“The child has become part of the management of family life,” says Adele Schwartz, research director for Stars for Kids, a children’s market-research firm. “This is a big role change in family life. Housework is changing. It used to be to take out the rubbish and walk the dog. This is a little bit bigger than that.”

Three-quarters of students between the ages of 8 and 14 say they have completed an online transaction (交易), according to a national survey on May 9. Nearly one-fourth of the 6,000 young people asked say they shop with their parents’ credit cards, 26 percent use gift cards, and 8 percent say they use their own credit card. Almost half say they help with electronic transactions because their parents are helpless online. One-third help because their parents don’t have enough time to shop.

“Kids do a large amount of comparison shopping,” Ms. Schwartz says, “including clothing, household items, family vacations, and even large items like a car.”

All this cyber-help “clearly gives kids a power that they might not have had before,” says Gary Rudman, in San Francisco. “Parents still make the decisions, but kids have more and more effect than ever before, because they have access to information. They are more involved with the household (家庭), so they have more effect on some of the decisions.”

Parents have different opinions about letting their children use credit cards online. Mr. Rudman Says, “Some parents are open to it, others are not for it.”

Like many parents, Mrs. Hanstein keeps a watchful eye on Jacob’s Internet use. “He loves to order something, but it’s always with our guidance. He doesn’t understand that a lot of the pop-up advertisement ‘You’ve won this’ or ‘You can get this for $1.’is a scam (骗局).”

One of the most exciting and attractive fields of work today is the fashion industry. One of the most famous places to study is the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. It is located in the heart of the “garment” district on Eighth Avenue, also known as Fashion Avenue. 
  Becoming a fashion designer is not just a matter of classroom education. Students know that they cannot just leave school and start designing on their own. Many think that they need at least four years’ experience working for someone else after they graduate. The best schools encourage students to work closely with the fashion industry while they are still studying.
  You need ambition and hard work to get a career in fashion. Students often work 12 hours a day. They are encouraged to have realistic ambitions and not to expect success overnight, if ever. Success means finding a job in the fashion industry and more years of hard work.

     Credit cards first became popular in the 1920s, At that time, businesses, such as hotels and companies, gave credit cards to their best customers . Unlike today's credit cards, customers could only use these cards at the store or business that gave out the card. Customers had to pay for things in full. They couldn't pay for something a little at a time.
     In 1950, a businessman named McNamara started a credit card company - Diners Club. Unlike earlier credit cards, this card could be used by customers at many restaurants. Customers liked the card because they didn't have to carry a lot of cash with them. Restaurant owners liked the card, too. Why? They found out that customers usually spent more money when they could pay by credit card.
      In its first year of business, Diners Club issued 200 cards, The customers who got the cards from the Diners Club could use them at 27 different restaurants. Today, Diners Club has about 8 million customers, and they can use their cards in over 7. 6 million businesses in more than 200 countries.

Someone asked, “What has the greatest strength on earth?” The answer varied. However, all the answers turned out to be wrong at last. The most powerful thing on earth is the seed of a plant. The great strength which a seed is capable of is simply matchless.

Here goes a story: The bones forming a human skull(颅骨) are so tight and perfect that all the physiologist and anatomist(解剖学家), hard as they try, are powerless to take them apart without damaging them.
