There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to judge things too quickly. So he sent them to go and look at a pear tree far away in turns.

The first son went in winter,,the third in summer, and the youngest son in the①fall.

When they had all gone and come back,he called them together to describe what they had seen.

The first son said that the tree was ugly. The second son said no. It was covered with green leaves, and full of hope. The third son disagreed. He said there were many flowers that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful,it was the most wonderful thing he had ever seen. The last son disagreed with all of them. He said there was lots of fruit in the tree, full of life and harvest(收获).

The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, but they had each seen only one season in the treeˈs life. He told them“You cannot judge a tree,or a person by only one season and its true nature-the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life can only be judged at the end, when all the seasons are up.”

If you give up when itˈs winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer, harvest of your fall. Donˈt let the pain of one season kill the joy of all the rest.

(1)Why did the man ask his sons to go and look at a pear tree in turns?

I am a clever girl at school. I can speak English very well. My classmates always ask me how to learn English. OK. Let me tell you. Speaking, listening, and writing are very important.

If you want to speak English well, you shoulder fast and loudly. If you do this for a long time, you can speak English like an English student.

If you want to be good at English, you can’t ignore(忽视) listening. When you talk with others, you should listen to them carefully. At the same time you should listen to your teacher carefully in class and talk with your classmates in English after class.

Writing is also important. When you learn a new word, you’d better make a sentence or more. That can help you a lot.

You can find it easy to learn English well if you follow the ideas.

Will books be replaced by the Internet?

Every morning, my father buys a newspaper on his way to work. Every day, I open my books in class and start my lessons. Every evening, my mother looks through magazines at home. And every night, I look at the photos of Kobe Bryant and Yao Ming on my bedroom wall before I go to sleep.  (1)

Paper was first created about 2,000 years ago in China. After its invention, people started to write on paper to make books. In those days, books were only produced one at a time by hand.  (2)   So, few people had the chance to learn to read.

Printing was invented in China during the Sui and Tang Dynasties (朝代). Later, developments in printing made it possible to produce books more quickly and cheaply. A trade in books resulted, and more people learned to read.   (3)    In a way, we can compare the invention of paper and printing to the introduction of the Internet in the twentieth century.

                   (4)   A lot of information can be stored (存储) in different forms on the Internet than in books. And the machines that we use to read it are now small and light, often smaller and lighter than a single book, so they are easy to carry.

Computers and the Internet are used in classrooms now, and newspapers and magazines are already read online.   (5)   Will books be replaced by the Internet? Let’s wait and see.
