As our country develops, we must remember the responsibilities of caring for the weakest members.

Her small hand seemed lost in Grandma’s as they walked along the road leading back home.

“Shall we rest for a   (1)  ? It’s too hot!” the young girl said. “Let’s 　  (2)  　over there under the tree.” Grandma said. Resting under the tree, they　  (3)  a butterfly nearby. “Do butterflies feel hot?” she asked.

Grandma thought for a while and said, “I think they keep very 　  (4)  　.”

“I wish I were a butterfly,” the child said. Then she began to flap (拍动) her 　  (5)  　. “But that takes a lot of work!”

“You wish for a lot of things, child,” Grandma said.

“Yes, I do.” she said. “I wish I had 　  (6)  　I wanted.”

“Do you get all your wish for all the time?” Grandma asked.

“What happened to him?” Grandma asked.

How often do you let other people’s rude actions change your mood*? Do you let a bad driver or an impolite waiter make your day in a mess? They’ll pour it on you  (10)   you let them. So when someone wants to pour it on you, don’t feel hurt. Just smile, wave, and move on. You will be   (11)   .”

  I started thinking: how   (12)   do I let Garbage Trucks run right over me? And how often do I take their garbage and   (13)   it to other people? Then I knew clearly what I should do.

I began to see Garbage Trucks. I see the   (14)   moodpeople are carrying. I see them coming to pour it. And   (15)  my taxi driver, I don’t feel hurt. I just smile, wave, and move on.

One Friday night, a poor young man stood at a gate of the railway station, playing his violin. Many people put money into the hat  (1)   in front of him.

The next day,   (2)  young man came to the gate of the railway station again, and put his hat on the ground. But  (3)  what he always did in the past days, he took out a large piece of paper and laid it on the ground. It said, “Last night, a gentleman named George Sang put an important thing into my hat  (4)  mistake. Please come soon, Mr. Sand.” After about half an hour, a middle-aged man ran to the young man  (5)  and said “It’s you! You do come here. The earth is our home. We must take care of it. Life today is easier than it was   (1)   years ago, but it has brought some new problems. One of the biggest problems is pollution. We can see it, smell it, drink it and even   (2)   it.

Man has polluted the   (3)  . The more people, the more pollution. Many years ago, the problem was not so serious because there were not so   (4)  people. When the land was used up (用光) the river was not clean in a place, man went to   (5)   place. Now man is slowly polluting the whole world.

But even in developed countries, most people don’t go to work by bike. It’s not   (12)  bikes are expensive or people are tiered if they ride to work. We should have special roads only for bikes and make it  (15)  difficult and expensive for drivers to take their cars into the city that they will go back to use their bikes.

When I first moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in the fourth grade, I realized that I was stepping into a completely different world. What impressed me deeply was the friendliness of the people there.

“What can I get for you, honey?” a(n)   (1)   asked me on my first day in Louisiana. I was   (2)  . This woman did not even know me, and yet she   (3)   me like family. She smiled down at me as I   (4)  the food on the menu.

“Is the pasta(意大利面) good?” I asked her.

I recently went to the DMV to update my driver’s license. As I was   (9)   in the silent room with at least twenty other people, a woman walked in.

“Good morning!” She announced to the room.

“Good morning,” the whole room said back at once.

The woman took her seat, and waited with everyone else for her number to be   (10)   as I looked around the room, surprised. Suddenly, everyone was comfortable with each other. We were all friends and neighbours.

Even after eight years of living in Louisiana, it   (11)   makes me smile to know that I am not   (12)   here. Someone in this place is always   (13)   to say hello or to lend a hand when it is   (14)  . It is a sense of family and   (15)   that I have never been able to find anywhere else.
