57 countries have joined the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (亚洲基础设施投资银行,简称亚投行,AIIB) till April 5, 2015. South Korea, the United Kingdom, Australia, France, Germany and Italy all became its members. It shows these countries hope to share the results of the development of China and Asia. It also shows that China’s influence(影响) has risen to a new height.

More than 30 years ago, China was among the least developed countries. Since the reform and opening up, China’s economy has developed rapidly. Over the past years, China has surpassed Italy, France, the United Kingdom and Japan to become the world’s second largest economy. At present, China’s GDP is twice that of Japan and 64% of that of the US. China is now one of the two countries with a GDP of more than 10,000 billion US dollars. In 2014, China achieved(达到) 7.4% economic growth, the US 2.4%, the European(欧洲的) area 0.8% and Japan 0.2%. At the present speed, it is only a matter of time until China’s GDP surpasses the US’s.

Are you sorry for not traveling during the National Day? If you stay at home at that time, I think you are very lucky. Why? Because there are too many people everywhere. In many places of interest in China, it's too crowded to do anything.
Look at the picture. It was too crowded on the Great Wall on October 1st, 2013.
You even couldn't take photos for you or your friends. All what we could see were people. It was said that there were about twenty people per meter on the Great Wall.My friends told me they could see nothing but many people on the Great Wall.“We couldn't walk if the people in front of us didn't walk,” he said.He showed us a photo on the Great Wall.In the photo, we hardly found him out, there were too many people.
So some people give the advice that we should not have the gold week (黄金周) any more. But other people say no about this advice. What's your idea of it? Are you sorry now for not traveling during the gold week? I love staying at home more than traveling next National Day.

            • 4. In Canada and the United States, people enjoy entertaining(请客) at home. They often invites friends for a meal, a party or just for coffee and conversation.
Here are the kinds of things people say when they invite someone to their homes: “Would you like to come over for dinner this Saturday night?” “Hey, we’re having a party on Friday. Can you come?”
To answer an invitation, either say thank you and accept or say you are sorry and give an excuse. “Thanks, I’d love to. What time would you like me to come?” or “ Oh, sorry. I’ve tickets for a movie.”
Sometimes, however, people in the west use expressions(语句) that sound like invitation but which are not real invitation. For example, “Please come over for a drink sometime.” “Why not get together for a party sometime?” or “Why don’t you come over and see us sometime soon?” They are really polite ways of ending a conversation. They are not real invitations because they don’t mention(提到、涉及) a certain time or date. They just show that the person is trying to be friendly. To answer expressions like this, people just say, “Sure, that would be great!” or “OK! Thanks.”
So next time when you hear what sounds like an invitation, listen carefully. Is it a real invitation or is the person just being friendly?

The US will have a new president this fall. Voters will decide between the Democratic candidate (候选人), Hillary Clinton, and Donald Trump of the Republicans.

But the voting is not a must for each person in the US. So quite a lot of people choose not to vote (投票), especially the young generation. According to Fox News, one-in-five young voters between the ages of 18 and 35 said clearly that they wouldn’t vote for either of the two candidates. Just 12 percent of voters aged 35-54, and only nine percent of voters aged 55 and older said the same thing.

This is not only because young people don’t like Clinton or Trump, according to the Fortune magazine. The truth is that they are traditionally less likely to vote than their parents.
“Young people are not at an age in their life when they think politics (政治) or government has anything to do with them,” said Rodd Freitag, a political science professor at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, US. “But for the older age groups, they have a home, they pay taxes (税), they care about schools and the community .”

Many believe that the civic (公民的) education of an American youth is another reason why they don’t vote.

Students usually just do community services like cleaning the neighborhoods. This means they haven’t learned how to link real life problems to politics through voting, according to Christopher Beem, a politics professor at the Pennsylvania State University. He said the country needs to help young people learn how to take part in politics and get them to see that they can make a difference.

Do you know about London well? London is a very diverse place. There are over 300 languages spoken by London's school children alone, with many who do not use English as their first or main language at home. London has always been known to be culturally (在文化方面) very mixed (混合的).

The first thing that we did when we came to London was to go to Harrods. Harrods is a huge department store where everything is very expensive. We went to the food court and saw a huge amount of different food from all over the world. I bought an American sort of lunch and when I tried it,I was very disappointed. Although the rest of my family ordered food that was not so American, they were also disappointed at their food.

But Harrods is not only about the food. In fact,Harrods has one of the world biggest collections of clothes in one department store. The clothes were all very in fashion,as well as super expensive. It's one of those stores where if you don't have enough money to buy the clothes, you can look, but can't touch. Even though I couldn’t buy anything,I still enjoyed looking.

The government in China plans to end its one-child policy and let families have two   children instead.

The plan was announced on Thursday after high–level political meetings in Beijing. A Chinese Communist Party statement gave a number of reasons for the change in policy. The statement said the change is meant to balance population development, stop a falling birth rate(出生率) and strengthen the country’s labor force(劳动力).

China, with the largest population in the world, started the one–child policy in 1980. But the government allowed only a small number of couples to have two children. For example, some families in the countryside could have two children, if the first-born child is a girl.

In 2013, the Chinese government gave other couples a chance to have two children if one of them was an only child. Jiang Quanbao, a teacher and population expert, explained how Chinese families react to the newest policy. “Too many young people in the cities are no longer interested in having a second child,” he said. “People in the countryside are more interested. But some of them are already allowed to have two children.”

At the end of 2014, China had a population of 1.37 billion people. A total of 800 million of them have jobs. But the labor market population will drop in 35 years. That is to say, the country will be in great need of labor by the year 2050. With the two-child policy, an increase in births can solve this problem.

Boys and girls, what do you think of the two-child policy? Do you want to have a new-born brother or a sister?

              Two McDonalds

There were two McDonalds – Mac and Dick – and they were brothers. In 1948, they owned a restaurant in California. They liked working in the restaurant, but they got tired of the customers (顾客) ordering so many different things to eat. They decided to give a smaller menu to the customers so that they wouldn’t have to wait so long for their meals. The food could be made before they came. They also began to use plastic plates so that there wouldn’t be any washing-up.

These were such good ideas that the McDonald brothers used them, and the customers were very pleased. They got their meals very quickly---in less than a minute---and they paid only 15 cents for hamburgers and 10 cents for fries. The first McDonald’s restaurant had no seats for customers to sit on. This meant that people had to take their food away, and that no one had to clean up any tables after them?

A man called Ray Kroc came to buy their business. After that, people paid him to open their own restaurants using the McDonald’s name and menu. Before long, there were McDonald’s restaurants all over the United States and now they are all over the world – even in China and Russia.

McDonald’s restaurants are becoming more and more popular. Many parents take their children to McDonald’s at weekends. Children like going there not only for the food, but also the dolls, like the Snoopy dolls and Hello Kitty dolls. Besides, they can also play interesting games there. Maybe that’s the reason why McDonald’s restaurants are becoming more and more successful.

Nothing else is more pleasant than the three words which are”I love you” But can love be bought?I’m afraid not.Love means to givenot to takeTo every person, health and a long life are probably the most precious(宝贵的)things.Well, can health and a long life be bought with money? The answer is“No”.

Of all the longest living people in the world, few of them are millionaires.True friendship can’t be bought either. In a word, where money is worshiped(崇拜),money can cause brothers to quarrel, lovers to hate, strangers to fight and so on.No matter how much money you have,it is still not enough to make you a happy person if you have no one to laugh with,no one to cry for.
