In modern times, Liverpool is often thought of as the home of The Beatles. In the past, Liverpool made a great contribution to the economic development of the British Empire, which, in the early 20th century, covered a quarter of the earth’s land surface and population.
Liverpool grew from a small fishing village into a financial center that helped rule the British Empire in part because of its important role in the transatlantic(跨大西洋的)slave trade.
Here is a selection of things to do while visiting:FRIDAY
5:45 p.m. —Visit the Roman Catholic Church to take part in the choir (唱诗班) during the evening service. The round church, designed by Frederick Gibberd and completed in 1967, has a unique spire (尖顶)just like a crown.
7 p.m. —Walk down Bold Street for an evening meal. Find a restaurant serving Scouse, a traditional Liverpudlian meat stew with vegetables.
                   SATURDAY
2 p.m. —Visit the International Slavery Museum on the historic Albert Dock to learn about the part Liverpool played in the slave trade. Tour the Merseyside Maritime Museum for research on the history of the port.
4 p.m. —Tour Tate Liverpool, also on the Albert Dock, to see contemporary and modern art.
6 p.m. —Walk to nearby Canada Boulevard and view the early 20th century Three Graces: the Port of Liverpool Building, the Cunard Building and the Royal Liver Building. These historic structures comprise part of the Liverpool World Heritage site, which recognizes the contribution Liverpool made to the creation of the British Empire and maritime (海上的) commercial culture.
                   SUNDAY
9 a.m. —Eat breakfast at Puccinos on Mathew Street, and then wander along the street to view the site of the Cavern Club where The Beatles got their start.
2 p.m. —Visit the Walker Art Gallery to see the full-length portrait of Henry VIII devoted to the school of Holbein and the 19th-century history painting "Death of Nelson" by American-born artist Benjamin West.

When to go: The Magic Kingdom, which was opened in 1971, was the first theme park at Walt Disney World. All Disney World theme parks are open 365 days a year, although opening and closing time for each park changes from day to day. If you plan to make a trip to Magic Kingdom without kids, try to visit on a school day to avoid the largest crowds. If you need to visit during a school vacation, try at least to avoid the week between Christmas and New Year and the Fourth of July.

If you are not staying at a Disney World hotel, avoid visiting the Magic Kingdom on its Extra Magic Hours days, as Disney’s hotel guests get into the park early on those days, and visitors who arrive at the Magic Kingdom’s normal opening time have to wait for a long time.

Before you go: Buy your Walt Disney World tickets online at Disney World’s website. For advice on picking the right ticket, see our guide to Disney World tickets.

People who like travelling have their reasons. They believe that travelling can help them expand their field of view, especially in the geographical and historical sense. They also think that touring will give them more chances to enjoy different kinds of food and experience newthings that would never be brought by other activities. But those who dislike travelling also have some reasons.

Travelling, in my opinion, does more good than harm. Most importantly,it broadens(使扩大)our mind. We can get in touch with other civilizations(文明), cultures, customs and ideas.

Through history, most people travelled because of necessity(必要性)-not for pleasure. People travelled just in order to remain alive. They searched for food to eat or places to live in. They sometimes ran away from enemies. This is not to say that no one ever travelled just for fun of it. In ancient times, for example, rich Romans travelled all the ways to Greece to take part in the Olympic Games, and festivals. Of course, some people decided to travel just out of curiosity(好奇心).They wanted to find out what it looked like beyond the horizon(地平线). Also business travel has been going on for centuries. Traders could not only make money but also learn to speak several languages and be introduced to different cultures.

So, travelling does enrich our mind and draw new ideas to us. There is no doubt that we can get much from it.

New Zealand is one of the most famous tourism destinations in the world. Travelers traveling to New Zealand need to consider the following things:

              Bookings

Since most of the activities are done in a group like arranging hotels and meals, it is important that people travel as a group. They can enjoy special offers and discounts from the travel agencies, which will save them a lot of money. But individual travelers can’t enjoy those things. Travelers should also select their dates of starting and book their travels ahead of time.

