,however, anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to.Hereˈs how you can be a good student.

Plan your time carefully. When you plan your week, you should make a list of things that you have to do.After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time.First your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc.then decide a good, regular time for studying.Donˈt forget to have enough time for fun.

Find a good place to study.Look around the house for a good study place.Keep this space, which may be a desk or simply a corner of your room, free of everything but books. No games, radios,or television! When you sit down to study, concentrate on the subject.

Make good use of your time in class.Listen to teachers.Listening carefully in class means less work later.Taking notes will help you remember what the teacher says.

Study regularly(规律地).When you get home from school,go over your notes.Review the important points that your teacher talk about in class. If you know what your teacher is going to discuss the next day, reading that material will become useful, and you will remember it longer.

A report from the United Nations(UN) says the world needs another 69 million teachers by the year 2030.The UN agency(机构)UNESCO made a promise in 2015 that every child in the world is to receive primary and secondary education within the next 14 years. Now there are 263 million children who do not go to school. Around 25 million of these might never get an education. The agency says a lot of work needs to be done to find enough teachers for schools. The most teachers are needed in the sub-Saharan (撒哈拉沙漠以南的)Africa and southern Asian.

The UN report warns that there are not enough teachers in countries with rising populations. This makes it harder to find enough teachers. It says, ”Without quick and continuing action, the situation will become worse in the face of rising need for education.”UNESCO is also worried about the quality of the teachers in some countries like Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone, fewer than 60 percent of the teachers in primary schools have been trained. There are also worries about class sizes. The UN says, ”In countries like Malawi, it is common to find over 100 children in one class. This has been a problem for many years.”

As we all know, the former(前任的) Chinese leaders were interested in playing sports, such as ping-pong, basketball and football. So is President Xi Jinping.

Xi was a sports lover and he used to playing football very much. And now he is also one of the football fans in China. He thinks we should not only care about the national team, but also pay much more to the training of the young players. So he visited Europe this year, he especially watched China-Germany(德国) youth football match. Although the team lost the game in the end, he still encouraged the young players to train harder and give up. He told them that they would be the keys to China’s football.

Our life is just China’s football. As Xi once said in Shanghai,“China’s football dream looks far away but we cannot stop. You might make your dreams one day only if you keep dreaming.” So there is no excuse for us to give up our dreams, and we must try our best to realize them.

A professor began his class by holding up a glass with some water in it. He held it up for all to see and asked the students, "How much do you think this glass weights?

                 "50gms!" "100gms!" "125gms!" the students answers.

"I really don't know unless I weight it," said the professor, "but, my question is: What would happen if I held it up like this for a few minutes?"

                 "Nothing," the students said.

"OK, what would happen if I held it up like this for an hour?" the professor asked.

"Your arm would begin to ache." said one of the students

"You are right, now what would happen if I held it for a day?"

"Your arm could go numb(麻木的,失去感觉的), and you might have to go to hospital for sure!" another student ventured and laughed.

"Very good! But during all this, did the weight of glass change?" asked the professor.

                 "No."

"Then what caused the arm ache and the muscle(肌肉) stress?"

                 The student were puzzled.

"Put the glass down!" said one of students.

"Exactly!" said the professor. "Life's problems are something like this. Hold it for minutes in your head and they seem OK. Think of them for a long time and they begin to ache. Hold it even longer and they begin to trouble you. You will not be able to do anything. It's important to think of the challenges(problems) in your life, but even more important to 'put them down' at the end of every day before you go to sleep. That way, you are not stressed; you wake up every day fresh and strong and handle any issue, any challenge that comes your ways!"

Every child in the UK must receive a full-time education until the age of 16. Parents can choose to send their children either to a state school, which is free, or to a private school, where a fee is required.

The school year is generally divided into three terms. Each term ends in a holiday. The summer holiday is the longest and usually lasts from the middle of July to the beginning of September.

Education has two main stages一primary school and secondary school. Primary schools are for students from the age of 5 to 11. The main subjects are Maths, English, History , Geography , Science , Art , Music and PE. Secondary schools are for students from the ages of 11 to16 or 18. The same subjects are taught there, as well as other subjects such as foreign languages (usually French, German or Spanish), Technology and Computer Studies.

After the age of 16, students can either find a job or continue their studies at a school or college until they are 18. Between the ages of 16 and 18 , students must choose only three or four subjects to study. At the end of the two years, they must take some important exams. If they do well, they can then go on to study at university. There are over 100 universities in the UK, and the most famous are the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge.

Researchers in University of Michigan have some advice for the parents who want to improve their children’s studies.

“If you want your children to do well in school, the amount of education you get yourself is important,” said Pamela Davis-Kean, from University of Michigan. “This may mean that some parents need to go back to school.” A growing number of studies have shown that the more education parents receive, the better their children’s language ability is. However, this is not so clear for the parents who don’t finish high school education.

One of the studies showed the influence(影响) of parental education(父母教育) on children’s success in school and at work. The study started when children were 8 years old and finished when they were 48. Another study showed that the language skills of three-year-old children were influenced a lot when their mothers returned to school.

Although the reasons why the parental education is important have not yet been fully discovered, researchers think it’s more than just a good model for children. “More education might mean that parents are more likely to read to their children,” said Davis-Kean. “Besides reading to children, there is another good thing about parents returning to school. When they go back to school, they need to learn to organize everything well. So, they are more likely to make better home environment.”

Below are some suggestions given by the English children posted on the website   about how to help Africa. Which one do you think is the best?

I think health is the most important thing. We need to make sure that the money we give is
spent wisely. The money should be spent first on clean water supplies and better health care.
                                                                                           -----Robin, aged 16, Birmingham

I think the most important thing is to improve the education of the African countries.
There is an old saying,"If you give a man a fish, youˈll feed him for a day. If you teach him
how to fish, youˈll feed him for a lifetime." We need to help people to help themselves, not
just throw money at the problem when it appears.
                                                                                           -----Rebecca, aged 15, Liverpool

People seem to give a lot more money to charity when there is a sudden, huge disaster (灾难) like the earthquake. Itˈs good for people to do so, but I also think that everyone should give a small part of their salary (工资) to charity. If everyone did that, it would make a big difference.
                                                                                    -----Mary, aged 14, Stratford

Giving money to charity can help, but itˈs not the final answer. I think what these
countries need is a good government.
                                                                                    -----Bethany, aged 16, Newcastle

The best thing we can do is to send experts like engineers, doctors and teachers to
help the people to help themselves.
                                                                                      -----Robert, aged 16, Cardiff

            • 10. Two primary schools are the first place in the UK to teach pupils to control themselves. The pupils are taught by a simple exercise that they have to resist eating one of the sweets. The training improves pupil’s performance by helping them stay calm and deal with stress. teachers say. It is being introduced into three schools run by Bright Futures Educational Trust in Manchester.
The training is also being introduced to students at Altrincham Grammar School for Girls, which is also run by Bright Futures Educational Trust. Teacher believe that young pupils can benefit (受益) from the fun mental (精神的) exercise, which challenges students to hold off from eating a tasty sweet.

The class, known as “Mindfulness Training”, started inAmerica, has been running in someUK secondary schools.

Amanda Bailey, from Bright Futures Educational Trust, said, “The same skills have also been used to help adults to deal with depression (沮丧) better.”

“We are starting to see some advantages. Just as you may go to the gym and train your body, this is a way for pupils to train their minds,” she added.
