My phone rang this morning. When I picked it up, I heard the sweet voice of a young lady.

“Are your dogs missing?” she asked.

I realized that it was my neighbor. So I went to find my dogs quickly. After I   (1)  that they were all there, I was very happy. Then I answered to my neighbor, “Thank you.  (2)   of them are missing.”

My neighbor is a nice lady. She often makes cookies and shares them with neighbors. She is willing to help anyone   (3)  . Today she found two small dogs walking down the street. She took them in.

“They are good and get along well with my dogs,” she continued.

“You did the right thing. Most people wouldn’t get involved in (卷入) the kind of thing.” I said. “ I wonder how many cars passed them by this morning and didn’t   (4)  stopping.”

Then I walked out of the house to see if someone had come to look for those dogs. But I found nothing.

Then an idea came to me. If I were   (5)   I would hope that someone would look for me. If I were crying, I would hope that someone would stop and speak to me. So, ask yourself today. Would you take in the dog? Would you look for a lost friend? Would you offer a kind word to   (6)   a stranger?

When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practise by   (3)   it often. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough chance to become strong.

If someone says that his arms and legs are weak, we know that it is his own fault(责任). But if he   (4)   us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents are to blame(责备).But   (5)   of us know that it is just his own fault, too.

Have you ever found that some people can’t read or write but usually they have       ___(6)___ memories? This is because they cannot read or write and they have to remember things. They cannot write them down in a little notebook. They   (6)   remember days, names, songs and stories, so their memory is always being exercised. As a result, they have a better memory.

We are living a fast life. It seems that  (1)  has to be fast, for example, fast food, fast Internet, fast roads, fast money. Every day we try to get things done   (2)  but there are some moments that we have to slowdown and enjoy our lives.

We are always  (3)  every day. I have to work eight hours or more a day at my full-time job. When I get home, itˈs always over seven oˈclock. I make an effort to   (4)  something. I try to find a little time for my hobby--writing. But I hardly ever write or work  (5)  weekends. Because those are my days to try to recharge (休整) and reduce (减少) the stress from my work. I sleep on the sofa during the day,   (6)  some tea in the open air or go out for a picnic if the weather is nice.

What Iˈm trying to say is this: if you donˈt take some time to slow down once in a while and  (7)  your life, it will pass you by. You can be unhealthy both in body and mind if you donˈt take the time to relax. So this weekend, donˈt make any    (8)  . Just get up on Saturday morning  (9)  your body says itˈs time to get up.                    It will   me a lot of time to learn enough Chinese characters (汉字). But I think there are many advantages of spending time    the language. One big advantage is that it makes me see things from a different point of view,      Chinese is such a different language from English.

I think for American students the most important advantage is that learning a different language can open up their mind.
