We awoke on a lovely morning.I cooked breakfast outside and we ate comfortably.I very rarely have breakfast at home, let alone a cooked breakfast, but there's just something about having a cooked breakfast when we are away in the caravan(旅行拖车).
We decided to go in the direction of St Margaret's Bay today, and had lunch down there after having a drink in"The Coastguard".My wife and daughter went for a short walk along the front while I sat on the front taking in the sea air.The weather was unbelievably warm-I got a foldup chair out the back of the car and was quite happy sitting out on the seafront.
Later we drove up to the National Trust area-"White Cliffs",where we spent a little time looking around, and enjoyed cakes and a drink in the cafe.I had to say,as National Trust cake goes, this was not up to their usual standards and I was slightly disappointed.
Before returning to the caravan for tea,I thought it would be a nice idea to try and find a shop that sold cheese made by the Snowdonia Cheese Company.I tried this cheese at a stand at the NEC Exhibition just a week or so ago and really like it.After searching the company website for suppliers, somewhere in a layby,we found a place listed for Dover,so we went off in search.Unfortunately, the store was out of stock so we decided to ring around.
It was still warm enough to eat tea out in the awning(凉篷),after cooking outside for the second time today on the Cadac. We sat out in the awning for a while after our meal, before eventually retiring into the van to watch TV.

What should you think about in trying to find your career? You are probably better at some school subjects than others. These may show strengths that you can use in your work.A boy who is good at mathematics can use that in an engineering career.A girl who spells well and likes English may be good at office work.So it is important to know the subjects you do well in at school. On the other hand, you may not have any specially strong or weak subjects but your records show a general satisfactory standard.Although not all subjects can be used directly in a job, they may have indirect value.Knowledge of history is not required for most jobs but if history is one of your good subjects you will have learned to remember facts and details. This is an ability that can be useful in many jobs.
Your school may have taught you skills, such as typing or technical drawing, which you can use in your work. You may be good at metal work or cookery and look for a job where you can improve these skills.
If you have had a parttime job on Saturdays or in the summer, think what you gained from it.If nothing else, you may have learned how to get to work on time,to follow instructions and to get on with older workers. You may have learned to give correct change in a shop, for example.Just as important, you may become interested in a particular industry or career you see from the inside in a parttime job.
Facing your weak points is also part of knowing yourself. You may be all thumbs(笨拙) when you handle tools;perhaps you are a poor speller or cannot add up a column of figures. It is better to face any weakness than to pretend they do not exist.Your school record, for instance, may not be too good, yet it is an important part of your background. You should not be sorry for it but instead recognize that you will have a chance of a fresh start at work.

              (1) The writer thinks that for a student to have a parttime job is probably ______ .
              A. a waste of time that could have been spent on study
              B. useful for his future work
              C. the only way to earn extra money
              D. a good way to find out his weak points
              (2) According to the passage,if a student's school record is not good,he ______ .
              A. will be a complete failure in his future work
              B. may not find a suitable job
              C. will regret not having worked harder at school
              D. may do well in his future work
              (3) Which subject is supposed to have no direct value for jobhunting according to the author? ______
              A. Mathematics.
              B. English.
              C. Technical Drawing.
              D. History.
              (4) The whole passage is mainly on ______ .
              A. choosing a career according to what one is skilled in
              B. acquiring knowledge by working hard at school
              C. finding one's strong and weak points
              D. developing one's abilities useful in school work.

We are all called upon to make a speech at some point in life, but most of us don't do a very good job. This article gives some suggestions on how to give an effective speech.
So,you have to give a speech-and you are terrified. You get nervous, you forget what you want to say,you stumble over words, you talk too long, and you bore your audience.Later you think,"Thank Goodness,it's over.I'm just not good at public speaking.I hope I never have to do that again."
Cheep up!It doesn't have to be that bad. Here are some simple steps to take the pain out of speech making.Ask yourself the purpose of your speech. What is the occasion? Why are you speaking? Then, gather as many facts as you can on your subject.Spend plenty of your time doing your research. Then spend plenty of your time organizing your material so that your speech is clear and easy to follow.Use as many examples as possible, and use pictures, charts, and graphs if they help you make your points more clearly.Never forget your audience. Don't talk over their heads, and don't talk down to them.Treat your audience with respect. They will appreciate your thoughtfulness.
Just remember:Be prepared.Know your subject, your audience, and the occasion.Be brief.Say what you have to say and then stop. And be yourself.Let your personality come through so that you make person-to-person contact with your audience.

If I left the decisions up to my daughter, she'd never play competitive sports. In her first season of forced sports, when she was four years old,she cried every time she kicked the soccer ball. She stopped on the way from the parking lot to the soccer field, wailing that her legs hurt. And worse, she cried,"I'm sweating!"
A few years have passed, and she just completed her fourth soccer season. She's starting her second year of softball.Sports trophies (奖杯) line her window platform.
I learned from the years of football, soccer and baseball in my son's youth that kids need to experience being on a team, and they might not beg you to sign them up.You might have to force it on them.
They need to learn about sacrificing, and about commitment. If you read parenting articles out there, you'll find plenty of folks who shy away from competitive sports because they want their kid to always feel like a winner.I don't know what kind of idyllic (田园的) life these parents must be leading, but in my world,I'm thinking I need to sign my kids up for something that will teach them about life's devastating disappointments.
Hence,I think my daughter picked up some good life lessons when her team lost almost every game in the last season.Sometimes life is like that.Sometimes you get a bad call, the people on your team suck, you're tired and don't feel like playing, the coach is mean to you, someone scratches your face and steals the ball. And the next week, you put on your uniform, and try your best.
