Imagine being given the opportunity to wake up to lions, eat your meals with monkeys, and even share your bath with bears, all from the comfort of a unique new lodging experience. The Jamala Wildlife Lodge opened its doors in January 2015, which was set up in an effort to educate visitors about aiding the survival of many of the worldˈs endangered species. “Itˈs great for the animals; theyˈre going to get more space. Itˈs great for the viewing public; theyˈre going to get more things to see. It will be great for tourism and just for the local community,” said Richard Tindale, the owner and operator. Spreading across three locations in the National Zoo, the 18 rooms, which range from giraffe tree houses to jungle bungalows, offer a fantastic experience with wildlife.

              The Giraffe Treehouse

The Giraffe Treehouse is set among the giraffe enclosures (围场), and the Jungle Bungalows are luxurious individual suites which are next to either lion, cheetah(猎豹), brown bear, or Malaysian sun bear enclosures.

              The Ushaka House

Housing up to 26 people, the Ushaka House is built around the monkey enclosure and has a builtin aquarium which offers private views of some of the zooˈs sharks.

              The Burley Griffin House

Only meters from the edge of Lake Burley Griffin, the indoor and outdoor entertaining areas have splendid views across the lake to Black Mountain.

              The Shark House

The Shark House has its own little jetty(码头) and it comes out over the shark tank here and so the people who stay in the room will be able to go to their bedroom and pat the shark.

              Location

Located in the heart of Australiaˈs political capital, the Jamala Wildlife Lodge at the National Zoo and Aquarium is just ten minutes from Canberraˈs central Business District.

FromBritainto the Middle East and China, engineers and architects are trying their best to create the biggest and the best. Here are recently-selected seven wonders-to-be in the modern world which are near completion. Among these, Beijing Daxing International Airport ranks the first and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge ranks the third.

              No.1 Beijing Daxing International Airport,China

Beijing Daxing International Airport, which is set to be the biggest airport in the world, is designed by Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid. The new Terminal One will have a radial-like plan, designed to reduce passenger travel distances. The construction of the new airport started in 2015 and it is planned to be put into use in 2019.

              No.2Kingdom Tower, Jeddah,Saudi Arabia

Adrian Smith, the architect who has designed the highest structure in the world, the 829.8 m-high Burj Khalifa in Dubai, is now working on his new project which will smash his own record by this over-a-kilometer-high Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. No one can be sure about the exact date of its completion but most probably the project will be ended in 2019.

              No.3 Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, China

At about 50 km long, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge will take the title of the longest water span in the world from anotherChina’s bridge in Jiaozhou Bay. The construction started in 2 009 and will complete the first session(期间)in 2017.

              No.4 Chernobyl reactor, Ukraine

The engineers of the USSR who fought to bring the Chernobyl disaster under control built a concrete sarcophagus(石棺)to cover the hole that had opened up above the destroyed reactor. A new steel arched structure is being built, to be rolled on rails over the reactor, from which point demolition work can begin using cranes(吊车)suspended from the new roof. Most possibly it will be finished in 2020.

              No.5 Hotel Abraj Kudai, Mecca

Every hajj, Mecca receives more than two million pilgrims(朝圣者)from all over the world. New buildings are being built to accommodate these pilgrims. The Abraj Kudai cluster of towers will hold more than 10,000 hotel rooms. It is expected that the construction work will be put an end to in 2017.

              No.6 Crossrail, London

Crossrail is built to link east and west London through the sewers, cables, and the city’s foundations. After its completion in 2017, it is expected to alleviate traffic jams in London.

              No.7 Grand Stade FFR, Paris

Grand Stade FFR is designed especially for the French Rugby Federation. The stadium can accommodate 82,000 fans and is dotted with retractable(可收起的)pitches (a marked out area of ground on which a sport is played). A retractable roof apparatus(仪器)is capable of turning the stadium into a giant interior. Hopefully the fans can gather there to watch thrilling matches in 2018.

              Saturday, March 24th

We have arrived in the hot, wet city of Bangkok. This is our first trip to Thailand(泰国). All the different smells make us want to try the food. We are going to eat something special for dinner tonight. The hotel we are staying in is cheap, and very clean. We plan to stay here for a few days, visit some places in the city, and then travel to Chiang Mai in the North.

              Tuesday, March 27th

Bangkok is wonderful and surprising! The places are interesting. We visited the famous market which was on water, and saw a lot of fruits and vegetables. Everything is so colorful, and we have taken hundreds of photos already! Later today we will leave for Chiang Mai. We will take the train north, stay in Chiang Mai for two days, and then catch a bus to Chiang Rai.

              Friday, March 30th

Our trip to Chiang Rai was long and boring. We visited a small village in the mountains. The village people here love the quiet life—no computers or phones. They are the kindest people I have ever met. They always smile and say “hello”. Kathy and I can only speak a few words of Thai, so smiling is the best way to show our kindness. I feel good here and hope to be able to come back next year.

Vanuatu is an island nation in the South Pacific. It’s one of the smallest countries in the world. But for those who are interested in adventure and sport, there’s a lot to do. Vanuatu’s islands offer visitors two of the most exciting and dangerous activities in the world: volcano (火山) surfing and land diving.

              Volcano Surfing

On Tanna Island, Mount Yasur rises 300 meters into the sky, which is an active volcano, and erupts (爆发) almost every day, sometimes several times a day. For centuries, people have climbed this mountain to visit the top. Recently, people have also started climbing Yasur to surf the volcano. In some ways, volcano surfing is like surfing in the sea, but in other ways it’s different. Volcano surfers try to escape the erupting volcano—without getting hit by flying rocks! It’s fast, fun and dangerous—the perfect extreme sport.

              Land Diving

Most people are familiar with bungee jumping, but do you know bungee jumping started on Pentecost Island in Vanuatu and is almost fifteen centuries old? The activity, first called land diving, is part of a religious (宗教的) ceremony. A man ties tree vines (树藤) to his legs. He then jumps head—first from a high tower to touch the earth with the top of his head—without breaking the vine. Every spring, island natives (men only) still take part in this amazing activity.
