What's it like to be a popular teen author? We asked Amelia Atwater-Rhodes.author of In the Forests of the Night to find it out.

How do you come up with your ideas?

I start with a minor character, and then expand on that character. In the first book,I just wrote some flat characters to pass the time.Eventually,I wanted to know more about the characters I’d created. The first things I wrote weren’t very good.but they did get me to start writing, which was important.

              How has your writing evolved?

Every book I write,I get more into it.History is one of my passions(酷爱)right now.Sometimes I'll take inspiration from characters in Ancient Egypt,Rome,or Mesoameriea. My first characters were flat, but now they're like my best friends.

How did you feel when your book was first published?

It came as a shock. The first time I saw my book in print I could barely believe it.I had to tell myself,“This is real.I'm not dreaming.”

What does your writing space look like?

I mostly write on the computer in my room.I can write anywhere as long as it’s quiet.I also do writing in notebooks.

How do you make time for your writing?

Writing is one of those things that you will make time for if you want to do it.When I have something to write,I'll need to write it.If you love writing, you will make time for it.

Do you think reading helps writing?

Definitely. When you read, you get used to visualizing things in print.I'm not a big television fan,so I have always spent a lot of time reading. You learn to see things in words. You figure out how to express yourself in words. You learn the basics, and then get the ideas for your writing.

What's your advice for aspiring(有志向的)kid writers?

Go out and do it.Find other people who write.Keep at it! You can always edit.Every author is his or her own worst critic. If you love to write, just do it.

              Dear Mom and Dad,

The time has come: I’m graduating, and I thank you both for all your help during these15 years. I still remember when you used to say, “You can be whatever you want” I’m so glad you are my parents, especially when I hear kids say they don’t get on well with theirs. I’m glad that you support(支持) me when I decide to do anything. You always try to help, and that’s important to me.

Dad, I remember when you first took me fishing. I loved going even though I also remember when you would get angry with me. I realize you were only trying to show me the right way. When I would cry, you would always be there to try to cheer me up. That’s what I call a good, loving, caring dad.

Sometimes you and Mom don’t agree with me, but you are there by my side in anything that I do, and that’s why I love you both so much.. Mom, I enjoy going out with you and having our happy time every Friday night, and I hope that never changes. I love telling you everything; the best part about you is that you listen. I’m glad that we do a lot together. You love to have fun, and

Dad does, too. You always give me your opinion and I listen.

Thank you for bringing me up.

                                                                             Love always,

                                                                             Allison

Like most new fathers, Samuel Forrest was excited to meet his son, but he had no idea just how much that first meeting would change his life.

On 21 January, baby Leo was born with Down’s Syndrome(唐氏综合症).

“They took me in to see him and I looked at this guy and I said, he’s beautiful, he’s perfect and I’m absolutely keeping him.” Forrest told ABC News.

But Forrest’s wife did not share the same feelings. She reportedly gave Forrest a deadline, saying if the father wanted to keep the baby, she would divorce him.

Forrest, fromAuckland,New Zealand, said he was unaware that hospitals in Armenia “will tell you that you don’t have to keep babies with Down’s Syndrome.”

He’s now planning to raise Leo by himself as a single father back in his native country of New Zealand, where he can be near friends and family for support.

The new father has created a GoFundMe page called “Bring Leo Home” to collect money for the costly move.

“This really happened to me unexpectedly,” he told ABC news. “ I don’t have a lot. I have very little in fact.” The goal is to raise enough for a year so I can get a part-time job so Leo doesn’t have to be in daycare and I can help care for him.”

ABC News spoke to Leo’s mother Ruzan Badalyan who said that she did have a child with Down’s Syndrome and that she had left her husband. She declined to comment further.

The father’s GoFundMe page has already raised over $175,000 in just nine days. The page now states that additional funds will be given out to charity.

“We’d also like to share the extra money with the only orphanage in Armenia that regularly takes abandoned Down’s Syndrome babies as well as other organizations that can help these children,” it says.
