For example, on Tiananmen Square in Beijing, there is chewing gum (口香糖) in almost every corner. And newspapers show photos of a child peeing (撒尿) outside a restaurant at Hong Kong Disneyland. In foreign countries, things are sometimes even worse.

Primary and junior high school students in France will no longer be allowed to use mobile phones in school.

On Dec10,2017, France’s Education Minister(教育部长)Jean- Michel Blanquer said that mobile phones will be banned from schools in France. This rule will go into effect(实施)in September 2018.

Children will be allowed to bring their phones to school, but will not be allowed to use them at any time until they leave school, even during breaks and lunch time.

Many Chinese people who have been to the United States think that Americans pay a little part of their money for food each day. Yet, in the latest 13 years, food prices have gone up 30% for most American families. Everyone agrees that the cost of feeding a family has risen sharply. But who is really responsible(有责任的)?

Many people say the farmers who produce the vegetables, fruit, meat, and eggs are responsible. But farmers say that the rise in food prices is very small compared to (和…相比) the rise in their cost of living. Farmers think middlemen have got much more money than they do. Middlemen are those people who stand between the farmers and the people who buy and eat the food. For example, truck drivers, owners of food stores and so on. Are middlemen really responsible for higher food prices?

Economists(经济学家)don’t think so. They have found that the money that meat packers and food stores get is less than 1% in all. They say that food costs more now because modern housewives have jobs outside the home. They have less time for cooking after a day’s work. They like to buy food which has already been prepared before it reaches the market. They want to buy many kinds of food that can be put on their dining tables easily and quickly. But of course they must be prepared to pay for the services of those who make their work easier.

It seems that the answer to the question of rising prices is not an easy one. Quite a number of people share the responsibility for the sharp rise in food costs.

              (1) Farmers speak for themselves because _____.

              A. the middlemen have had the biggest share of profit(利润)

              B. the cost of their products have risen sharply too

              C. their cost of living has gone up a lot, too

              D. they’ve got very little in the rise of food prices

              (2) Economists blame (责怪) _____.

              A. farmers B. middlemen C. housewives D. storeowners

              (3) What’s the writer’s opinion?

              A. He agrees with the economists.

              B. He doesn’t think farmers are responsible.

              C. He thinks the middlemen might get a lot of profit.

              D. He thinks all those people should be responsible.

A lot of kids dream of becoming Internet stars. Every day, they post videos online and hope to become the next Internet stars.

Kids who find success online don’t always have special talents. Lis Marie Johnson once posted a funny video of herself eating something. More than a million people watched it! Should you try to become an Internet star? The followings may help you decide.

Bethany Mota is one of YouTube’s biggest stars. She was 13 when she started posting videos about clothes and more. Today, she’s 20, and she has over 9 million fans.

There’s another benefit to being an Internet star. “I’m my own boss.” Bethany said.

On the other hand, putting videos of yourself on the Internet can be hazardous . Being bullied (欺负) online is one of the biggest risks.                 Becoming an Internet star isn’t easy, either. In fact, very few people make any money on the Internet. And making videos takes a lot of time and hard work. Seeing the wise fish had left,Jimmy thought,"My guide has gone and now I've lost my chance to escape."He felt sorry for it and then thought,"What can I do to save myself from these men and their nets?Perhaps I should pretend(假装)to be already dead, giving myself totally to the water."So he did that.He went up and down with the water, helpless, within arm's reach of the fishermen.
"Look at this! The best and biggest fish is dead."One of the men lifted him by the tail, and threw him up on the ground. He rolled(滚动)over and over and moved secretly toward the water, and then, back in.
The third fish was aimlessly jumping about, trying to escape with his speed and cleverness. The net,of course, finally closed around him,and as he lay in the hot frying-pan bed,he thought,"If I get out of this,I'll never live again in the limits of the lake.Next time, the ocean!I'll make it my home."

