I believe different people have experienced different adolescence.I must admit I was still an angry  (1)   in my first year of college. My   (2)   was that my parents didn't please me at all.

Our finances were   (3)  , so I chose to go to a (n)   (4)   college and take a bus to classes every day. One day I had a(n)  (5)  fight with my father. We both exploded into shouts.I   (6)   out of the house and missed my bus to school.

I rushed all the way to school. As I   (7)   across the campus toward my class, I suddenly realized I didn't have the  (8)   that was due: a thought card.My professor asked us to   (9)   an index card with our names and the dates every Tuesday.   (10)   what was on the rest of the card, we could write a thought, a question or something else.

Now, outside the door, ten minutes later, I took an index card.   (11)   to write something

on it, I could only think about the  (12)   I'd just had with my dad.I wrote “I am the son of an idiot!”,then  (13)   into the room, and handed it to our professor.

Next day, our professor   (14)  the thought cards and I   (15)   he wrote, “What does the ‘son of an idiot’ do with the rest of his life?” The professor's innocent-seeming question   (16)  me to the issue: whose problem is it?   (17)  , my thinking began to shift.I realized that I had created a life  (18)   I was not a central figure!

The   (19)   of growth wasn't easy or fast.   (20)   later, from a struggling student, I became a successful student and then a successful teacher.

The requirements for high school graduation have just changed in my community. As a result, all students must  (1)  sixty hours of service learning,   (2)  they will not receive a diploma. Service learning is academic learning that also helps the community.   (3)   of service learning include cleaning up a polluted river, working in a soup kitchen, or tutoring a student.   (4)  a service experience, students must keep a journal and then write a   (5)   about what they have learned.

Supporters claim that there are many   (6)   of service learning. Perhaps most importantly, students are forced to think   (7)   their own interests and become   (8)   of the needs of others. Students are also able to learn real-life skills that   (9)   responsibility, problem-solving, and working as part of a team.  (10)  , students can explore possible careers   (11)   service learning. For example, if a student wonders what teaching is like, he or she can choose to work in an elementary school classroom a few afternoons each month.

                (12)   there are many benefits, opponents(反对者)   (13)   problems with the new requirement.

First, they   (14)   that the main reason why students go to school is to learn core subjects and skills.

Because service learning is time-consuming, students spend   (15)   time studying the core subjects.

Second, they believe that forcing students to work without  (16)   goes against the law. By requiring service, the school takes away an individual’s freedom to choose.

In my view, service learning is a great way to   (17)   to the community, learn new skills, and explore different careers.   (18)  , I don’t believe you should force people to help others – the   (19)   to help must come from the heart. I think the best  (20)  is one that gives students choices: a student should be able to choose sixty hours of independent study or sixty hours of service. Choice encourages both freedom and responsibility, and as young adults, we must learn to handle both wisely.

A group of graduates got together to visit their old university professor. The conversation soon turned into  (1)  about stress in work life.    (2)    his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned  (3)  a large pot of coffee and a variety of  (4)    —porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain-looking, some expensive, some exquisite – telling them to help
                 (5)  to the coffee.
When all the students had a cup of coffee  (6)   , the professor said, “If you   (7)  , all the nice-looking expensive cups have been   (8)    , leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is  (9)    for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and   (10)  .

What all of you really  (14)  is coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the  (15)  cups…And then you began eyeing each other’s cups.
Now consider this: Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and  (16)   in society are the cups. They are just   (17)  to hold and contain life, and the type of cup we have does not define,   (18)  change the quality of life we live.  (19)   , by focusing only on the cup, we fail to  (20)  the coffee. Therefore, don’t let the cups drive you…have a good taste of the coffee instead.”

The Gift of Love and Forgiveness

Each year as the holidays approach, it’s easy to become lost in the commercialism of the holidays and to forget their real meaning and purpose.   (1)  , there is meaning and purpose all around us, and sometimes we just need to take the time to look for it. We can also give the holidays meaning by what we do. It can be as   (2)   as a note, a call, or a small act ofreaching out in love that can positively   (3)   another person and bring many blessings to you.

I recently heard a story about the power of   (4)  . A therapist(治疗专家) at a   (5)   living community — let’s call her Anne — addressed the   (6)   of forgiveness in a discussion group around Thanksgiving,   (7)   that we need to let go of mistakes we have made and forgive both ourselves and those who have   (8)   us. The next day, a(n)   (9)   resident came to Anne and said she felt   (10)   during the holidays, because she had been estranged(疏远了) from her   (11)   for more than 10 years. Anne’s talk about forgiveness had touched her heart,   (12)   now, she wanted to   (13)   to them. So, Anne helped her make a card and send it to her family members.

A week later, the resident returned,   (14)   that she had not received a response to her note. But shortly after, in walked a young man, her great-nephew, whom she had not seen since he was a little boy,   (15)   by her nephew, the boy’s father. The resident was so excited to see both of them. They   (16)   each other and spent hours reconnecting. They left with a promise to stay   (17)  .

Four years ago, in that same spirit, I   (18)   a nonprofitorganization ---Wish of a Lifetime (WOL),with the goal of helping to change the lives of seniors in a meaningful and  (19)   way, by helping them   (20)   their dreams.
