Some teenagers think that newspapers are boring and only for adults. But that’s not true. There are many interesting stories in the paper. You just need to make clear what you are looking at. “I spend about half an hour reading newspapers every day,” said 15-year-old Gao Ming from Beijing. “I’m interested in things happening at school.” School news is just one kind of news story in newspapers. There’s also world news: from international (国际的) problems to pop stars.

Read the newspaper carefully, and we’ll find different kinds of articles on the pages:

News stories—these stories are about events (事件). Reporters try to show all points of a story to help readers understand what happened. Reporters try to speak to as many people as possible. They also use pictures and numbers to show the readers that the stories are true. The newspaper Teenagers has lots of news stories on the news page and front page. When we read them, we learn more about the facts, not the writers’ ideas.

Opinion writing—opinion writing is usually about something happening right now. But it isn’t just facts. Here writers add (增加) their own opinions to the news. Writers pick only the facts that help back their ideas. They make readers believe that they are telling the truth (真相). This is usually the kind of story that gets people thinking. Go to “Speak Out” on Page Two for an example of opinion writing in Teenagers.

Advertisements—Don’t get happy too early when you read them. Those sweet words and lovely pictures are just ways to get us interested in their products (产品)! People have to pay to put advertisements in newspapers!

Google developed a new photo app (应用程序)— Google Photos— for both the iPhone and Android. Recently, the app already has attracted (吸引) 200 million users. In an interview, Anil Sabharwal, who runs Google Photos, suggested ways Google Photos might continue to change and develop.

              Smarter Storage(存储)

One of the app’s main purposes is to help people back up (备份) all of their photos. What’s more, it automatically (自动地) deletes photos you’ve already backed up to free up (释放) space on your mobile phone.“For lots of our users this is so useful because they always run out of space on their mobile phones,” Sabharwal said.

Sabharwal also pointed to a future in which Google might use high technology to decide whether a photo needs to be backed up at all before it’s deleted.

              Google Assistant

Another important feature (特色) of Google Photos is Google Assistant. It will automatically find and group (分组) all your photos of beaches, for example. It will also group people together using face matching (人脸匹配) and people’s names. Then you can search“John at the beach” and find all your photos of John at the beach.

              Smarter Sharing

The last key feature of Google Photos is sharing. The feature is designed so that anyone you share photos with can, in a single click (点击), automatically add those photos to their own mobile phones. Photos can easily be shared to other apps and services, like Facebook or Gmail.

One day Peng Xianzhe learned he would go to theMashan Schoolin Guizhou. The 16-year-old boy tried to imagine how serious the drought (干旱)was for the students at that school. However, he realized it was more serious than he had imagined when he saw the sign“DON’T wash clothes with water,or you will be punished(惩罚).”

Because of drought, the school has been short of water for a long time. Each student has only one bottle of water every day for washing and drinking. The drought has made the poor students much poorer.

Peng is a student from Beijing Chaoyang Foreign Language School. He took part in the school’s Rain & Bow Project from April 2 to 10.

The project idea came from Peng’s principal(负责人). One day, she heard a sad story about Li Guoxian, a poor girl in the Mashan School, who stopped going to school because of drought. The principal started this project to help the school. In one day, 3,000 students made over 10,000 donations(捐献) of water, books and clothes.

Peng and other four students went to the Mashan School and gave the donations with five teachers. They visited poor families, made surveys and had classes at the school.

Ding Zhentao,16,was worried about the school’s poor learning environment. “The blackboards and playground are tooshabbyto use,”Ding said.“Besides, there really aren’t enough teachers. A teacher has to teach both history and English, and even the cook is a class teacher.”

Although life isn’t easy, students at the school have a positive attitude(积极的态度)towards life and they are quite willing(乐意)to learn. That’s what moved 16-year-old Chen Shi most.

“They sang their songs together as usual before class every afternoon. After class, the students asked us to tell them things about Beijing and our studies,” Chen said.“You can see the passion(热情)in them. I believe it will make a difference. Their futures will be bright.”

Can you imagine a pair of shoes that could tie themselves? All you would have to do is put them on and push a button. Well, this idea is becoming a reality. The shoe company Nike created the self-tying shoe!

This idea first came from the movie Back to the Future II, and Nike has been working for years to create a shoe that can do this in real life. They have finally done it with Nike Hyper Adapt 1.0.

So how do they work? According to Nike, the shoe is “powered by an underfoot-lacing mechanism(脚下系带装置)” .This is kind of like a small motor that has the power to lace the shoes.

All the wearer has to do is put them on, and at first, the shoes are very loose. But then you can push the “+” button, and the shoes will tighten to be the perfect fit for the wearer. To take them off, all you have to do is push the “-” button, and the shoes will easily slide off.

But the shoes are battery charged, and for someone who uses them quite often, they need to be charged every two weeks, according to USA Today.

Cristiano Ronaldo, a professional soccer player from Portugal, was a special athlete who got to test the shoes out for himself. He said on the social media site Instagram, “Wow! Thanks Nike for letting me be the first athlete in the world to try the new Hyper Adapt 1.0.”

They haven't been released to the public yet, and the cost of the shoes is still unknown. But you might be able to get a pair of your own closer to the holiday season this year.

The Graham family of Kansas did something very unusual last year. Mr and Mrs Graham did not go to work, and their children did not go to school. Instead, Craig and Marlene Graham and their children, Courtney, 12, and Collier, 4, traveled together in a van(箱式车) and drove across America for a whole year.

First, Craig and Marlene sold their business(生意). Craig had a fruit business, and Marlene owned a small newspaper. Then they sold their large house. Finally, Courtney said goodbye to her classmates, and their dream trip began. The Graham family started their trip on July 4. They visited big cities and small towns in all 50 states. They also visited the birthplaces of all the United States’ Presidents(总统). They wanted to visit many interesting places, parks, and zoos in the United States, but they also wanted to meet the American people. The Grahams had many wonderful experiences. Many people were very friendly and helpful to them. Some people invited the Graham family to stay in their homes with them.

Every day, Marlene wrote reports about her family’s trip. She described the family’s daily experiences, where they went, and what they did. Courtney kept a journal of her life on the way. Marlene and Courtney put their writing on the Internet. Schoolchildren from all over the United States followed the Graham family’s trip by using computers at home and in school. Some children wrote letters to the Graham family. American newspapers carried stories about the Grahams, and people met the family on TV shows.

At the end of the year, Craig said that they all had a wonderful trip. Courtney said that she missed her friends at school, but also enjoyed the trip very much. The Grahams traveled 54,944 miles. They returned home on the same date that they left: July 4. They plan to write a book about their travels to describe everything they learned about their country and the American people.

Last week was Road Safety Week at Jason’s school. All the students had to take part in a talk on road safety which was given by a police officer. The following is what the police officer said.”Most traffic accidents shouldn’t happen. They happen only because people are careless.A frequent cause of traffic accidents is speed. Some people drive too quickly. This means that if they have to stop suddenly .they cannot stop quickly enough to avoid(避免) hitting other vehicles(车辆)or people. You need to remember this when you are crossing the street or walking along the side walk.”

“It’s not only drivers who cause accidents .however .People on foot-pedestrians and bicycle riders often cause accidents .Pedestrians sometimes walk out into the street without looking .You should always look on both sides before stepping into the street.”

Do any of you ride a bike ?Bicycle riders can cause accidents by changing directions suddenly or without warning other road users. Before you turn left .for example .you should check behind you to make sure there aren’t any cars .trucks or buses coming. You should .If clear. The rules of the road are very simple .If we learn them and obey them .we should not have accidents any more.”