What would the world be like if cars could drive themselves?Imagine seeing an empty car passing by on its way to pick up its owner,or a car full of passengers who are reading, listening to music or even sleeping. But none of them are worried about the road ahead.
Well, all of this could be the future of driving. There are several companies, including Google, working on driverless cars.So far,no Google self-driven car has gotten a traffic ticket, but some of them have been in accidents when other cars hit them.
These cars are now still in the testing stages. But,if the tests are successful, these electric self-driven cars could be put into use very soon.
The cars already have many features(特点)allowing them to take the place of drivers during certain situations. Some features include cars being able to park themselves,or slow down when they notice objects close by.They can also control the speed if there are dangerous conditions.
Scientists and engineers believe, with the help of wireless(无线电的)signals, cameras and GPS,we are now at a stage where creating a safe self-driven car might be possible.
The cause of deadly road accidents is usually careless drivers or dangerous conditions. The self-driven car may be able to prevent these. However, some people do not like the idea.American lawyer Whit Drake, for example, doesn't believe these cars are safe.He thinks that technologies can also be mistakes.

On Aug.8th, after learning that she got a new personal best in the women’s 100m backstoke(仰泳) semifinal in Rio, Fu said, “I’v already ….used my prehistorical powers (洪荒之力).”And when being asked about her expectations about the final the next day , Fu Yuanhui, “I don’t have many expectations. I am satisfied about myself.”

Fu’s straightforward(直率)and happy personality won her millions of fans on the Internet overnight. People call her the “Prehistorical Girl”

“‘Prehistorical Girl’and the netizens who appreciate her have taught all of us a lesson: Sport is about the struggle and , especially, enjoyment, but most definitely not about gold,”wrote People’s Daily in a commentary on Aug.9th.

Winning used to be everything for China’s Olympians. Athletes who get gold have fame and fortune(财富), while those who disappoint often get ignored or even criticized.

Hurdle champion Liu Xiang became a national hero at the 2004 Athens Olympics. But four years later at the Beijing Olympics, when an injury forced him to give up just before running his first race, he was bitterly criticized.

Now , China is ready to welcome a sports star without a gold medal. “Public attitudes toward competitive sport and the Olympics have lifted to a higher level,” commented People’s Daily.

“As we mature(成熟) in mentality, learn how to appreciate competition , and become able to calmly applaud(喝彩) our competitors, we’d show the confidence and tolerance(宽容) of a great country,” said CCTV in its weibo post.

In almost every big university in the United States, football is a favourite sport. American football is different. Players sometimes kick the ball, but they also throw the ball and run with it. They try to take it to the other end of the field. They have four chances to move the ball ten yards(码). They can carry it or they can throw it. If they move the ball ten yards, they can try to move it another ten yards. If they move it to the end of the field, they receive six points(点).

It is difficult to move the ball. Eleven men on the other team try to stop the man with the ball. If he does not move the ball ten yards, his team kicks the ball to the other team.

Each university wants its own team to win. Many thousands of people come to watch. They all shout for their favourite team. Young men and women come on the field to help the people shout more. They dance and jump while they shout. Each team plays ten or eleven games each season.

The season begins in September and ends in November. If a team is very good, it may play another game after the season ends. The best teams play again on January 1, the first day of the New Year. Many people go to see these games and many others watch them on TV.

Research says that husbands do not do their fair share of work around the house. A study from an American university says that men seldom do the same share of housework. Researchers interviewed 182 working couples who became first-time parents. Both husbands and wives worked almost the same number of hours in full-time jobs. However, men did five hours a week less housework than women after their baby was born.

It is a different story for mothers. Becoming a parent added 21 hours a week to a mother’s work. Most of this was looking after her baby. New fathers did not do more work because they did not realize the mother was doing so much more. Another reason is that after a baby is born, fathers follow the “traditional” roles. That is, the mother looks after the baby and the father works outside. This happens even when the mother is working the same number of hours in her job.
