SAN FRANCISCO—A phone app(应用程序)in San Francisco gives information about open parking spots.City officials in San Francisco introduced the app to try to reduce traffic jams in the city, but some say it raises safety concerns.

In this city, drivers searching for parking spots lead to 30 percent of all downtown jams, city officials think. Now San Francisco has found a solution — a phone app for spot-seekers that shows information about areas with available spaces. The system, introduced last month, relies on wireless sensors(感应器)fixed in streets and city garages that can tell within seconds if a spot has opened up.

But the system could come with serious consequences. Some people say that drivers searching for parking could end up focusing on their phones, not the road.“It could be really distracting(使分心的),” said Daniel Simons, a professor of psychology at the University of Illinois.

City officials admitted the hidden problem. They are urging drivers to pull over before they use the city’s iPhone app, or to do so before they leave home. Nathaniel Ford, executive director of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, said safety could actually improve if drivers quickly found a spot instead of circling and getting frustrated.

San Francisco has put sensors into 7,000 parking spots and 12,250 spots in city garages. If spaces in an area open up, the sensors communicate wirelessly with computers that in turn make the information available to app users within a minute, said Mr. Ford, of the transportation agency. On the app, a map shows which blocks have lots of places (blue)and which are full(red).

More than 12,000 people have downloaded San Francisco’s app, which is available now only for the iPhone.

"My dear Mr. Bennet," said his lady to him one day, "have you heard that Netherfield Park is rented at last?"

Mr. Bennet replied that he had not.

"But it is," returned she, "for Mrs. Long has just been here, and she told me all about it."

              Mr. Bennet made no answer.

"Don’t you want to know who has taken it?" cried his wife impatiently.

"You want to tell me, and I have no objection to hearing it."

              This was invitation enough.

"Why, my dear, you must know, Mrs. Long says that Netherfield is taken by a young man of large fortune from the north of England, that he came down on Monday to see the place, and was so much delighted with it that he agreed immediately with Mr. Morris, the owner of Netherfield, and some of his servants are to be in the house by the end of next week."

              "What is his name?"

              "Bingley."

              "Is he married or single?"

"Oh! Single, my dear, to be sure! A single man of large fortune; four or five thousand a year. What a fine thing for our girls!"

"How so? How can it affect them?"

"My dear Mr. Bennet," replied his wife, "how can you be so tiresome! You must know that I am thinking of his marrying one of them."

"Is that his design in living here?"

"Design! Nonsense, how can you talk so! But it is very likely that he may fall in love with one of them, and therefore you must visit him as soon as he comes."

"I see no occasion forthat. You and the girls may go, or you may send them by themselves, which perhaps will be still better; for, as you are as handsome as any of them, Mr. Bingley might like you the best of the party." said Mr. Bennet.

"My dear, you flatter(过分夸奖)me. I certainly have had my share of beauty, but I do not pretend to be anything extraordinary now. When a woman has five grown up daughters, she ought to give over thinking of her own beauty."

"In such cases, a woman has not often much beauty to think of."

"But, my dear, you must indeed go and see Mr. Bingley when he comes into the neighbourhood."

"It is more than I engage for, I assure you."

"But consider your daughters. Only think what an establishment it would be for one of them. Sir William and Lady Lucas are determined to go, merely on that account, for in general, you know they visit no new comers. Indeed you must go, for it will be impossible for us to visit him, if you do not."

How to save money to visitShanghai Disneyland?

The “happiest place on earth” is a top destination on many familiesˈ bucket lists. But taking a vacation to Disney World can be difficult to do on a budget. There are some considerations that you can make to reduce the cost of your Disney World vacation.

              1   Buy Souvenirs in Advance

Disney has influenced practically every industry, which makes it easy to find Disney items anywhere, from Wal-Mart, Target, and your local grocery store to department stores and Amazon. You can save a lot of money by purchasing items before your trip at these less-expensive places than atDisneyland.

              2  Make an Autograph Book

An autograph book is seen as a must-have by manyDisneylandenthusiasts and is a memory you can take home with you. These books can cost anywhere from $7.95 to $19.95 at the Disney Store and up to $30 for the latest-and-greatest autograph book at Disneyland, such as the parkˈs 60th anniversary edition. Other choices can get the job done for under $5. For example, you can buy a small photo album; cute pads or notebooks.

3   Eat Breakfast Before You Arrive

Breakfast is almost as pricey as lunch or dinner if you eat inside theDisneylandparks. If you have a hotel with a free breakfast, take advantage of it. If you want to eat out, eat at a local restaurant that is inexpensive or has a kidsˈ menu, such as McDonaldˈs which is close to the park.

