              I remember my first home was a small apartment on the second floor with a lovely and spacious balcony(阳台). When my mom was busy in the kitchen she let me stay on the balcony watching the kids playing in the street. On that balcony I played sometimes with my elder sister, Maria. She was seven years old and when my mom was absent she was like a mother to me. The balcony was a great hobby place for my father. After his work he used to grow carnations (康乃馨) in flower boxes. His carnations were red, pink and white, and everyone appreciated them for their beauty.

              He took care of them with so much love and devotion. He dealt carefully with his flowers like a mother taking care of her baby. Many times I sat on the floor of the balcony for hours observing him and his lovely flowers with patience. He was always doing something on that balcony. He was watering them every day, cleaning the balcony floor, changing the potting soil and when the stems (茎) were thick, strong and high enough, he started his improvement operation like a doctor.

              My dad took a tiny knife and with his left hand he held the stem of the carnation and measured the height. Then he made a small mark on the stem with his finger. Afterwards he made a sharp cut with the knife, just enough to fit in a grain of barley (插穗的芽). Then he bandaged the stem with a small bandage. His job was then to water the plants and to take care of them. “No one should touch them”, he said to mom. Every day, when he came home from work he went straight to the balcony.

              Mom used to tell us: “Do not touch daddy’s flowers.” For us it was a fascinating experience to watch how the small stems were growing and making flowers. When the carnations had grown big enough, my dad enjoyed watching them every day. We the kids did too.

              阅读下面材料,然后按要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。

              One day a nice old man found a cocoon (茧) of a butterfly(蝴蝶). He took it home.A few days later, a small opening appeared; he sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole.

              Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no further. Then the man decided to help the butterfly, so he took a pair of scissors and cut off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then appeared easily.

              But it had a swollen body and small, fragile wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would be smaller in time. Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling (慢慢爬行) around with a swollen body and fragile wings. It never was able to fly.

              The man did not understand that the limited cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were Nature’s way of forcing fluid (液体) from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.

              阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

              Many years ago, some friends and I were invited to attend a dinner party hosted by Mr. Monk. Everybody knew that Mrs. Monk was really good at cooking and she wrote many books teaching people how to cook delicious food in a very simple way. Thus, all of us had high expectations for the dinner, wondering what this great cook would cook to surprise us.

              Finally the day came. Everybody showed up at Monk’s house on time. After some tea and talk, the hostess served a meal with a very delicious mushroom sauce. The sauce smelt very good and tasted delicious. We all ate a lot, far more than what we would eat on usual days.

              After the meal, there was a small amount of food left over. The meal was so delicious that everybody thought it would be a pity to just throw the leftovers away. However, if they were put into the refrigerator and heated up again, they would

              lose their freshness. We were all at a loss as to how to deal with the leftovers properly.

              Finally, the hostess Mrs. Monk decided to allow her pregnant cat to enjoy the treat as well as the guests. The guests all felt it was a great idea as it would not only avoid food waste but also show the cat that it was a member of the family.

              The sauce was the highlight (最有意思的部分) of the evening’s topic of conversation, everyone commented on how delicious it was, and the hostess accepted all the praise happily. One of the guests, Mr. Black, who happened to be a botanical (植物的) expert, mentioned that toadstools (毒蕈) were much like mushrooms

              except that they were poisonous, and how funny it would be if such a delicious meal were made from that instead.

              注意:1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;

              2.应使用5个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词语;

              3.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;

              4.续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。

              Paragraph 1:

              Just after what Mr. Black said, the pet cat started crying, moving on the floor in pain, andscratching (抓挠) its stomach. _________________________________________

              _________________________________________

              Paragraph 2:

              As soon as we got back from the hospital, the cat gave birth to four baby cats.________________________________________________________
