Big cities and small historic towns top the list of most popular places to visit in the United States, according to the votes of the travel site, TripAdvisor. Here’s a look at TripAdvisor’s Top 5 most popular travel destinations in America!

              1,New York City

More than 50 million people visit New York City every year. The five boroughs – or districts  of New York have some of the most easily recognized attractions in the world. Visitors on a budget can take a free boat from Manhattan to Staten Island for a great view of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline.

              2, Chicago, Illinois

America’s third-largest city offers world-class museums, sporting events and iconic architecture – including Willis Tower, America’s tallest building. The Midwest city is also known for comedy. The Second City theater is where many famous comedians get their start.

              3,Charleston, South Carolina

The coastal city has a very rich history. The Civil War began at its waterfront, at Fort Sumter, which visitors can explore. But present-day Charleston has a lot to offer, too. Conde Nast Traveler voted it the number one U.S. city, for its beautiful architecture, food, and friendly people.

              4, Las Vegas, Nevada

The desert city of Las Vegas is known around the world for its casinos and bright lights. Visitors stay at world-class hotels, eat at top chefs’ restaurants, and usually see a wonderful show or concert.

              5, Seattle, Washington

Visitors to the West Coast city of Seattle will find the iconic Space Needle, the world’s first Starbucks, and Pike Place Market, one of the oldest and most famous farmers markets in the country. The Space Needle was built in 1962 for the World’s Fair. Riding up to the top provides views of the nearby mountains.

Liverpool grew from a small fishing village into a financial center that helped rule the British Empire in part because of its important role in the transatlantic(跨大西洋的)slave trade.

These historic structures comprise part of the Liverpool World Heritage site, which recognizes the contribution Liverpool made to the creation of the British Empire and maritime (海上的) commercial culture.
                   SUNDAY
9 a.m. —Eat breakfast at Puccinos on Mathew Street, and then wander along the street to view the site of the Cavern Club where The Beatles got their start.

People who like travelling have their reasons. They believe that travelling can help them expand their field of view, especially in the geographical and historical sense. They also think that touring will give them more chances to enjoy different kinds of food and experience newthings that would never be brought by other activities. But those who dislike travelling also have some reasons.

Travelling, in my opinion, does more good than harm. Most importantly,it broadens(使扩大)our mind. We can get in touch with other civilizations(文明), cultures, customs and ideas.

Through history, most people travelled because of necessity(必要性)-not for pleasure. People travelled just in order to remain alive. They searched for food to eat or places to live in. They sometimes ran away from enemies. This is not to say that no one ever travelled just for fun of it. In ancient times, for example, rich Romans travelled all the ways to Greece to take part in the Olympic Games, and festivals. Of course, some people decided to travel just out of curiosity(好奇心).They wanted to find out what it looked like beyond the horizon(地平线). Also business travel has been going on for centuries. Traders could not only make money but also learn to speak several languages and be introduced to different cultures.

So, travelling does enrich our mind and draw new ideas to us. There is no doubt that we can get much from it.

              (2) According to the passage,in the past most people travelled .

              C. to get experiences D. to make a living
              (3) How many reasons for travelling are mentioned in Paragraph 3?
              A. Three. B. Four. C. Five. D. Six.
              (4) What’s the main idea of this passage?
              A. Different kinds of travelling.
              B. Travelling enriches our mind.
              C. Ways to enjoy yourself while travelling.
              D. The advantages and disadvantages of travelling.

Is there really a place that you have a strong desire to visit, whatever the cost? If so, you’re in my shoes. The following places are most probably your best choices.

              Milford Sound

It’s one of New Zealand’s largest fjords(海峡). Tourists will go boating along a river that moves into small lakes. It is a better choice for hiking lovers who can enjoy some of the most beautiful scenes in the world. Adventurers can feel like explorers who have stepped into a hidden world. The natural beauty here is enough to make one realize the true magnificence of our world.

              The Rainbow Mountains

These geographic wonders look as if they were painted with a big paintbrush. The bright colors stand in big contrast to the near greenery. As wild as it is, these mountains are a part of our world. One can find them in China’s Danxia Landform Geological Park. The colors do exist in the real world. You can see the natural beauty of these mountains there.

              Bora

This Polynesian place offers one the chance to live like a native Polynesian. The clear open sky and the calm waters offer one the unique opportunity to observe different sea life with little difficulty.

              Galapagos Islands

The Islands consist of 13 volcanic islands and six smaller islands. Although known for Darwin’s visit, they’re more attractive than one might imagine. There are 900 species of animals on these islands. 200 of these species are special to the Galapagos which attract more travelers to this place.

              Lake Bed

Lake Bed is a rich green in the summer and becomes a frozen beauty in winter. If you want to live out your own real life, Lake Bed is a good choice. Lake Bed rests high in the Alps of Slovenia, where the air is clear. Many tourists will go to this location for boating to be away from the hot weather or watching the snow.

There is no better way to enjoy Scottish traditions than going fishing and tasting a little whisky(威士忌)at a quiet place like the Inverlochy Castle. When Queen Victoria visited the castle in 1873 she wrote in her diary,"I never saw a lovelier spot."And she didnˈt even go fishing.

Scotland is not easily defined(定义).In certain moments, this quiet land of lakes and grasses and mountains changes before your very eyes. When evening gently sweeps the hillside into orange light, the rivers, teeming with fish, can turn into streams of gold.As you settle down with just a fishing pole and a basket on the hank of River Orchy, near the Inverlochy castle, any frustration(烦恼)will float away as gently as the circling water.Itˈs just you and purple, pink, white flowers, seeking a perfect harmony. If you are a new comer to fishing, learning the basics from a fishing guide may leave you with a lifetimeˈs fun.For many, fishing is more than a sport;it is an art.
