I took the Harvard Summer School program during my summer vacation. I really  (1)  the chance to learn there, which  (2)  my horizons greatly. As all   (3)  I took were humanities-related, I  (4)  much time to reading in Harvard’s libraries. I enjoyed myself  (5)   I was there, either doing research for my papers or enjoying special edition books that had been  (6)   over time.

When the library first came into   (7)  , I looked at it with respect and was deeply   (8)  by its neoclassical design. The design is inspiring. It occurred to me that   (9)   as Greek temples were houses of gods, the library was a temple of   (10)  .

On opening a pair of heavy elegant metal doors, I was   (11)   in warm light. Fascinated(入迷的),I wandered around the   (12)   library, finding one treasure after another. One that   (13)   caught my interest is the donor Widener. He was crazy about  (14)   rare old books, and one of his most precious collections immediately got my   (15)  . A 500-year-old book quietly   (16)   its golden letters. This book represents Harvard’s   (17)  as a guardian of, and contributor to, the long history of thought.

Harvard’s library is rather   (18)  . One can hear the rustling (沙沙声)of pens on paper as countless students study   (19)   inside it. For me, the library, as well as the courses,  (20)  Harvard’s place as the home of committed scholars.

But English will continue to remain __40__ and important.

__41__,British language scholar David Graddol says __42__ will probably drop in dominance(主导) by the middle of this century to __43__,after Chinese, about equally with Arabic,Hindi, and Urdu.“The number of people speaking English as a  __44__ language continues to __45__,but it isnˈt rising nearly as fast as the __46__ of many other languages around the world, simply __47__ the main population group has been largely in the __48__ developed countries __49__ languages other than English have been spoken,”he says.

Body language is the quiet, secret and most powerful language of all !It speaks   (1)  than words. According to specialists, our bodies send out more  (2)  than we realize. In fact, non-verbal communication(非言语交际) takes up about 50% of what we really  (3)  , And body language is particularly  (4)  when we attempt to communicate across cultures(文化). what is called body language is so  (5)  ,a part of us that it's actually often unnoticed。And misunderstandings occur as a result of it   (6)  , different societies treat the  (7)  , between people differently. Northern Europeans usually do not like having  (8)  , contact(接触)

even with friends, certainly not with  (9)  . People from Latin American countries  (10)  , touch each other quite a lot. Therefore, it's possible that in  (11)  . it may look like a Latino is  (12)  a Norwegian all over the room. The Latino, trying to express friendship, will keep moving  (13)  . The Norwegian, very probably seeing this as pushiness, will keep  (14)  which the Latino will in return regard as  (15)  .

Clearly, a great deal is going on when people  (16)  And only a part of it is in the wards themselves. And when parties are from   (17)  cultures, there's a strong possibility of   (18)  . But whatever the situation, the best  (19)  is to obey the Golden Rule: treat others as you would like to be  (20)  .

The most unforgettable thing during my long summer holiday last year, of course was my trip   (1)   England. This was my first time to go abroad, so it really made me   (2)  .

There are quite a lot of interesting places in England,   (3)   Oxford. When we walked around Oxford, we saw quite a lot of ancient buildings on   (4)   sides of the streets. One of the most famous tourist   (5)   in Oxford is Christ(基督) Church, and it’s   (6)   one of Oxford University’s 29 colleges. There is a huge hall in Christ Church,   (7)   was used as the dining hall at Hogwarts in the Harry Potter   (8)  .

I felt really excited when I heard this.

                (9)   place that impressed me   (10)   during my trip was a place called Stratford-upon-Avon. It is a small town. Maybe you haven’t   (11)   it, but I’m sure

you have heard about William Shakespeare and it’s the great man’s   (12)  . In Stratford-upon-Avon, I could   (13)   Shakespeare’s birthplace, Shakespeare Countryside Museum, the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, and a lot of places that are connected with   (14)

I went to Shakespeare’s birthplace. It was the house   (15)   Shakespeare was born and   (16)   his early years.  (17)   sitting room, hallway(走廊), bedrooms, and kitchen were furnished(布置) in sixteenth-century   (18)  . I also went to see the Shakespeare Exhibition. It illustrated(以图解说明) Shakespeare’s life and career in both Stratford and London.

I really enjoyed this nice trip to England,   (19)   I learnt a lot. I’m very happy that I could visit such an interesting   (20)  . I want to go there again in the future.

The ability to forgive (原谅) others is a great thing that can certainly help to make life happier for everyone. However, some people think that it is very   (1)   to do, and they don’t know how to forgive others, especially their family and friends. This is   (2)   they don’t understand the meaning of “forgiveness”.

In the dictionary, “to forgive” means “to   (3)   feeling angry with somebody that has done something bad to you.” I’m happy to   (4)   that many people around me have succeeded in doing this. I have succeeded, too, and I know how hard it is.

I lived with a friend for two years. During that time, he caused me many   (5)  . I easily got angry when speaking to him. But we talked about our problems in the end. When he   (6)   that I wasn’t treating him like a friend, I was   (7)  . I never knew that I also needed to be forgiven for doing something wrong. Though I might get very angry, I did love my friend deep in my   (8)  . Then I understood the saying, “To love is to forgive.” And   (9)   we forgave each other, we felt great. After that long talk, we both forgot those bad moments and our friendship became fresh again.

Now I understand what forgiveness means to me   (10)  , I think.

Life becomes easier when you learn to accept an apology you never got. I’ve always tried to keep my   41   from people who are rude, aggressive and mean. But sometimes we   42_  become tied to people who might not have our best   43   at heart.

Last summer, I became involved with a(n)   44  coworker who was at a bad spot in his life. I had a lot of   45   for him and decided to help him   46   this tough time, so I tried my best to    47    his rudeness when he lost his temper. However, just like a swimmer drowning in a pool, he grabbed on and ended up drowning me when I reached out and tried to   48    him. His rudeness gradually was out of   49  . One night, when I got up to get a glass of water, he started yelling at me to get back into my bedroom. I did as I was told but I was not happy about it. He   50   my shift in mood and asked what was wrong. But when I told him his behavior toward me was   51   and that I was very hurt by the way he had treated me, he was   52    . He could not understand his actions had   53  influenced me. He told me he didn’t have anything against me that there was no need for me to    54   it. I used examples from his life of things that had hurt him and then tried to make the   55  that the same things also made me    56   . I said, “I always treat you with compassion, patience and understanding, but you haven’t treated me with   57   respect.” He was silent after listening to my words. What I had said might   58   him.

People only change if they want to change. I didn’t know whether he would change his    59   or not in the future, but I would continue to   60    him through my patience, understanding and kindness.
