The Amazon rainforests is home to millions of kinds of animals, plans and birds. Most of the world's fresh water is here and the forest plants clean the earth's air every day.

   Chicowas born near the Amazon town, Brazil, in 1944. When he was young, he got the money by taking a little rubber(橡胶) from the trees in the forest.

  But some people think too much about themselves and never think about the future. The forest was burned to build roads, houses and factories. Chico was angry and he wanted to save the forest. He talked to the government officers, and held group meetings. More people came together to try to protect the forest. Large areas of the forest were saved. Later he traveled to many other countries for international help. People soon became very interested in this brave man. The government of Brazil started making plans to protect the large areas of the Amazon rainforest.

  But as Chico’s dreams started coming true, he was killed right outside his home on December 22, 1988. Chico’s life was short, but he protected the forest and changed the world’s ideas.

Tony’s grandfather, Papi Luis(帕皮.路易斯), lives across from Tony’s family.①托尼每天放学后都要去拜访帕皮. Tony and Papi sit at the front door and talk. Papi tells stories about his life. He tells Tony how the town looked many years ago.

Tony loves to listen to Papi’s stories. Papi has so many to tell. One day Tony had an idea. He did not tell anyone. He took a tape player to Papi’s house. Tony recorded(录制)Papi’s stories.②Later, Tony listened to the tapes and wrote down the stories. He put each set of stories into a special notebook.

When he gave Papi the notebook, he told him,“You gave us the gift of your stories. Now I am giving them back to you.”Papi was surprised and moved (使感动) by what Tony did.

Internet is educational. Many people think children should be allowed(允许) to surf the Internet as they wish. In this way, they can look through different subjects on different kinds of websites(网页) according to their own interest. But in my opinion(观点), children should always be watched while surfing the internet. 

Many websites have information and pictures that children should not see .There are many things that children don’t understand .All of these may have some bad influence(影响) on children’s development. Also, it is dangerous to let children use chat rooms by themselves .Many parents tell their children not to talk to strangers on the street. So, they should be careful of whom their children talk to on the internet, too. What’s more , sitting in the front of a computer for a long time isn't good for children’s eyes , so parents should monitor(监视) the time that children spend on the internet .