4    Take Advantage of Discounts Offered to Special Groups

Disney offers a wide variety of discounts, including for military service members, college students, teachers, and youth groups. If you think you might qualify for a special discount or group rate, call the Disneyland Resort to book tickets.

With the Rio Olympic games going on, cupping(拔罐)is becoming well known all over the world.

Cupping comes in several forms. With dry cupping, therapists(特定疗法的技师) use cups that stick to, but don’t break, the skin. They can use cups with mechanical devices, such as hand or electrical pumps, to create suction(吸). Or they can use fire cups, which use their heat for suction.

In wet cupping, a therapist will first puncture the skin using what looks like a toothbrush with little needles; the suction cups slowly fill with blood.

The basic idea is that creating bruises(淤青)will encourage the body to heal more quickly in those targeted areas.

Whether you’re a world-class athlete competing in the Rio Olympics, or a journalist, back and neck pain can be real occupational hazards(职业病困扰).

To treat their sore muscles, U.S. competitors like famous swimmer Michael Phelps and gymnast Alex Naddour have all turned to an ancient form of treatment called cupping.

The technique involves placing small glass cups on the skin, then pulling them from the body to relax the muscles and boost blood flow.

The suction cups leave behind circular bruises, like the ones Phelps showed off on Sunday night in the men’s freestyle relay finals.

While cupping is a relatively common pain treatment in Eastern cultures, it’s still a rare and little-studied practice in the United States.

But with Olympians showing off their purple discs like gold medals, cupping could soon be very popular with athletes, desk jockeys and other Americans suffering bone, joint and muscle pain, said Dr. Charles Kim, a specialist at New York University’s Langone Medical Center.

“Perhaps something like this will open up the American public and maybe encourage further research and oversight of cupping as a potential(潜在的) treatment,” he told Mashable.

Indonesian authorities have found more than 650 seriously endangered pangolins(鲮鲤) hidden in freezers (冰柜) in a house, police said on Friday. The house owner could face five years in prison and a fine of 100m rupiah ($7,500) for breaking wildlife protetion laws.

A total of 657 pangolins, known as “scaly anteaters (穿山甲)”, were found wrapped in plastic and stored in five large freezers when the police raided(突然袭击)a house in Jombang district on the main island of Java after Iocal residents became doubtful about the large number of freezers in the house.

The house owner, a 55-year-old man, who was arrested(逮捕)durng the police raid on 15 August, insisted he hadn’t sold any of the pangolins and refused to tell the police where they were to be sent, the spokesman said.

“The suspect insisted the pangolins were not his, a friend asked him to store the animals because he has freezers,” Yuwono said, adding that the police were searching for the friend named by the suspect.

Protection group the International Union for Conservation of Nature classifies the pangolin species found in Indonesia as seriously endangered. However, many people seize (捉) them at the risk of breaking the law. Pangolins are consumed as a luxury (奢侈品) in China and other parts of Asia for their meat and skin. The meat is considered a delicious dish, while the skin is used in traditional medicine and to make fashion items such as making boots and shoes.

Dangerous as they are, extreme sports remain appealing among many Australian young people! Camp Xtreme is the perfect test of your heart.

              Kite surfing

Itˈs the exciting mixture of kite, board and waves. The idea of using a kite to accelerate speed seems like a new challenge, yet the art of kite flying dates back to the 13th-century China when it was used as a simple means of transport.

Catch a wind and youˈre moving up, down and across the surf. “Itˈs always exciting. Youˈd jump 5 feet or 35 feet. You never know if youˈre going to go up in the air, and your heart is just going boom, boom, boom.”

              Coasteering

It is by far the best activity and the event that everyone is still talking about. This is exploring the coastline without worrying about a coastal path or finding a rocky bay blocking your route. You climb, dive and swim from one place to another. With coasteering, you donˈt have to be able to swim as the wet suit and buoyancy(浮力) aid will keep you floating when you are in the water.

              Sky diving

Traditional parachuting(跳伞) doesnˈt sound risky enough. So now sky diving is the name for jumping from a plane and listening to your heart beating heavily as you move fast towards earth before you open your parachute at the last moment.

              Mountain biking

Itˈs been around so long that bikers are no longer satisfied with just going up and down a mountain. Mountain biking is a sport which consists of riding bicycles off-road, often over rough land, using specially adapted mountain bikes. Mountain bikes share similarities with other bikes, but include features designed to improve strength and performance in rough areas.
