            • 1. This Thanksgiving Day, a new wonderful Disney cartoon, Moana was on in China. It tells a story of a princess(公主), Moana, who has a sailing(航海) trip to save her people.
Her father didn’t agree her trip, but with her grandmother’s help, she decided to start it. She only has two partners, a cock named HanHan and a pig called Pangpang. First, Moana looked for the super hero, Maui, because he stole(偷) the goddess(女神), Te Fiti’s heart. Because of this, the goddess was angry and became a devil(恶魔), which covered the world with black clouds and fire. After Moana found Maui, she boated with him to the open sea and had a difficult experience to give the heart back to Te Fiti. Te Fiti became normal and brought everything back to peace. Moana then returned to her homeland, where everything was back to life and the villagers began their normal life. Moana took her father’s place to be a new leader.

We can learn a lot from the movie. We should be thankful to the earth. If we always get everything from it without stopping, we will be punished(惩罚). We should face our mistakes like Maui and find the true ones for ourselves like Moano.

My father woke me up early one summer morning when I was fourteen and said: "Get up, you're going with me to cut the grass in the garden."

The idea that my father thought f was old enough to help him in his business made me feel proud and excited. From sunup to sundown, my father, my younger brother and I worked in the large garden. By the end of the day I was too tired to say a word but I felt good. This was my first time to help my father in his business. I got $6 for my work that day.

One day my father found some leaves I had missed and pulled me aside. "Take away these leaves!" he said, "and don't make me have to tell you to do it again." The message was clear. Today I value the importance of doing a job well the first time. It will never fail to impress(给……留下印象) the person you are working for.

After two years, my father told me and my brother that he felt we were old enough to cut the grass by ourselves. Every Saturday during my last two years of high school, we set off early in the morning with the same strong wish we had gained while working under our father.

Looking after the garden Was neither exciting nor high paying, but that didn't matter. It taught me that any job was a good job and that whatever I was paid was more than I had before.

A newspaper reporter once asked me how someone could possibly live with hard work and low pay. "If you're only thinking about hard work and money, you probably don't want to do any better than you are doing." I answered. In every job, from cutting the grass to washing dishes, I've learned much. I've learned something that helps me in my next job. If you work hard enough, you can learn from any job you do.

              Take some exercise.

Draw a picture of your anger.

Run around the outside of the house five times as fast as you can.

On my first day in America,I was excited, but nervous as well. My dear neighbor Susan helped me get used to my new life. She visited my new home with a home-made apple pie. She hugged me and said with a big smile,“Alice, I am sure you have never tasted a home-made apple pie before! You are going to love it so much!”To be honest, I was greatly surprised by this welcome from a stranger. And the apple pie made me feel at home.

Susan was very helpful to me. When I was thinking about what to wear on Halloween, she suggested I dress up like a traditional Chinese girl.“I happen to have a traditional Chinese dress and I think I am a great make-up artist!”she said. After an hour of hard work, she pushed me to the mirror to examine our work. The clothes were so beautiful and suited me fine! I was sure that I would stand out among so many people at Halloween. I thanked Susan for her help.

My first Thanksgiving was another highlight. On the festival morning, I was surprised to find a gift box in my front yard. There was a note on it:“Hello Alice, I am the Thanksgiving bunny! Enjoy your gift!”I looked around and caught Susan looking at me from the porch. Susan is such a lovely person.

I saw that the spirit of the Chinese saying, that“Neighbors carry more weight than distant relatives,”is alive and well in America. Susan filled my heart with warmth and joy, just as angels(天使) do.

In the middle of a dark forest, there lives an owl(猫头鹰). All the animals know that he is the wisest among all of them. So they often go to him and tell him their troubles. Then the owl always teaches them what they should do.

One day,a little bird goes up to the owl. She is crying. “What’s wrong with you?”asks the owl.

“I’m not happy at all. “I don’t want to be a bird,” the bird says.

“Why don’t you want to be a bird?” asked the owl.

“I am so small, weak and useless,” she cries.“I want to be big and strong like the lion. He

is very important , but I am not.”

Then the owl whispers(耳语)something in her ear. At once the bird dries her tears and goes away. One week later, the bird came back. “Oh, thank you very much. You are a very wise owl,” she says to the owl.“I am very happy now. Every day,I sit on top of the tallest tree and watch for(监视)lions and tigers. When they come near, I shout at the top of my voice. Then my friend all run and hide. They are very thankful to me. I am useful and important now.”

The wise owl smiles and says,“No one in this world is useless.”

An old woman had two large pots, one on each end of a pole(扁担). She carried the pole with the pots across her neck. One of the pots had a crack (裂缝) in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full pot of water. At the end of the long walk from the well to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half-full.For two years this happened daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water. Of course, the perfect pot was proud. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed (羞愧的) of its own imperfection.

