As the old saying goes,he who doesn’t reach the Great Wall isn’t a true man.The Great Wall is regarded as a symbol of the Chinese nation. It has attracted lots of tourists from all over the world every year. US President Barack Obama visited the Badaling section of the Great Wall in Beijing on Nov. 18th, 2009. The Great Wall was the second sightseeing program for Obama during his first visit to China.

The Great Wall today has become one of themust-seeplaces for visiting foreign leaders to the country in the past sixty years. “ I’m inspired(鼓舞)by the majesty of the Great Wall and gratefu1 for the warmth of the Chinese people,” Obama said after his half-hour tour.

“It's magical,” Obama said when walking along the Great Wall, “it reminds you of the sweep of history and our time here on earth is not that long. We better make the best of it.”

“I brought back the admiration(钦佩) for the Chinese civilization(文明), I bring here the greetings of American people.” Obama said when climbing a watchtower to enjoy a distant view at the Badaling section of the Great Wall.

Obama is the fifth US president to visit the Great Wall. Richard Nixon visited the Great Wall in 1972, Ronald Reagan in 1984 and Bill Clinton in 1998,In 2002, former US President George W. Bush and his wife Laura toured the same sections Obama did.

Scientists believe that music influences the way people behave. They think that the sound of western classical music makes people feel richer. When a restaurant plays classical music, people spend more money on food and drinks. When the restaurant plays modern music, people spend less money. Without music, people spend even less. Scientists also believe that loud, fast music makes people eat faster. Some restaurants play fast music during their busy hours. This makes people eat faster and leave quickly. Restaurants can make more money in this way.
Some scientists think that music makes you think and learn better. They say that music helps students to be more active. It is true that people learn better when they are relaxed. And listening to music can help you relax.
The next time you hear music somewhere, be careful. It might influence the way you do things.根据短文内容,选择正确答案。

Everyone wants to be happy , but few people know how to find happiness, Money and success alone do not bring lasting happiness. I think we should make our happiness by ourselves, Here are some suggestions to help you be happier.

First, enjoy the simple things in life .Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the future –for example , making much money or getting a good job—that we can’t enjoy the present, You should enjoy life’s simple pleasure ,such as reading a good book ,listening to your favorite music ,or spending time with close friends.

Second, be active. When people go dancing or have sports , they can forget about their problems and only think about the activities.

Third, help others. People feel good when they spend their time helping others .If you want to feel happier ,do good things for someone .You cam help a person with his or her studies, buy food for the old and so on.

A man once had a dream(梦) about the Black Forest(森林)in Germany. In his dream he was walking in the forest when two men ran out and tried to throw him to the ground. He ran off as fast as he could, but they followed him. He reached a place, there he saw two roads in front of him, one road to the right and the other to the left. Which road should he take? He heard the two men behind him, getting nearer, and at the same time he heard a voice in his ear. It told him to go to the right, and he did so. He ran on and soon came to a small hotel. He was received(受到招待)there kindly and given a room, and he was saved from the two men. That was the dream.

Twenty years later he was really in the Black Forest and , as happened in the dream long ago, two men ran out and tried to throw him down. He ran off, and came to a place with two roads, like in the dreams. He remembered the dream and took the road to the right. He soon reached a small hotel , was taken in, and so was safe. His dream of twenty years before had saved his life.

Tom and Steve are twin(双胞胎的)brothers. But they have different hobbies. Tom loves to play sports and basketball is his favorite. But Steve loves to read books.

One day, Tom was playing basketball with his classmates at school when he fell and broke his leg. When they took Tom to the hospital, the doctor said he wouldn't be able to play sports for half a year. Steve went to see Tom and brought him some books on basketball. At first, Tom wasn't going to read them because he thought they were not inter esting at all. But he felt really so bored at the hospital that he began to read them. To his surprise, he found that there were ways to teach him how to play basketball better. He began to think that books were not too boring but even helpful(有帮助的)for him.

When Tom's leg started getting better, Steve helped him by going for walks with him. Finally, Tom's doctor said he could start playing basketball again. Then Tom showed Steve how to shout(投篮). Steve found that he also enjoyed it.

Then Tom was ready to join in the basketball games. Steve went to watch the games and enjoyed himself. They then always practiced playing basketball and read books together.

So you can see, when something bad happens, something good may also happen. Steve showed Tom about books and Tom showed Steve about basketball. So you can also try showing others something that you like to do and they can show you something that they like to do. In this way, you can find new things to do.