              Seasons

Travelers should also find out the season that New Zealand is now experiencing. This will help them carry the right clothing for the given season during their travels. Travelers traveling during summer should carry light clothes and their swimming suits if they are to enjoy the sunny beaches in New Zealand. But those traveling in winter should carry heavy clothing including hats and boots.

              The rental (租赁)

Travel agencies have rental houses, bikes and motorcycles for tourists wishing to enjoy these services. For travelers wishing to get car rental, they must have driving licenses and must be allowed by the New Zealand government.

              The culture

People traveling to the country are also encouraged to learn the culture of the people of New Zealand. This will enable them to be freely accepted into the country by the locals since they will be doing many things that they will consider acceptable. Learning the local language and the culture will help the tourist enjoy his New Zealand visit.

World travel has moved on to a new level as new websites spring up to enable travelers to plan their trips online. Virtual tourism is the latest name of the game and although relatively new, has seen some tourism websites grow to host over one-million users.
Typically, this development features a website that contains the answers to almost any tourism question. Tips and information are not provided by a single source, such as the website host, but rather from travelers themselves --- often in the thousands. This has proven to be exceptionally beneficial for would-be travelers who are seeking information on questions such as where to find the best museum or beach; whether it is better to tour Brussels with a bicycle or on foot; and which exchange rate bureaus are available in Italy. Questions about food and restaurants; tourist spots; safety; accommodation; and others are all answered. In addition, posted tips promote better preparation, such as what to pack when heading for Sicily(西西里岛).
Apart from the useful tips, visual images and virtual tours have also been made available. If you’d like to visit the Eiffel Tower, it’s a good idea to view the surrounding areas; to pick a safer train route; or to know that it’s very close to the Seine River and that a walk along it would make the experience much better.

Virtual tours havesprung up globally. In South Africa, John Gore established the Virtual Tour Guide in November last year. On his blog, Gore was quoted a saying,  “The world is panoramic(全景的).” “ˈWe are able to turn our heads and look in all directions and get a feel for where we are, but the typical photograph cannot show or describe that experience completely.” However, there is an answer --- technology makes it possible to share the world around us in a 360 degree panoramic way, which really makes the viewer feel as though he or she is really there.

              (1) Why is virtual tourism more and more popular?
              A. Online games are more and more attractive.
              B. Many new websites appear and develop fast.
              C. More and more people want to travel abroad.
              D. It helps travelers save as much money as possible.

              (2) From the second paragraph we know ________.

              A. we can solve any problem on websites
              B. websites offer all the tips and information
              C. we can get all our questions answered online
              D. we can get many tips about tourism on websites

              (3) What does the underlined word “sprung up” most probably mean?
              A. appeared.        B. moved.
              C. competed.            D. reduced.

              (4) What makes us see the world in a panoramic way?
              A. Information. B. Photograph.
              C. Technology. D. Virtual images.

              Washington Sightseeing Guide

White House-Public tours of the White House have been offered since Thomas Jefferson

was president, but you can't just drop in. Visits to the White House are in high demand, and

you must make your request through your member of Congress(国会)up to six months, and

no fewer than 21 days, before your visit. Be sure to check the White House tour-info Web site

to make sure about the personal identification you'll need. And before the day of your visit,

call 202-456-7041 to confirm the tour schedule.

Lincoln's Cottage-Lincoln's Cottage, the hilltop home where President Lincoln lived during part of the Civil War, is simply furnished but features lighting effects and actors' recordings that reveal Lincoln's thoughts on slavery and the war. "In the library you can actually see the ghost lines of where the library shelves would have been," says cottage director Erin Carlson Mast. "We haven't re-created the bookshelves because that was such an amazing moment of discovery for us that we wanted to preserve that so people can have that moment of discovery themselves. "

Library of Congress-The Library of Congress is housed in three buildings: the Thomas Jefferson Building, James Madison Memorial Building and the John Adams Building. Although trying to see all of it in one day is possible, it's probably best to do a little thinking ahead and figure out which areas you'd really like to explore (i. e. when your feet start to hurt, you won't feel so bad about not catching everything). The most popular visitor destination is the Thomas Jefferson Building, but there are things worth seeing-murals(壁画) , sculptures, performances-elsewhere in the complex.

              (2) In Lincoln's Cottage, you can              .
