People like dolphins because they are both lovely and clever. They have a(n)   (1)   IQ (智商).Dolphins can ‘talk’. Scientists try to ‘talk’ with dolphins, and the   (2)   make them surprised. They find dolphins may understand them so well.

Most animals enjoy playing, but dolphins like to make their games different. On a beautiful day in 1997, scientists on a beach   (3)   a little dog going into the sea. They were surprised to see the dolphins come up to the dog and then start throwing (扔) it into the air. The dog   (4)   the ‘game’ and kept playing with the dolphins for over an hour.

Dolphins live in  a very different world from   (5)  , but they are very good at our ‘IQ tests (测试)’. For example, in the picture above, a dolphin jumps   (6)   the water when he hears a whistle noise (哨声). He does this because he will get a fish   (7)   an award.

There is   (8)   much to learn about these lovely friends.

I can’t remember when I started collecting litter. But it was when I got tired of   26 litter nearby that I realized no one else was going to pick it up.

I live near a forest inOhio, America. I can walk there 27 three minutes. I used to love going there to play with my dog. But one day there was 28 much litter there that I became very unhappy. I decided to clean up the forest, and I wanted to 29 happy when I went there again. I made my first trip to clean the forest that afternoon. I took a big black rubbish bag with me. Ten minutes   30 I started to pick up litter, my bag was full! There were cans, bottles, broken glass and newspapers in it.

From then on, I 31 to the forest four times a year to pick up litter. I often stay there for three hours. It makes me feel 32 to do something for the environment. After each trip, I look through all the litter that I’ve collected. If 33 of it is recyclable (可回收利用的), I’ll keep it. I can’t understand why people drop litter. But I will keep on picking it up 34 they stop dropping it. I know I am only doing a small bit 35 the earth, but I still think it is important.

How did we help to save our earth this week? Let me tell you.

First, my family tried to save electricity. We never left the lights   (1)   when leaving the rooms. We   (2)   the TV when nobody was watching it. Mum only used cold water in the washing machine.

Second, we started recycling(循环,回收)this week. We tried to write on   (3)   of our paper, not just on one side. We also divided (分成) our rubbish into   (4)   bags for bottles, paper and food. Mum kept the plastic shopping bags from the supermarket to use them again as rubbish bags.

Third, my family started to save   (5)  . We stopped   (6)   long baths and had short showers   (7)  . We washed the toilet with used water. Mum and dad used less water to do the washing. My sister and I didn’t leave the tap running when we brushed our teeth.

At last, mum and dad began to save gas. Mum used to   (8)   us to school, but now my sister and I started riding our bikes to school. It’s hard work   (9)   good exercise! This week dad and a few of the people in his company also started to go to work in one car and share the   (10)  .

These are great ways to help protect our environment.

A thousand years ago Hong Kong was covered by a thick forest. As more and more people came to  (1)  in Hong Kong, these trees were cut down and burnt. Now there is  (2)  forest left, though there are still some small areas covered with trees. We call these woods.

Elephants, tigers and many  (3)  animals were living in the thick forest. When people came to live in Hong Kong, the  (4)  began to die out. Early farmers grew rice and  (5)  pigs and chickens in the valleys. They cut down the trees and burnt them. They needed  (6)  to keep themselves warm in winter, to cook their food and to keep away the dangerous animals. Elephants quickly disappeared because there was not enough food for them.  (7)  did most of the wolves and tigers. Monkeys and many other animals soon     (8)  in the same way.

You might think that there are no longer any animals in Hong Kong  (9)  in the zoos. But there are still about 36 different animals  (10)  there. One of the most interesting of Hong Kong’s animals is the barking deer. These are beautiful little animals  (11)  a rich brown coat and a white patch under the tail. They look like deer but they are much smaller. They are less than two feet  (12)  .They make a noise rather like a dog  (13)  .In Hong Kong the barking deer has only a real enemy—  (14)  .People hunt these little animals though it is illegal. There are now not many barking deer left. So it is important  (15)  people to protect wild animals.

When you go to the seaside, maybe you will notice(注意) that the wind very often comes from the sea to the land in the  (1)  part of the day, but in the evening, the wind blows in the opposite direction(方向).Why does this happen?

In the morning, when the sun   (2)   ,it begins to warm the land   (3)   the se a. The land  (4)   warm faster than the sea. So while the air above the sea is cool ,the air over the land   (5)  warmer. The air   (6)  the land rises and the cool air from the sea moves   (7)   the land.

When evening comes,   (8)  the sea and the land become cool, but the land cools more   (9)   than the sea. The wind now changes   (10)   direction.

Trees in the Amazon rainforest(雨林) are showing scientists the past so the scientists can learn what will happen in the future.

