●Buses leave the Railway Station, New York 7:00 a.m. and every half-hour thereafter(此后) until 11:30 p.m. (7 days a week).

  Do you recognize this type of poetry?

  If you said “haiku,” you are not only correct, but you may also be a candidate(参赛者) for our yearly poetry contest(竞赛). We hold it each April in honor of National Poetry Month, and we welcome all types of poems, including haiku, limerick, rhyming and free verse.

  Here’s what you need to know:

  ★The contest is open to ages 5 to 14. Kids must submit(提交) an original poem (that means you must have written it yourself) of any length on any subject. Each child can submit only one poem. Poems can be illustrated(附插图), but that is not required.

★To enter our contest, you need to have an adult ( a parent or teacher) send us your entry. On each entry, the adult should include your name, age and hometown as well as the name and phone number of the adult submitting the entry. A note from the adult giving permission for you to enter the contest is also required. A teacher can give permission for an entire class if parental permission has been got.

★Entries can be e-mailed tokidspost@washpost.com.They can also be sent to KidsPost Poetry Contest, The Washington Post, 1150 15^th St. NW, Washington, D.C.20071. The deadline for entries is 5 p.m. Monday, March 18.

★Winning poems will be published in the April 21 edition of KidsPost. If your poem is published, you will receive a prize package including a KidsPost T-shirt and a poetry book. Winners will be invited to share their poems at a poetry reading at Politics & Prose bookstore in Washington.

    The American newspaper has been around for about three hundred years. In 1721, the printer James Franklin, Benjamin's older brother, started the New England Courant, and that was what we might recognize today as a real newspaper. He filled his paper with stories of adventure, articles on art, on famous people, and on all sorts of political subjects.

      Three centuries after the appearance of Franklin's Courant, few believe that newspapers in their present printed form will remain alive for long. Newspaper companies are losing advertisers, readers, market value, and in some cases, their sense of purpose at a speed that would not have been imaginable just several years ago. The chief editor(主编) of the Times said recently, “At places where they gather, editors ask one another, 'How are you?', as if they have just come out of the hospital or a lost law case.” An article about the newspaper appeared on the website of the Guandian, under the headline “NOT DEAD YET.”

       Perhaps not, but the rise of the Internet, which has made the daily newspaper look slow and out of step with the world, has brought about a real sense of death. Some American newspapers have lost 42% of their market value in the past three years. The New York Times Company has seen its stock(股票) drop by 54% since the end of 2004, with much of the loss coming in the past year. A manager at Deutsche Bank suggested that stock-holders sell off their Times stock. The Washington Post Company has prevented the trouble only by changing part of its business to education; its testing and test-preparation service now brings in at least half the company's income.

Bicycle Tour(旅行) and Race(比赛)

A bike tour and race will be held on August 26 and 27(Sat. & Sun.) at 5：30 a.m. The riders will leave Tiananmen Square and ride the first 35 kilometers as a training leg. Then the next 55 kilometers leg, from Yanjiao to Jixian, will be the first competitive(竞争性的) part of the tour. The riders and their bikes will then be taken from Jixian to Changli.
    The second racing leg of the tour will be from Changli to the seaside of Nandaihe, covering a distance of 20 kilometres. Saturday night the riders will stay at Nandaihe for supper. Sunday morning is free for playing at the seaside. At noon all the people and their bikes will be taken back to Beijing.

Rock Climbing
    The Third National Rock Climbing Competition will be held on August 26-27 at the Huairou Mountain Climbing Training Center. More than 10 teams from Beijing, Wuhan, Dalian, Jilin and other places will join in it. A Japanese team will give an exhibition(展出) climbing free for audience(观众).

    York shire Water Sports opens 7 days a week for your convenience and offers tons of water fun for the whole family．Jet ski activities last 30 minutes or 1 hour and can make stops along the way．You must be at least 14 years of age to ride alone and can be as young as 3 to ride along with an adult．Everybody is required to wear a life jacket and a license is required to operate the jet ski．Bathing suits and shorts are recommended．