One day, the cracked pot spoke to the woman by the well: “I am ashamed of myself because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house.”

The old woman smiled: “Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot’s side? That’s because I have always known about your crack, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path. And every day while we walk back, you water them.

“For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you are, I would not have this beauty.”

Each of us has our own cracks. But it’s these cracks that make our lives together so interesting and meaningful.

Life is like the four seasons. Now I am very old,but when I was young,it was the spring of my life. I was born,I played a lot,and then I started school. I learned many new things. Like a flower,I grew bigger every day. There were happy days and sorrowful days:some days the sun shone, and some days it didn’t.

In my twenties,I had a good job. I was strong and happy. Then I married and had a child. In those days, I didn’t have much time to think. Every day I was busy and worked very hard. And so,I started to get some white hairs. The summer of my life passed quickly.

Then the days got shorter. Leaves fell from the trees. My child was a university student, and then an engineer. My home was much quieter. I started walking more slowly. One day I stopped working. I had more time. I understood this was my autumn, a beautiful time when the trees change color and give us delicious fruits.

But the days kept getting shorter and colder. Winter has come. I am older and weaker. I know I do not have many days left, but I will enjoy them to the end.

My legs don’t do much because I have a serious disease. They just sit there and look pretty. When people look at me, they only see the chair – my wheelchair. I’ve been in it since I was 3 years old. And it does not matter if I graduate(毕业) at the top of my class and go to law school. To some, I will always be the girl in the chair.

But I don not think of myself as the kid who can not walk. Most of my friends do not even notice the wheelchair anymore. I am just the girl they have been friends with. My friends are good at lifting me in and out of my wheelchair when we go to the movies. We even took the wheelchair to a dance pretty. One of the boys helped me out of the wheelchair and all the girls helped me to fix my dress. Even in the crowded school elevator(电梯), there is always someone around to carry me.

There are a lot of things I can not do for myself, such as dressing myself and feeding myself. Even so, I do very well at school and I always tell myself that I am just like any other kid in my school.

The truth is that my parents raised me to be proud of my disability. There are lots of things I wish I could do differently. I wanted to be a doctor, but there is not going to work out. So I will be a lawyer(律师) instead. I also wanted to dance and play soccer. My parents always teach me to keep this in mind: the illness only affects(侵袭) my body, not my brain. My friend Erica once said to me,” Kennedy, you are not disable. You just can not walk.”

At noon the rush hour had passed. There were few guests in the restaurant. It was not crowed. When the boss was going to take a break to read a newspaper, in came an old lady and a little boy.

“How much is a bowl of beef soup?” The grandma sat down, counted the money in her wallet and ordered a bowl of soup. The grandma pushed the bowl to the little boy, who swallowed his saliva(口水),looking at his grandma and saying, “Grandma, did you really have lunch?” “Of course.” His grandma chewed a piece of radish(萝卜泡菜)slowly. Very quickly, the little boy ate up the meal.

Seeing this, the boss went over to them and said, “Old lady, congratulations, you are lucky to have the free food, for you are our 100th guest.”

Later, over a month or more. One day. the small boy sat across from the restaurant, where he seemed to be counting something, which shocked the boss he happened to look out of the window.

When the small boy saw a guest walk into the restaurant, he would put a small stone(石头)into the circle he drew, but the lunch time had almost passed, the small stones he put into the circle were hardly 50.

The boss was quite worried and called up all his old guests. The guests started coming one after another,”81,82,83…..”The small boy counted faster and faster. At last, when the 99th small stone was put into the circle, the little boy hurried to pull his grandma’s hand and went into the restaurant.

“Grandma, this time it’s on me,” the little boy said proudly. The grandma who had become the real 100th guest was served a bowl of beef soup by her grandson. As his grandma did as before, the little boy chewed a piece of radish in his mouth.

Starling is a little bird. He lives in the forest. His favorite thing is singing. He feels very happy because all the animals love his songs. They say,”Your songs are very lovely and they make us relaxed and happy.”

But one day, another bird comes in the forest. Her name is Nightingale. She can sing softly(温柔地) and sadly. All the animals are moved by her songs. They say,“You are the best singer. Nobody can sing like you.”When Starling knows this, he isn’t happy. Then he thinks hard and has a good idea. Every morning, he gets up early and practices singing skills of Nightingale.

The next month, he sings the songs slowly and softly in front of the animals. But all the animals go away one by one. They don’t like his songs. The frog jumps out and shouts“Stop! Stop! Don’t sing, please!”Starling is so sorry that he wants to cry. He asks,“Why don’t you like my songs?”The frog answers,“Different people have different styles (风格). You needn’t copy others. The right is the best.”
