              Buy One Give One
Buy One Give One (B1G1)is a Singapore-based business and non-profit organization with a job to create a world full of giving. We help businesses around the world give back in meaningful ways so that they can create measurable and long-lasting influence. Since 2007,we have worked with more than 1,600businesses creating more than 88million giving activities.
Our business allows consumers, who may feel disconnected from the problems of the developing world,to become involved in social problems while still purchasing for themselves. For example, shoe brands like TOMS promise to donate one pair of shoes for every pair purchased. Soapbox gives soap to a needy child with every purchase. Watch company WeWood plants a tree every time you buy a watch. They have helped socially-conscious consumers purchase products and feel good about providing help to others.See what some of our members say about being a part of B1G1.
              *Karen Ormerod
Every product purchased at our store influences the lives of disadvantaged people in the world. I had never imagined I would be operating a business that could change people's lives. We are making a real difference by just doing what we normally do. It is a wonderful experience.
              *Ben Baker

We have already made 160,000giving activities through B1G1. Giving has become a necessary part of our everyday business. It's absolutely brilliant.
B1G1focuses on the influence of giving on people's lives rather than simply the amounts donated. Our programs stress giving habitually in order to create growing influence around the world. When you join the B1G1giving program, you create your own unique giving stories.

Jumping off random cliffs(悬崖) into the sea is not clever. However,as a sport, coasteering uses local experts to help groups travel around the coast so they can then jump safely and have a lot of fun in the process. But coasteering is also so much more than cliff jumping.
A usual day's coasteering will involve swimming, climbing, scrambling(攀岩) and cliff jumping. All trips begin with a safety brief and equipment check. You will be equipped with a helmet, wetsuit and life vest. You will need to wear some old sneakers you don't mind getting wet.
From here it could be a short swim to the first jump site.Following an instructor, you swim through rock pools, around rough rocks and right up to the next jump spot.A brief climb and you'll be standing on the edge wondering," Why the hell did I agree to this?"Then, and to the yell of your friends, you're leaping in,with a smile that's guaranteed to last the rest of the day.
Coasteering is certainly more than cliff jumping. If ever a sport could claim to be confidence building, this is it.And it's also a perfect activity for groups of friends or for adventurous families who want to explore the coast. Many companies offer daily trips,so even if you are on your own or a couple you can join in with a large group.Companies use trained guides with much knowledge of local tides and weather conditions. These people lead the show and are qualified lifesavers as well.
Coasteering is already popular around the UK.At least now you won't have to ask"What is coasteering?"if someone you know gives it a go.

              A. A daily sightseeing trip
              B. A non-expert guided diving

              D. A group activity of climbing

              B. Developing independence

              D. Enriching lifesaving experience

              (4) What is the author's purpose in writing the text? ______

The film stars out as a normal day at a typical American high school.Friends chat in the dining room and boys play football. But there's big surprise when the movie ends with two students going crazy in the school-shooting and killing people.
This is Elephant. It stars real school kids.American director Gus Van Sant had no ready-made lines. The student actors made up their own dialogue, with Van Sant asking them to base their characters on their own lives.
Although it may not sound very high quality, the film won the Palmed'Or (金棕奖) for Best Film and the award for Best Director at the Cannes film festival.
The film is based on the shootings at a high school in the US,where two boys killed 13 people and then themselves in 1999.
The title of the movie refers to the old expression about a problem that's as hard to ignore as an elephant in the house.
The film takes a close look at a few hours in the lives of the victims and the killers. It shows how high school is a different experience for everyone---fun and friendly,or hard and lonely.
In many ways, the two boys, who carry out the shooting, act like ordinary kids. They joke around with one boy's mother as she serves them cakes and play the piano.
But there're hints of the anger they feel inside. One of the boys is bullied (欺负) at school. The other plays violent video games. But Van Sant isn't blaming their killings on either bullying or violent games. In fact, the film doesn't offer any reason for why school violence happens.
"I didn't want to explain anything. It's up to the audience to draw its own conclusions,"said the 51-year-old director.

              (1) The lines of the film were ______ .
              A. given by the director
              B. created by student actors
              C. thought out by the director during the acting
              D. carefully designed by professional people
              (2) The film doesn't tell why school shootings happen ______ .
              A. so as to leave room for the audience to think and judge
              B. because life itself is the problem maker
              C. because the mental problems of students are hard to explain
              D. but there are some hints of the reasons
              (3) The film is named Elephant because ______ .
              A. an elephant is always gentle and never causes trouble
              B. an elephant is a symbol of big problems in American schools
              C. elephant is used to suggest that the school crime is a big problem
              D. the two boys liked elephants when alive
              (4) What's the passage mainly about? ______
              A. It shows American school life.
              B. It introduces the film Elephant.
              C. It tells people to be careful while in peace.
              D. It reports a school killing in a US school.

              Eames House

In the 1940s, with a wave of American soldiers' heading home from World War II, the magazine Arts & Architecture hoped to drum up interest in a new form of mass housing that was inexpensive and easy to construct from existing materials. The magazine approached designers and architects like Richard Neutra, Eero Saarinen, and Charles and Ray Eames to come up with plans for modern houses, and the magazine would publish them.

The idea was that the blueprints would vary according to a family's individual needs. Charles and Ray Eames chose to design for their own situation — a working couple that needed a house and space for working, but had no children at home. The result was Case Study House No. 8 in Pacific Palisades, Calif., where the Eameses made their home.

The family has stayed in the house and it is home to the Eames Office, which promotes the continuation of both Charles's and Ray's ideas. The outside of the house and studio has been open to self-guided tours for years. Not so the inside, which is filled with Eames-designed artwork and furniture.