Have you ____  (1)  ____ tree rings? Some trees create rings every year ____  (2)  ____ they grow. These rings can be ____  (3)  ____ in tree trunks(树干) when the trees are cut down. A tree's _____  (4)  ___ can tell us how old the tree is, but UK scientists have ____  (5)  ____ a way of learning about the climate of the rainforest in the past from the tree rings.

Growing in the Amazon rainforest, some trees only have short roots. It means that the trees depend on rainwater, ____  (6)  ____ the water that is naturally deeper underground. So the rings of the tree trunks help scientists understand the rainfall(降雨量), ____  (7)  ____ the climate of the Amazon rainforest over the last 100 years. What scientists want to know, however, is how the rainforest will be ____  (8)  ____ by the world's rising temperatures. Will it become wetter or drier? The Amazon rainforest is ____  (9)  ____ the "lungs of the earth" for the trees there take in a lot of carbon dioxide (CO2) and produce oxygen every day. A warming world could have a very bad influence on the important forest. But ____  (10)  ____ more information about the past, scientists hope to know what one of the most important rainforests in the world will be like in the future.

Some scientists say our clothes are so powerful that they can change our feelings.  (1)  , we can control our feelings   (2)   different colors of clothes.

Normally when we are sad, we will wear dark colored clothes. On the other hand, when we are happy, we often choose to wear   (3)   colored clothes. This is because these clothes can make others   (4)   how we are feeling. It seems to say, “I’m upset, Don’t trouble me!” or “Today I’m pleased and easy-going.” Of course, we also know that some people like   (5)   different colors because of their likes or dislikes.

Some people   (6)   these words. They often say, “If only this truly worked.” Well, in answer to those people, there are a lot of studies about what happens to   (7)   feelings. If he is sad, ask him to wear red or orange clothes. He will become   (8)   and happy very soon. If he is happy and excited, ask him to wear blue or black clothes. He will become quiet or peaceful a few minutes later. It proves that if we wear special colors of clothes, it can change our feelings.

Suppose we are feeling sad, if we are in black, we may begin to feel   (9)  . However, if we are in red or yellow, it can make us feel a little better.

So remember, if you are not feeling your best, you can try wearing some different colored clothes. If one color has no effect on your feelings, maybe   (10)   will. Each color has its own power.

            • 8. Some western countries believe strongly that   (1)  is one of the world’s biggest greenhouse gas emitters(温室气体排放者). But in fact   (2)  our government has already taken action actively to struggle(斗争) with climate change.
Firstly, the public   (3)  to pay more attention to the environment. As the government expects, people   (4)  a very high level of knowing low-carbon economy(低碳经济).   (5)  you watch TV,listen to the radio or read newspapers, you will find low-carbon lifestyle has become a   (6)   . Secondly, developing renewable energy is another action. The government is building many wind farms and solar power stations(太阳能电站) in the deserts(沙漠). Of course, within a long time, China will continue using the coal.   (7)  , the government has been making laws(法律) to punish those people in some areas   (8)   dare(敢) to destroy the environment.   (9)  , some scientists have suggested that greening the deserts is more important than   (10)  new forms of energy. Their   (11)  research shows that 80% of the  in the atmosphere(大气) comes from land use.
As we know, China hasn’t achieved a   (12)  between the green lifestyle and the economic growth(经济增长), but we will take more action to   (13)  the greenhouse gas emission(温室气体排放).
So from now on, everyone else,   (14)  our students, should care about the environment, try our best to protect it, such as walking more to school instead of taking the bus, reusing the paper, turning off the lights when leaving the room, and   (15)   water while taking the showers or washing hands.
Everyone gives a little love, the world becomes beautiful.

We can not stop earthquakes(地震), but we can do things to make sure they do not destroy(破坏)whole cities. First, it is not a   26   idea to build houses along the lines where   27   of the earth's plates join together. Second, if you think there  28   be an earthquake, it is better to build houses on rock, not on   29 . Third, you must make the houses as   30  as possible. Weak buildings will fall down in an earthquake, but strong ones may   31 .

Scientists were   32  that one day an even bigger earthquake would hit the part around San Francisco. They call it “the Big One”. However, people today are still building more   33 . The population in and around San Francisco is   34  ten times more than it was in 1906. This means that   35   there is another earthquake a great many houses and buildings will be destroyed.

Now more and more people get to know the importance of doing sports. It can bring fun  (1)  us and it can also make us   (2)  .    (3)  what should we do?

First, we should choose(选择) our favorite ones from  (4)  kinds of sports. The sports must be right for us.

Second, we must warm up(热身) before   (5)  .

Third,   (6)   a beginner, you had better have an exercise plan. For example,   (7)   are you going to exercise each time? How many   (8)   a week? If you're a   (9)   of sports, it's important to know this.

Last but not least, you had better not exercise if you feel   (10)  , or it will be very dangerous.
