              Healthy Snacks for College Student

A busy schedule and a tight budget don’t mean you have to survive on junk food while in college.    36    You can bring them easily with you as you rush between classes. Focus your snack choices on simple ingredients that take only minutes to prepare.    37

              Sandwiches

Make a sandwich when you need something to eat. Use whole grain bread.   38    Slices of meat and low-fat cheese are also healthy choices. Include vegetables for both the nutrient and fiber. Lettuce, tomatoes and green peppers are just a few options.

              Fruits and Vegetables

Slice vegetables ahead of time and keep them in small plastic bags.    39    Celery, carrots and broccoli taste good. Include a small container of hummus(鹰嘴豆泥)in the bags if you don’t like to eat your vegetables plain. Both whole and sliced fruits are a healthy snack when you need something sweeter.

              Warm Snacks

A warm snack is a welcome addition to a late-night study session. Warm a pita(口袋饼)round in the microwave for 20 to 30 seconds. Add any other vegetables that you like to the pita. Baked potatoes are another cheap and healthy option for snacking. For a sweeter snack, cut an apple in half and remove the core and seeds. Top with one teaspoon of brown sugar.    40    Let the apple cool for an additional five minutes before eating it.

              A. If you want to pack apple slices, use a teaspoon of lemon juice.

              B. Top the pita with cream cheese and tomato slices.

              C. Fill the sandwich with peanut butter.

              D. Warm it in the microwave for five minutes.

              E. Thus snack preparation doesn’t cut into the time you need for study.

              F. Many healthy snacks are low-cost and what’s more, they’re portable(便携的)

              G. This ensure that you can grab them quickly when hunger strikes.

              Selfie

Social media and the mobile web have given rise to a strange phenomenon called the selfie. It refers to a picture of yourself, usually shared on any social networking website.

                (1)   Some selfies are extreme close-ups, and others show part of an arm held straight outward. A few of them even feature the subject standing in front of a bathroom mirror.

Everyone takes selfies, but the younger crowd seems to be especially involved in the trend. Young people are relatively heavier digital users. They are interested in staying connected to their friends.   (2)

There are also kinds of psychological factors driving people to take a selfie and upload it to a social networking site.   (3)   A quick and easy way to attract otherˈs attention is to get “likes” and comments from friends. Secondly, itˈs human nature to show off your own great achievements. When you feel good about yourself or look good, itˈs far too easy to take out your phone and document it all through one or several selfies.   (4)   Thatˈs right. Sometimes people are bored at work, bored at school, bored at home and even bored on the toilet. Last but not least, social media is about being social! If that means uploading as many selfies as possible, then so be it. Itˈs fun, and itˈs a cool way to sort of document your own life.

Finally, there are things to be mindful of when youˈre posting. Itˈs easy to think youˈre sharing a photo with a few people.   (5)   So donˈt post anything online, selfie especially.

              (1)

__  (1)  __ When a starving man gets a meal, he begins to think about an overcoat; when an executive gets a new sports car, visions of country clubs and pleasure beats dance into view.

The many wants of mankind might be regarded as making up several levels.__  (2)  __.

The first and most basic level of wants involves food.Once this want is satisfied, a second level of wants appears:clothing and some sort of shelter. By the end of World War Ⅱthese wants were satisfied for a great majority of Americans.__  (3)  __It included such items as automobiles and new houses.

By 1957 or 1958 this third level of wants was fairly well satisfied. Then, in the late 1950s a fourth level of wants appeared: the “life-enriching” level. While the other levels involve physical satisfaction-the feeding, comfort, safety, and transportation of the human body-this level stresses mental needs for recognition, achievement and happiness. It includes a variety of goods and services, many of which could be called “luxury” items. Among them are vacation trips, the best medical care, and entertainment. __  (4)  __

On this level, a greater percentage of consumer spending goes to services, while on the first three levels more is spent on goods. Will consumers raise their sights to a fifth level of wants as their income increases, or will they continue to demand luxuries and personal services on the fourth level?

A fifth level probably would involve wants that can be achieved best by community action. Consumers may be spending more on taxes to pay for government action against disease, ignorance, crime and prejudice. __  (5)  __In this way, we can enjoy more fully the good things on the first four levels.

As most of us know, talking and listening don’t go smoothly every time. Will parents take you seriously, believe what you say, listen to and respect your opinions?  (1)   But some of what happens depends on you, too. Since communication is a two-way street, the way you talk can influence how well a parent listens and understands you. So here are some guidelines to consider when talking to parents:

˜Be clear and direct. Be as clear as you can about what you think, feel, and want.  (2)   They can listen better or be more helpful if they understand what you mean and what’s really going on.

˜Be honest. If you’re always honest, a parent will be likely to believe what you say. If you sometimes hide the truth or add too much drama, parents will have a harder time believing what you tell them. If you lie, they’ll find it hard to trust you.

˜Try to understand their point of view. If you have a disagreement, can you see your parents’ side?  (3)   Telling parents you understand their views and feelings helps them be willing to see yours, too.

˜Try not to argue or complain. Using a tone that’s friendly and respectful makes it more likely parents will listen and take what you say seriously.  (4)   If you think your emotions might get the better of you, do something to blow off steam before talking: Go for a run. Cry.  (5)   Do whatever it takes to sound calm when you need to.

              (1) A. Hit your pillow.
              B. If you can, say so.
              C. A lot depends on your parent.
              D. Think twice before you make a decision.
              E. Your parents won’t always see things your way.
              F. Give details that can help parents understand your situation.
              G. Of course, this is hard for any of us when we’re feeling heated about something.
