Dolphins are not fish. They are mammals (哺乳动物) , They live in groups and speak to each other in their own language. But they are quite different from almost all the animals. Their brain(大脑) is as big as man’s and they live a long life— at least 20 or 30 years.

Like some animals, dolphins use sounds to help them find their way around. They also use these sounds to talk to each other and to help them find food. They do not use their ears to get sounds, but use the jaw—the lower part of the mouth.

Dolphins are friendly to man, and for thousands of years, there are many stories about dolphins and man. In the 19th century, in a dangerous part of the sea near New Zealand, there was a dolphin. The seamen liked him very much and gave him a very good name, Jack. From 1871 to 1903, Jack met every boat in the area and showed them the way. In1903 apassenger(乘客) on a boat with the name “The Penguin” shot and hurt Jack. Luckily the dolphin didn’t die, and after a long time he was well again. He helped the ships find the way through the area for nine more years, but he didn’t help the boat “The Penguin”.

Today, some people still kill dolphins, but many countries in the world now protect them. In these places, people mustn’t kill them.

Usain Bolt said he planned to keep his Olympic 100m and 200m sprint(短跑比赛)titles(冠军)at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games(里约奥运会). Bolt, who kept both titles as well as the 4x100m in London, said he decided against changing to either the 400m or long jump.

“To do the three sprints, that is the focus(焦点). I don’t want to try any different events at Rio,” he said, “I will just keep my titles to show the world there’s a possibility I can do it again.” The 26-year-old runner insisted he would keep on his hard training.

Bolt also holds the 100m and 200m world records. He added, “It’s all about hard work. I did great when I was young. People used to say I was fast for my age and talent, but I have put a lot of work into it since I was a senior athlete. I continue to work hard, continue to stay focused and push myself. So for me that’s the focus right now—to see how fast I can go and I try to go faster each year.”

Bolt became the first man to keep two Olympic sprint titles in London in 2012. He won the 200m in 19.32 seconds. And he also won the 100m in 9.63 seconds, just 0.05 seconds slower than his own world record.

Bolt’s focus on sprints shows us that it doesn’t matter if we try something different. The most important is to keep working hard.

Going to college means a lot of changes in their lifestyle for most students. Living in a dormitory remains a major challenge as it means learning how to share space with others who are total strangers.

While some can live together peacefully, others may face conflicts (矛盾) that need to be worked out. According to a recent survey of students in 12 different universities in Wuhan, only 40 percent of them are satisfied with their dormitory friendships and 35 percent said they keep away from conflicts in the dormitory.

For those living in a dormitory for the first time, sharing things, such as a computer or paper towels, can be a source of conflict. Another common conflict is related to different habits. What they are going to do, such as going to bed, watching movies or studying, will also cause a conflict. Sometimes roommates may also have problems when welcoming guests, especially those of the opposite sex.

However, there are moreeffectivemethods to solve problems than shouting at each other. The best way is to talk about an issue(争论) before it even becomes a problem. You should treat roommates honestly and directly, and try to work out a solution. And you can also set up rules that everyone can obey. These rules can be written down in an agreement and be put up in a visible (看得见的) place. Students can also outline which items to share and which are for personal use. They can regulate cleaning duties, agree on a time to sleep, and decide on how to receive guests.

In any discussion it is important to talk with your roommates in a positive way. For example, you could mention your roommates’ good personality. This can help them understand you better and make them more willing to compromise (妥协).

A group of Canadian kids are spreading a bit of Christmas spirit in Halifax,Nova Scotia,by covering warm clothes around light poles (灯杆) for the city's homeless people to pick up and use. It was such an unusual sight that locals stopped to take pictures to share on social media (媒体).
Every year,Tara Atkins-Smith collects warm clothes from her community in order to help the less lucky. This year, since the family was traveling to Halifax with their daughter Jayda and seven of her friends to celebrate her 8th birthday Tara thought it was the perfect time to teach the chidren a valuable life lesson.
The kids spent time handing out coats to the homeless and tied the rest around light poles for others to pick up.Each of the clothes had a tag that read,"I am not lost.If you are caught in the cold, please take me to keep warm."According to Tara, the experience helped the children better understand the difficult situation of homeless people, who have to brave the cold winter on the streets."When we got back in the car after an hour on the street, they were all freezing cold and crying for the heater (火炉) to be on because they were cold,"she said.
By next morning, all the jackets, gloves, and scarves on the poles were gone.Photos of the inspriring project have been shared about 8,000times on Facebook, and have got over10,000likes.Tara,who did something similar in Toronto in December last year, says she's already planning next year's coat drive. She hopes that the meaningful thing can spread around the world, and she also wants to add 5 fast food gift card so that the homeless people can also enjoy a hot meal.
"We've got help from others when we were in need, and we knew how great it made us feel,"said Zackary Atkins,Tara's husband.

Last month Hong Kong officers found 131,000 kilograms of broken computers, TVs and phones sent from Japan.
Things like these are called electronic waste, or e-waste. Dealing with it is not an easy job because dangerous poison can be found in it. Every time an old computer breaks down(坏掉), it needs to be dealt with safely. But at present (目前) , broken computer parts are usually buried. It may be hundreds of years before they are really gone in the soil.
Many places in China are polluted by e-waste. Guiyu in Guangdong province is one of them. This town is named a “the e-waste capital of the world”. It has to deal with 1.5 million kilograms of e-waste each year and it takes 75 million years to finish it. Plastic is burned outdoors and chemical water is poured into rivers. Greenpeace, an environmental group, has found the air, the soil and the rivers in Guiyu are badly polluted.
The Chinese government wants the country to develop, but in a way that doesn’t do harm to the environment and people’s life. This year, China passed a new environment protection law, the strictest one we have ever had. Computer companies like Lenovo and Dell will be asked to take back their old computers. This is because the companies that make computers know best to deal with them safely. Hopefully, the problem with e-waste will be solved in near future.

A team of “Chinese Dama” will be invited to perform their square dance in Canada.

Dama is Chinese pinyin that means “older mothers” in English. It refers to a group of women, usually middle-aged or older, who get together in parks or squares to dance to pretty loud music.

Recently 30 Chinese Dama from Guangzhou, China, have received the invitation to Ottawa, the capital of Canada. Last Wednesday, an officer from Ottawa said that more and more Chinese elements (元素) would be added to this year's Canada Day to show the friendship between the two countries.

Ottawa is the place for the county's biggest birthday celebration on July I every year. On that day, people wear their best red and white clothes to take part in all kinds of celebration activities. And these Chinese Dama will dance to Little Apple and the Hottest Ethnic Trend (《最炫民族风》), two of the most popular folk songs in China, on Canada Day.

“The government will hold a big welcome dinner for Chinese guests,” said the officer. “Every Chinese performer will be named the honorary citizen (荣誉市民) of Ottawa.”