I’ve loved my mother’s desk since I was just tall enough to see above the top of it as mother sat doing letters. Standing by her chair, looking at the ink bottle, pens, and white paper, I decided that the act of writing must be the more wonderful thing in the world.

Years later, during her final illness, mother kept different things for my sister and brother. “But the desk,”she’d said again, “it’s for Elizabeth.”

I never saw her angry, never saw her cry. I knew she loved me, she showed it in action. But as a young girl, I wanted heart-to-heart talks between mother and daughter. They never happened. And agulf opened between us. I was “too emotional(易动感情的)”. But she lived “on the surface”.

As years passed I had my own family. I loved my mother and thanked her for our happy family. I wrote to her in careful words and asked her to let me know in any way she chose that she did forgive(原谅) me. I posted the letter and waited for her answer. None came.

My hope turned to disappointment, then little interest and, finally peace, it seemed that nothing happened. I couldn’t be sure that the letter had even got to mother. I only knew that I had written it, and I could stop trying to make her into someone she was not.

Now the present of her desk told, as she’d never been able to, that she was pleased that writing was my chosen work. I cleaned the desk carefully and found some papers inside --a photo of my father and a one-page letter, folded and refolded many times.

Give me an answer, my letter asks, in any way you choose. Mother, you always chose the act that speaks louder than words.

Sometimes people asked me strange questions. Whenever kids played games, I was the "monster". I was always imagining that everyone looked down on me.Yet Mum would say to me, "Hold your head up high and face the world." I began to depend on that saying.
As a child, I thought Mom meant, "Be careful or you will fall down or bump into something because you are not looking." As a teenager, I usually looked down to hide my shame . But I found that when I held my head up high, people liked me.
In high school I even became the class president, but on the inside I still felt like a monster. All I really wanted was to look like everyone else. When things got really bad, I would cry to my mum and she would look at me with loving eyes and say, "Hold your head up high and face the world. Let them see the beauty that is inside instead of your appearance ."
My mom's love was the sunshine that made me bright. I had faced hard times, and learned not only to be confident but also to have deep compassion (同情) for others.
"Hold your head up high" has been heard many times in my home.  I say it to my children. The gift my mum gave me will live on .

I learned about life from an ant farm. It was when I was seven years old, my family created one. First, we put clean sand in a thin glass box, and then we waited for the live ants to arrive. Shortly after the ants were dropped into the glass structure, they got to work making tunnels. I was amazed that each of them knew exactly what to do .After hours of staring, I discovered that the ants hadassignedjobs.

With the help of mom, I kept a diary of what happened each day and named the ants. One day an incident struck the ant farm. The pages of the diary, still wrinkled(皱巴巴的)where tear drops fell, indicate the great loss. I had put my face so close to the structure that I accidentally knocked it over and all the tunnels caved in. Although the ants survived(幸存) their earthquake, one by one they began to die.

I was terrified as I watched them give up their tunnel-building to carry the bodies to a corner of the farm. My mom reported that the ants were dying of frustration. They simply could not stand the reality that their tunnels had been destroyed.

Although much time has passed, I still think of that ant farm. Mom had hoped it would teach me about the natural world, but it taught me much more. Over the years, I came to realize the ants were a study in the benefits of teamwork. Working together, they were able to create an amazing world for themselves. I also learned that they should be admired for their hard work. Day in and day out, each worked hard at their task.

The ant farm showed that teamwork and perseverance(持之以恒)are indeed two keys to success. But there was an even larger lesson that I did not realize until recently: Adversity is a natural part of life, and must be accepted. Unlike the ants, humans cannot give up when they face disappointment. Unlike the ants, we have to realize that if a tunnel caves in, we just have to build another. Giving up, I say, is not a choice.

Dolphins talk with sounds. They show their feelings with sounds.

Dolphins travel in a group. We call a group of fish a “school”. They don’t study, but they travel together. Dolphins are mammal(哺乳动物), not fish, but they swim together in a school.

Dolphins talk to the other dolphins in the school. They give information(信息). They tell when they are happy or sad or afraid. They say “welcome” when a dolphin comes back. They talk when they play.

They make a few sounds above(在···上面) water. They make many more sounds under water. People can’t hear these sounds because they are very, very high. Scientists make tapes of the sounds(录音) and study them.

Sometimes people catch a dolphin for a large zoo. People can watch the dolphin in a show. Dolphins don’t like to be away from their school in a zoo. They are sad and lonely.

There are many stories about dolphins. They help people. Sometimes they save somebody’s life. Dolphin meat is good, but people don’t like to kill them. They say that dolphins bring good luck. Many people believe this.
