Thanksgiving Day was near. The first grade teacher asked  (1)  students to draw a picture of something that they were thankful for. People celebrated the holiday  (2)  turkey and other traditional foods of the season. So, most of her students’ pictures were about them.   (3)  , Peter drew a different kind of picture. Peter was a different kind of boy. He always looked sad. Whenhe wasasked to draw a picture of something for which he was thankful, he drew a  (4)   . During the break, all children ran out of the classroom except Peter. The teacher came to Peter’s  (8)  , bent (俯身)down, and asked him whose hand it was. The little boy   (9)  and said in a low voice,“It’s yours, teacher.”She remembered the times she took his hand and walked with him here or there. She often said,“  (10)  my hand, Peter. Once there was a poor woman. She lived by herself in a little house in a village. She didn't have much money   (1)   she was very kind and happy.

When Imet mybest friend for the first time. I was studying for an important oral exam in the library and people there made a lot of noise. The more upset I got, the  (1)  it was for me to stay focused. The worst was that someone was even singing loudly behind me.

   She was so sad that she didn't go any further. Heartbroken, she rode her bike back. As she  (12)  , she saw a sight that amazed her. There   (13)   the valley on the other side was a little house. Its windows glistened（闪耀）golden as the   (14)  shone on her little house.

   She   (15)  hat she had been living in her golden house all along. Everything she dreamed was right there in front of her eyes and in her daily life!

He came to the teacher's office and said," Mother is ill. May I have a day off, sir?" "Of course, you can," replied（回答）the teacher at once.

The boy walked away. And then he   (3)  turned back and knocked（敲）  (4)  the teacher's door   (5)  , "May I have a day off again?" he said.

The teacher was very   (6)  . "Didn't you say it   (7)  ?"

"Yes, sir. But I can't be here the day after tomorrow, either（也）."

The man smiled and said, “OK.”

The man smiled and then said, “My elder son Tommy was killed by a drunk driver last year   (7)    he was riding his bike near here. I never spent   (8)   time with Tommy. I’ve promised that the same mistake can’t happen   (9)   Todd. He wants to have five more minutes to swing. The   (10)   is that I also have five more minutes to watch them.”

An American man, a Russian man, and an African man were all up in a hot-air balloon together. After a few minutes, the Russian man put his hand down through the   (1)  . “Aha!” he said. “We’re right   (2)   my homeland.”

A few hours later the African man put his hand through the clouds. “Aha we’re   (5)   over my homeland.” he said   (6)  .

“How do you   (7)   that?” asked the Russian and the American in surprise.

“Of course I know. I feel hot with my    (8)       inthe clouds. It’s the heat of the desert.”

Several more hours later the American put his hand in the clouds. “Aha, we’re right over New York.”

The Russian and the African were so   (9)   . “How do you know all of that?” they asked in one voice.

The American  (10)   his hand up and said, “Look! My watch is missing.”

Twelve year ago, my sister, a very beautiful girl, was born. _  (1)  _, we were later told that this little girl, who was three and a half months premature（早产的）, would only have 14 days on the earth. It’s hard to understand what kind of _  (2)  _ you have when you find out that you’re  (3)  _ something that you don’t even know.

 Thanks to the guy that I will _(14)_ know, we could take that beautiful baby girl home, and celebrate her 12^th birthday yesterday. I am thankful to this man and feel that his act of _  (9)  _ should be shared with everyone.
