With the holidays coming up, lots of people will be having parties. Want to make sure you’re a perfect host(主人)or guest(客人)? Now it’s a good time to brush up on your party manners.

When inviting guests to your party, send invitations to their homes instead of passing them out at school. This way, you won’t hurt the feeling of classmates you didn’t invite.

(1)Wait for all your guests to arrive before starting any activities. If people at the party don’t know each other, make sure you introduce everyone.

If your guests bring gifts for you, thank each gift----giver as you open his/her present. After the party, be sure to send a hand-written thank-you card to each guest, telling them how much you appreciate their gifts.

When you receive a invitation to a party, be sure to let the host know whether you can come.

Arrive on time. Bring a gift to a birthday party. (2)If(如果) it’s a holiday party, ask the host if (是否)there’s anything you can bring. Adults often bring a desert or a bottle of wine to a party, even when the host tells them that he/she doesn’t need anything. Young people don’t have to do this, but it’s always polite to ask.

Be friendly to the other guests. Remember to say “Please” and “Thank you”! When you leave, thank the host for the party.

As space science develops, man has learned more and more about space. Space is not only amazing but also dangerous. While working in space, spacemen are facing danger as well as access.

Scientists have found out that radiation(辐射) is the greatest danger to spacemen in space. When spacemen are working in space, they are in danger of radiation from the sun and other stars, which is bad for their health. The damage done by radiation won't be discovered until their children or even grandchildren are born. Some special medicine may work a little, but no really helpful medicine has been found.

(72)Space junk is also thought to be a great danger to spacemen. It's reported that there are 9,000 man-made things flying in space. About 30% of these are man-made satellites(卫星), 10% are spaceships, and the rest are space junk. An explosion(爆炸) in 1999 made a cloud of 300,000 fragments(碎片), each at least 4mm in size, and even a small piece of these knocked against a spaceship window and did some damage. Scientists are watching and reporting any possible danger all the time. They are working on helpful ways to deal with space junk.

Although space is really dangerous, (73)it interests everyone on the earth. In the near future, it may become usual for people to spend a few days in a space hotel. We may even choose to leave the earth and live in space in a few years. So we should care for space and do something to help improve the space environment.

              (1) According to the passage, about______ of man-made things in space is space junk.(填数字)

              (2) Translate the underlined sentence into Chinese.

If you spend some time in an English-speaking country you might hear the term “etiquette”. It means normal and polite social behavior. (3)This may seem like a difficult word at first, but it can be very useful to understand.

Etiquette is not the same in every culture or in every situation. For example, standing very close to the person you are talking with is quite common in some Asian countries. However, if you do this in Europe, some people might feel uncomfortable. Even in China,we all know that etiquette is not the same in all situations. Perhaps we think that talking loudly in our own homes is fine, but there are other places where talking loudly is not allowed. For example, most people would agree that talking loudly in a library, a museum or a movie theater is impolite. Even if you are with your friends, it is better to keep your voice down in public places.

If we see someone breaking the rules of etiquette, we may politely give them some suggestions(建议). One of the most polite ways is to ask someone, “Would you mind doing this? “or “Would you mind not doing that? “People don’t usually like to be criticized, so we have to be careful how we do this.

(4)Although rules of etiquette can often be different, some rules are the same almost everywhere in the world! For example, dropping litter is almost never allowed. If you see someone you know doing this, you can ask him, Would you mind picking it up?

              请根据短文,回答下列问题。

              (1)

What does the word “etiquette” mean?
